Toby’s American Clown Museum and School<br />

A museum and gift shop dedicated to the art of clowning. Affiliated<br />

with Toby’s Clown School, where future clowns learn makeup,<br />

wardrobe, pocket magic and how to make people laugh. Admission<br />

is free. Hours vary, so call ahead.<br />

Archbold Biological Station<br />

Established in 1941, Archbold Biological Station<br />

is a renowned center for ecological research,<br />

conservation and education. The public can visit<br />

the Frances Archbold Hufty Learning Center, a<br />

model of “green” building architecture. On Archbold’s<br />

self-guided tours, learn about native plants,<br />

hike through the intriguing scrub landscape, and<br />

gain a fascinating insight into the people, places<br />

and stories of Archbold. Public seminars and<br />

specials events are listed online. Admission is free,<br />

but a $5 per visitor donation is suggested. Groups<br />

can book guided tours for a fee. A 2-3 hour swamp<br />

buggy eco-tour is available at the MacArthur<br />

Agro-ecology Research Center, a working cattle<br />

ranch dedicated to ecological research. Public<br />

Wet Dogs Brewing<br />

Highlands County's first brewpub offers a wide<br />

variety of craft beer, wine, seltzers, coffee, kombucha<br />

and craft sodas, but that's not all! Located<br />

in the Journal Plaza beside Morty & Edna's Craft<br />

Kitchen, Wet Dogs has merged lake life with an<br />

Irish pub, where you'll find live entertainment,<br />

open mic nights, trivia, steel tip darts and table<br />

games. The brewery operation's unique five barrel<br />

system is in the same room with you so you may<br />

find yourself stirring the mash. But if you're not<br />

interested in brewing, it's OK; maybe you can sing<br />

tours are $15 per person, reservations required.<br />

or play an instrument - if you're good enough you<br />

could win a beer on the house! The venue has a<br />

120-inch screen for special events and hosts community<br />

nights where 10% of sales are donated to<br />

selected community charities. When the weather<br />

is nice (it's <strong>Florida</strong>!), they'll roll up the garage door<br />

and you can relax on the paver patio or in the Journal's<br />

park area that features a weekly farmer's<br />

market and movie night on the lawn.<br />
