It attempts to understand the make up of asociety, or groups within a society as a basis for introducing architectural or nonarchitecturalinterventions that will make significant, sustained long term developmentof that society. S-ECM is not a dark art. It rests on the collection, interpretation andfusing of empirically derived data, either left as numbers and statistics or translatedinto pictograms, 2D and 3D drawings and models, physical and computer generated.Analogue and digital techniques are required for this study.S-ECM Socio-Economic Cultural Mapping; Why bother?This imperceptible virus has us in a 'conflict' situation and poses a persistent andconsistent threat, which must be met with a sustained and cogent response. We see itas a symptom, the opportunity to nudge closer to the disease. Our S-ECM is holistic. Itinvestigates nerve centres of Lagos as a single entity and provides a framework for,and gives credence to the proposals of other outcomes of the entire Lagos 2020+ postCOVID-19 project.Extent of StudyThe I.B.I.L.E. acronym for the 5 administrative centers of Lagos Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu,Lagos (Island) & Epe is the extent of this study.Modus OperandiWe will work consistently, vigorously, with the precision of a foetal surgeon and theunfettered imagination of the Renaissance greats. Our Study Menu is as follows;1.Produce figure ground studies of the urban grain. Look at transportation: forms (road, air sea); connectivity; major & minor stops andinterchanges, donkey, keke, okada, mini bus, microbus, danfo, molue9. Determine and locate recreational, health and education facilities. Public v Privatelyowned. Parks, Clubs, joints, hospital, clinics, schools primary, secondary & tertiary.10. Interrogate and plot religious and quasi-religious places of worship.
