NEWS - BRITISH SHOWJUMPINGEQUITOP BOLESWORTHYoung Horse Championships2019 saw a new home for the ShowJumping Young Horse Championshipswhich moved to the impressiveshowground of Bolesworth Castle.The show primarily acts as a selectiontool for the World Championshipsin Lanaken and results in fiercecompetition. In a change to previousyears, there was no separatecompetition for British bred youngsters,as no matter the country of origin allage groups would compete together.Therefore it was very satisfying for the6 year old champion to be the Britishbred mare Ivory, ridden by MatthewSampson and bred by Castell SportHorses. The grey mare is a daughter ofone of the best show jumpers in theworld – Don VHP Z and was conceivedwhen the son of Diamant de Semillystood in Sussex at Brendon Stud.Ivory’s dam Karen is a daughter of theCarthago son Cartogran.Ivory and Matthew won the 6 year oldChampionship at the Hickstead Derbyand 6 year old final at Wales and Westin the Spring and were the 5 year oldReserve Champions at last year’s BritishYoung Horse Championships as well asqualifying for Lanaken.In a British bred1,2,3, Pippa Funnel took second withBilly Marmite by Billy Mexico and thirdwith the mare Billy Sarafina.Billy Marmite is full brother to BillyDorito, currently winning at fivestar shows with Darragh Kenny. Alsoqualifying for Lanaken as the fourthbest British-bred was James Shorewith the Luidam son, MEC Look At Me,owned and bred by Emerson Tough.The 6 year old consolation final saw aconvincing win for Ben Clark ridingJulian Mincher’s AES registered mareAlvescot Expressive. Alvescot Studcan take great pleasure in knowingthey also bred sire and dam, withtheir stalwart stallion Pouchka III thedamsire.Dan Wright ofWindmill FarmEstate, withBolesworth Managing DirectorNina Barbour, presents MattSampson and Ivory with their award after a great win.The 5 year old final saw Keith Shoreriding his own Mystic Magic into therunners up spot. The Breeders Eliteregistered mare was bred by BettyBrandon out of a daughter of MichaelWhitaker’s old ride Handel and siredby Asterix EZ who was competedinternationally by Robert Whitaker.Her dam is the half sister to the topinternational horse Magic Max and 3star eventer Mystic Million. JoiningMystic Magic in Lanaken will be BillyLambert (Cevin X x Andiano), riddenby Pippa Funnell and owned and bredby The Billy Stud, RSH Innovation(Odermus R x Darco), ridden and bredby Ben Dunning and jointly owned withMark Dyer and Klent Kick On (Warrior xCaretino Glory), ridden by Philip Miller,bred by Brendon Stud and owned byEmma Ziff.The show really promoted BritishBreeding on a number of levels. Astallion parade was organised as oneof the highlights of the Sunday ofthe show, with some of the very bestBritish based jumping stallions paradingin the International Arena. Seriousinternational stars such as Argento, JeT’aime Flamenco and of course Big Starwere among the names attracting thecrowds.Two youngstock auctions were hostedover the week. The first one wasrestricted to offspring of Nina Barbour’slate super sire Ramiro B. The secondone, that took place on the Fridaynight showcased some of the most blueblooded of British jumping bred foalsand was run in conjunction with theAnglo European Studbook. By selectingfoals with real black type pedigrees,demand from buyers was strong. Thetop price of £40,000 was secured fortwo lots. ASK Tinka, a blue blooded,super athletic filly by the legendaryCasall ASK and out of the one and onlyTinka’s Serenade – Billy Twomey’s topride for many years. Plus, Cavalier HF astunning model of a colt by the famousDiamant De Semilly and directly outof top 1.50m performer Remi Cavalleri– a Bronze medallist at the JuniorEuropean Championships.In addition, the Bolesworth teamallowed riders to showcase anyhorses that were for sale by placinga Bolesworth blue disc onto thesaddlecloth of sale horses. With privatetrial facilities available and a leadingvet on site, the scheme really offered agreat opportunity for buyers.WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championships LanakenMatt and Ivory built on their Bolesworth success at the World Championships at Lanaken,qualifying for the 6yo final and finishing in eventual 14th place just one place behindLaura Robinson and Millfield Colette, British bred by Cornet Obolensky, bred by SueJagger. Another British bred who had a great show was Charlotte Taylor’s RenkumOlinthos (Offender x Cobretti), a fully approved stallion with the AES and Breeders Elite.He jumped a double clear in the first round of the World Seven Year Old Championshipridden by Colin Keeling and finished in the top twenty of the consolation final. NEWS2019 FEIEUROPEANCHAMPIONSHIPSThe 2019 European Championshipssaw just one gold medal for a Britishbred horse, but it was also a firstgold medal for one of the youngerBritish studbooks. The Sport PonyStudbook registered Midnight andGeorgia Wilson took the gold medalin the Grade II Freestyle test. Thelovely 10 year old mare is a daughterof the beautiful Weser Ems stallionHilkens Black Delight and was bred byCarrie Passmore. Her dam BroomwichCassandra is by David and SerenaPincus’s Dutch bred small tour stallionCassander. The pair were also part ofthe silver medal winning British team.Another team medallist was in theshow jumping, with the ever consistentHolly Smith and Hearts Destiny whokept the British bred flag flying withtheir huge contribution to the teambronze medal.Another AES registered competitor inthe show jumping was Lizziemary andher regular partner Danielle Waldman(nee Goldstein), but sadly theydidnt managed to carry their recentGlobal Champions Tour form into theEuropeans. So close to a team medalin the dressage was Hawtins Delicatowho would have added a Europeanteam silver medal to his World teambronze but for Charlotte Dujardin’sunfortunate elimination. Carl Hesterhas formed such a great partnershipwith the Diamond Hit son finishingindividually 9th in the Grand PrixSpecial with so much potential headingtowards Tokyo 2020.Sadly the European EventingChampionships were quite adisappointment from a British bredpoint of view. The highest placedhorse registered with a British studbookwas Vittoria Panizzon’s SHB(GB)registered Super Cillious who finished in33rd place.
