LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Turk J Hematol 2018;35:300-314SCT because early therapy for a possible Demodex infestationwould prevent the progression of GVHD.Keywords: Demodex folliculitis, Acute graft-versus-host disease,Post-transplantationAnahtar Sözcükler: Demodeks follikülit, Akut graft versus hosthastalığı, Nakil sonrasıInformed Consent: Informed consent was received from thepatient.Figure 1. A) Demodex mite; B) Civatte body in the follicularepithelium containing Demodexand lymphocyte exocytosis; C)Civatte body in the epithelium far from the follicle; D) diffusebasal vacuolization in epidermis (periodic acid-schiff staining, magnification 40 x ) (159x119 mm; 72x72 DPI).were eruptions on the cheek, forehead, and jaw regions, which can be distinguished in both acute GVHD and Demodexfolliculitis. However, the development of palmar erythema ofthe upper extremities is not a feature of demodicidosis. Asconfirmed by pathological examination, there were findingsof both acute GVHD (presence of Civatte bodies, lymphocyteexocytosis, diffuse basal vacuolization in the epidermis) anddemodicidosis (presence of Demodex folliculorum). It should not be forgotten that GVHD may be associated withdemodicidosis and Demodex infestation should be rememberedin the differential diagnosis of eruptions in patients withhematological malignancies receiving chemotherapy and afterSCT. For this reason, when the diagnosis of acute GVHD isambiguous, an early skin biopsy has to be done after allogeneicConflict of Interest: The authors of this paper have no conflictsof interest, including specific financial interests, relationships,and/or affiliations relevant to the subject matter or materialsincluded.References1.
