BROWARD COLLEGE
Created by the Florida Legislature in 1959, Broward College
has the second-largest enrollment within the Florida
College System (FCS). The College has more than 63,000
students and 5,000 full-time and part-time faculty and staff
who together represent 150 countries and speak more than
50 languages.
Broward College fulfills its mission each day to provide
high-quality educational programs and services that
are affordable and accessible to a diverse community
of learners by offering first-time college students, nontraditional
students, and career professionals 67 academic
programs in eight career-related pathways. Academic
programs include specialized certificates, two and fouryear
degrees. The College also offers non-degree training,
workforce readiness, and an extensive list of continuing
education curricula across its three campuses, Broward
College Online, and eight specialized centers.
Broward College also offers a wide variety of extracurricular
activities focused on enriching the student experience,
creating socially conscious student awareness, and
developing global student perspectives.
Broward College is well known for the quality of its
programs offered to students locally and in its international
centers and affiliates located in 14 countries across the globe.
The 2020 U.S. News & World Report, the global authority
in education, ranked Broward College as one of the top
Regional Colleges in the South. n April 2019, the College
was recognized as one of the Top 10 community colleges
in the nation by the Aspen Prize for Community College
Excellence. This is the third time the Aspen Institute
has named Broward College a Top 10 institute since the
competition launched in 2011. In 2017, the College was
named a Finalist with Distinction and one of the top three
community colleges in the nation.
Also, in 2019, Broward College received the IIE Andrew
Heiskell Award for Innovation in International Education.
The College received the award under the International
Partnerships category in recognition of its initiative ‘The
Third Way,’ which allows students to stay in their home
country and complete an associate degree with Broward
College before transferring to a college or university in the
U.S. In 2018, Diverse Issues in Higher Education ranked the
College first across the United States for associate degrees
conferred to African-American students and second for
associate degrees conferred to Hispanic students. In that
same year, the Broward College nursing program was
named one of eight winners nationwide for the inaugural
Siemens-Aspen Community College STEM Award by the
Aspen Institute College Excellence Program (CEP) and
the Siemens Foundation. The College was also named one
of the Top Five Training Institutes for the State Officer
Certification Exam (SOCE) in 2018. Broward College
graduates received the highest pass rate of 96 percent in
the state.
