UNITED WAY of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley knows to live better we must live united. Every year we
have organizations that give of their time and talent, but some go above and beyond. When we started Project
More, a literacy tutoring program, at Girard Prospect Elementary, we needed a reliable group of volunteers. We
found them at the Girard United Methodist Church. This is the 3rd year they are selflessly giving their time every
day to help the children in Girard read better. Similarly, the YSU Department of Nursing stepped in and played a
major role in our Vision Screening program. For the past three years, they’ve sent hundreds of students to help us
as we screened 2,500 students. Whenever we put a call out for volunteers, one of the first organizations to respond
in a big way is Home Savings Bank. From Young Women’s Mentorship to vision screenings to Report Card
Mentoring to Day of Caring you can find their employees giving their time to help our students and families. Finally,
Coaches Burger Bar owned by the Howletts, whenever we need help they are there. Whether its with a box truck to
deliver Christmas gifts or fundraisers that help us support our programs, Stacy, Patrick, and their employees are
ready to give back to their community.
