Schools Spectacular 2012
After a successful audition DVD was sent to the
panel at The Arts Unit earlier this year, a team of
talented and hardworking dancers have been
selected to be a part of the 2012 Schools
Spectacular at the Entertainment Centre Sydney in
November. The School Spectacular is a showcase of
talented dancers, singers and musicians from across
the state of NSW and has been wowing audiences
for over 30 years. Twelve dedicated dance students
will train for the next 6 months and learn
choreography via YouTube before going to Sydney
for 5 days to join the other dancers in their segment
for rehearsals and four live performances. The show
is televised on the ABC in December and January.
The dancers involved are: Savannah Farley, Hannah
Leung and Oliva Leung from Year 10; Browyn
Henshaw and Camilla Ponte from Year 9; Ebony
Renner and Lily Gibson from Yr 8; and Gemma
Newman and Zarrah Reedy‐Watson from Year 11.
The three remaining dancers will be chosen through
an audition process later this term.
The Lions Club Easter Vacation
Camp.
On Saturday April 7 (Easter Saturday) three
students from Tuncurry Campus, Kai Mantle, Kalsey
Oakley and Jessica Sears, headed off to Camp Elim
for a week long get‐a‐way organised by the Lions
Club.
Jess has written the following article about the
camp.
On the first day of our camp we met lots of people.
Students came from Forster up to Grafton to attend
the camp. All students were in either Year 7 or Year
8. We assembled at Surfside which was a hall where
we would have all of our meals. Our camp leaders
were nice and friendly and as soon as I met them I
knew I was a going to have a great time. Because
there were so many students we were split up into
small groups for our cabins. Kalsey and I were put in
a cabin with three other girls and two leaders. We
[Type text]
all came up with nicknames for each other. My nick
name was Boots.
There were a lot of great activities to do at camp. I
especially enjoyed the giant swing and bush
walking. We were kept very busy. At the end of
each day we would all go to the Lakeside hall where
we would do more games. Some of the leaders
made a slideshow for us. We would watch this
while having cookies and hot cocoa before going to
bed. One night we had a fashion show. The groups
came up with a lot of ideas with my team choosing
a Michael Jackson theme. With a great team effort
we were able to come up with a finished product
within the allocated ten minutes. On the last night
we had a talent show. We all went in it. We had a
great show.
This camp was great and I enjoyed every minute of
it. I would like to thank the Lions Club very much for
providing this opportunity. I would also like to
thank Mrs Davies for inviting me go to the camp.
Finally, I would like to thank Camp Elim and the
leaders for the fun week.
Year 8 Student
Peer Support Program 2012
In week 2 of this term we concluded the Peer
Support Program. From the evaluations completed
by all Year 7 students as well as the Year 9 Peer
Support Buddy Leaders and Buddy Teachers the
program was a success.
Four of our Year 9 leaders have written the
following reports on the program.
From Ben Dilger and Matt Reggers:
Peer Support is a program in which Year 9 Peer
Support Leaders, along with the help of Ms Wilson,
Mrs Lawton, Mrs Horne, Mr Ceccato, Ms Jones, Mrs
St Hill and Mrs Davies help the Year 7 students to
settle into high school. This is done by the leaders
running activities that help their group learn the
values needed through high school and later in life.
In the sessions which happen for six weeks, the
Year 9 Leaders take their group of Year 7 students
through the activities scheduled for that week.
Some of these activities include the ‘silent e game’
