English: Applied Learning – English (Semester 2)<br />
What’s it about?<br />
• The English (Applied Learning) course is designed for students who are seeking a career pathway focus on their<br />
studies. Students focus on functional literacy for a range of contexts including TAFE and the workforce<br />
• Examining advertising and the way consumers are ‘positioned’ by a range of commercial and political<br />
influences<br />
• Studying an issue in the media and forming arguments in response to the issue<br />
• Analysing the construction of meaning in film texts<br />
Activities students may engage in:<br />
• Writing short persuasive and creative texts in a variety of forms like letters, email correspondence, personal<br />
reflections, online newsletters, reviews, CVs<br />
• Prepare and deliver oral presentations using multimodal forms of communication<br />
• Create a short film to advertise a product or an event<br />
• Develop research skills, and examine the role of communications in local businesses<br />
• Build literacy skills by improving students’ understanding of grammar through focused exercises<br />
