Letter from the VicarageI had a conversation once about whichwas the more important Christian festival –Christmas or Easter, and we concluded thatit was a difficult question! Easter is probablyassociated in most people’s minds with eggs,chicks, bunnies and lots of chocolate, and it’swonderful to be able to celebrate together.For Christians, that joy comes because ofwhat happened on the dark and terribleFriday when Jesus died. The good news ofEaster is that out of death comes new life;when everything seems hopeless, and allis lost, new hope can come. That is whatwe remember, year by year in the Church’scalendar: the terrible events of Good Fridayand Jesus’ death, the desolation of EasterSaturday, and the glorious, wonderful joyof Jesus’ resurrection on Easter morning. Moredetails of our services for Holy Week andEaster services are on the Churches TogetherEaster page, along with those of the othervillage churches.Refresh Café continues to meet in St Mary’seach Friday morning, including duringthe school holidays, for babies, toddlersand their grown-ups. Messy Church willbe meeting on Good Friday morning at StMary’s, and our weekly Messy Gatherings onSunday afternoons.Other events coming up: we’re lookingforward to a concert on 25th April withSheringham Shantymen, and then 8th Maybrings the 75th anniversary of VE day. Thebells of St Mary’s will be ringing out forpeace at 7pm, in celebration of the peaceand friendships we share today. On Sunday10th May at 10am the morning service at StMary’s will commemorate VE day. We willalso be marking the start of Christian AidWeek, with a call this year to work togetherto help stop the climate crisis.For updates about what’s going on at StMary’s or St Etheldreda’s in Reach, pleasesee our Facebook pages. We are now inour 24th year and are looking forward tothe next visit to France, which is planned forthe August Bank Holiday weekend, 28-31August.This is always an enjoyable visit and we havea few spaces available this year. It is suitablefor all ages, and is a particularly goodopportunity for anyone who would like topractise their French!We stay with local residents in Lizy orsurrounding villages, some time is spentwith our hosts and some with the wholeparty. It’s a great opportunity to see life ina small French town and experience Frenchhospitality.The cost for the weekend is £150 for adultsand £75 for children, this covers the costof the coach travel and entertainment iscovered by our French hosts.
