Football
The 2012 Great Lakes College 2012 Football team
proved once again to be a quality side and was able
to reach the fifth round of the CHS Knockout
competition. Given the team’s performance last
year, we were gifted a path with byes for the first
rounds when we came up against Chatham High.
The team intensity was probably not what it should
have been for this match and Chatham were able to
capitalise on this fact. The match was played in
pouring rain and featured six penalty free kicks,
which explains the high 6‐5 score line, fortunately
we were able to steady and emerge victorious in
extra time.
Our next victims were Taree High who had just
conquered Wingham High easily. This game brought
out the best in our team with an excellent display of
structure and players running into space which was
reflected in the 6‐1 score line. All players
contributed to this win with great intensity and
commitment.
We were then scheduled to meet Lambton High in
Newcastle for the next round of the competition.
This was a good match to watch and although we
were defeated, we were by no means disgraced.
The team played good football but were up against
a very well drilled and coached side that play
together as a unit in the Newcastle competition. As
a summary of the game, we did not make a lot of
mistakes but were made to pay by a competent
side when we did.
