Itching to Work on Your Home? Don’t Forget Your Building Permit!
This season finds us in a most unusual situation,
negotiating a pandemic that has affected our nation
and our community. If you’re at home and tempted
to work on any major home improvement projects
while you’re there, remember to obtain your proper
building permit.
The Village enforces the provisions of all adopted
codes and issues permits for all building activities
from decks, pools and driveways, to new
commercial, existing commercial and residential
buildings. The issuance of permits includes the
review of all plans and specifications for Village
code compliance, as well as the inspection of all
phases of construction to assure that building and
fire regulations are being met to protect the safety,
health, and welfare of residents. In addition, the
Building Department, along with the Fire District,
conducts annual business life safety inspections.
The department maintains records of all buildingrelated
issues, as well as responds to questions on
drainage and/or concerns presented by builders,
attorneys, engineers and citizens. Most residential
building permit applications are processed in
approximately one to four weeks, depending on the
volume of applications; commercial and industrial
building permit reviews may take longer depending
on the scope of review. The cost of each permit
varies.
Expectations
Maintaining high quality business relationships
with designers, builders, owners, and tenants
while meeting Village building construction safety
expectations is an important aspect of the Building
