HONOR DESIGNATIONS
GRADUATION HONORS
Honor designations are awarded at the conclusion of a
student’s academic program based upon all coursework
applicable toward the degree or certificate. The designations
will be displayed on the diploma and academic transcript.
A student may graduate with honors in the following
categories:
BACHELOR LEVEL
Summa Cum Laude: Overall GPA of 3.750-4.000
Magna Cum Laude: Overall GPA of 3.500-3.749
Cum Laude: Overall GPA of 3.250-3.499
ASSOCIATE AND CERTIFICATE LEVELS
Highest Honors: Overall GPA of 3.750-4.000
High Honors: Overall GPA of 3.500-3.749
Honors: Overall GPA of 3.250-3.499
PHI THETA KAPPA
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is the official honor society of
two-year colleges (community/junior colleges). While
the Broward College Honors College is an academic
program, PTK is a student organization of international
scope, with more than three million members as of 2015.
Like our Honors College, PTK was founded to encourage
the development and personal growth of outstanding,
committed students and emerging student leaders.
ROBERT “BOB” ELMORE
HONORS COLLEGE
The mission of the Robert “Bob” Elmore Honors College
is to provide an enriched program in a vibrant, active
scholarly community of students, faculty, and staff which:
• stimulates critical thinking and creativity
• challenges the intellect and fosters independent thought
• builds self-confidence and empowerment
• provides opportunity for cultural enrichment
• promotes a global perspective
• enhances career and professional development
The Robert “Bob” Elmore Honors College offers a
distinct academic program and enriched learning
community to over 1,200 students at Broward College.
Students who have completed Honors courses and who
have maintained at least a 3.5 Overall/Honors GPA
receive cords to wear at graduation and are recognized
in the commencement program with the appropriate
designation. Students who have completed 15 Honors
credits, including the IDH2121 course, and have
maintained a 3.5 or above Overall/Honors GPA will
receive an Honors Certificate following graduation.
Members wear the PTK golden monogrammed Honors
stole and tassel at the graduation ceremony and are
recognized in the commencement program with the
appropriate designation.
