TRULY STRONG

My father always taught me to follow the

'golden rule'. He communicated through his

kindness and compassion towards others.

In that spirit, we build a stronger community

by listening first. Our opportunity and

responsibility going forward continues to

be to listen and learn from others and

standing up to injustice when it occurs.

Scarlett Nolen, President

From the Nolen Family

We are humbled and inspired by the strength and resilience of our

partners more than ever. We've done an incredible job rallying to the

challenge of the changes in the world. We have witnessed great

leadership and teamwork during this trying time.

The phrase "essential" takes on a new meaning and reinvigorates how

proud we can all be to provide the public health services we perform. Our

company has roots in sanitation and disinfectant services. Eighty years

later, we ind ourselves in a unique position to bring that same peace of

mind to our communities with our offering Truly Sanitized services.

With tremendous gratitude, we thank our partners for continuing

to keep safety the number one priority and being essential to our

communities!

Stay Safe. Follow the Golden Rule!

Letter from the Editor

Hello Truly Nolen Family,

How have you been? I hope you are staying

healthy and safe. You’ve probably heard this

greeting many times from your peers or

employers. It might have been a while since you’ve

seen them in-person since you’re keeping in touch

with them through emails, Zoom, or Cisco.

We are living in a unique time and adapting to the

“new normal” but I hope this issue of the TNT

brings a smile to your face as we recognize, YOU,

our hardworking essential employees.

We want to write stories that you care about and

that you can relate to. We want to give you a

platform to write, express, and share your stories

and ideas.

Remembering

Joe East 16

As COVID-19 continues to impact communities

around the world, people are coming together to

help one another now more than ever. Thank you

for what you’re doing to help our community—and

this ‘thank you’ is not exclusive to this COVID-19

period. I am thanking you for every single day. You

have always been essential.

Seleena Alvarez

Thank you for all you do.

Celebrating our Employees!

Everyone had great things to say and so many reasons

to celebrate all of our Truly team members.

Thank you all for doing what you do every day!

Team 082 from Ed Baker, Manager Branch 082

I would like to show appreciation for my branch 082. We got

hit sooner than most branches with the Covid 19 pandemic,

during this time my team embraced our new Truly Sanitation

program. Within a week of the initial roll out, the team

completed their in house/ield training. The team immediately

started making an impact within our community by servicing

most on a weekly basis and including daily services.

I couldn't be more proud of their lexibility and ownership of

the new program and their commitment to our community!

Jason VanDerZiel

I would like to recognize

Jason VanDerZiel. Jason is

our newest team member

and has been with us about

2 months. I am blown away

with the positive feedback I

am getting from customers on

how much they like Jason.

He took over for a tech who

had been on that route for over 20 years and I expected

some issues, man was I wrong. He has gone above and

beyond with customers to show them that his goal is to add

value to their lives, he is showing it daily through his

customer interactions and the positive feedback customers

have been giving. GREAT job Jason, I appreciate your

dedication to providing the YELLOW STANDARD service.

Sincerely,

Rosanni Nelson

Teams 096 & 057

I would like to share a success story for Branch 096 that

occurred last month in May. We had a large Subterranean

Termite Barrier treatment for $19,900 to complete. After

assessing the scope of the job I felt that it could be completed in

two and a half days with two 2 person teams in different

combinations each day. Each team member assigned to help

had other work scheduled in the afternoon of the third day so

completing this on time was urgent... As the job began we made

good progress the irst day until the afternoon rains began. As

the next day began the weather was working against us from

the get go but the teams persevered with great attitudes

working in the humidity and the on & off rainy weather. On the

third day we were patching the last drill hole by early afternoon

and the job was completed on time despite the weather

challenges. I would like to recognize the following partners for

insuring we could bank almost $20,000 in 2.5 days. From

Branch 096: Ferdinand Marengo, Christian Shatto, Anthony

Muniz, Sebastian Ferreiro, Mike Wicke, and Lynden Turquest;

and from Branch 057: Jamaal Jolly and Luis Domenech.

GREAT JOB GUYS!!!!

Rosanni Nelson started with Truly Nolen as a Termite Tech in

South Florida. Came to branch 057 3 years ago as an AI inspector/

termite tech and is now a PC Tech. He successfully inished the TDP

program. He has recently started with sales and is always looking to

expand his capabilities. Rossani or "Nelson " as his customers know

him, is very tedious in his work as he wants to satisfy his customers

100%. I am very happy to work along side a humble hardworking

inspirational person like Rossani. Also congratulations to Rossani

on buying his irst home this past month.

Harold Baxter

During social distancing and quarantine requirements, Harold

Baxter, along with his wife, two sons, and his daughter, have

spent a lot of extra time reining their backyard. Harold's wife has

been working from home full time, both of his sons are normally

in basketball or football this time of year (in which Harold

coaches most of), and his daughter is normally performing girl

scout activities. However, since the quarantine, the entire family

helps with the back yard garden, especially Kameron, the oldest

son. They created "micro-climates" to be able to grow and

maintain plants in Arizona that would normally not be possible

otherwise. Their garden includes: Mulberry, bananas, papaya,

pineapple, and mango, to name a few. They also grow indoor

houseplants outside thanks to their specialized climate control

setups. Some of the garden features include a ive foot rock

fountain, a Koi pond, morning glorys, and a plethora of exotic

plants! It's beautiful!

Franchise 504 Teams Up with Marked Safe

Andrew Wheelock, Franchise 504 Halifax NS, has teamed up with a

company called Marked Safe. This newly formed company specializes in

dealing with the prevention of the spread of the Coronavirus and has

created a 5-stage operational plan TRULY for Snow small businesses to be able to

execute their business and work safe in the community while putting the

communities mind at ease. Andrew was the irst company to jump on

board with Marked Safe with the idea of creating some resolve with his

customers making them comfortable having Andrew’s team solve their

pest issue while working safely amidst this pandemic. AllNovaScotia, an

online Halifax newspaper, reached out to Andrew to do a piece on the

COVID-19 Operational Safety Plan for his business. This piece aired on the

CBC local network in Halifax and garnered so much great feedback that CBC National picked it up. We want to commend

Andrew and his team on being such great ambassadors of the brand and congratulate him on taking the proper steps to work

safe throughout this challenging time.

Technicians, Team Members Help Carry #TRULYSanitized Message to Newspapers, TV

From the moment the Department of Homeland Security designated on March 19 "exterminators" were essential workers, the

pest control industry as whole realized it had the means at its disposal to ultimately help businesses restore consumer

conidence. In our company's case, the development of #TRULYSanitized, its processes, and its protocols in a quick, safe fashion

helped the PR department get a press release out April 2. When we chose Wednesday April 15 to do a donation of the service to

First Responders, we knew we were asking a lot of our technicians to ask for permission after the service was complete for

photos, which is atypical of how to stage an "event". Despite this, we are proud of the effort so many in our company undertook

on April 15 (and in the days afterwards) to donate the service, sell the service subsequently to a few of those locations, and take

great pictures, which made our job that much easier. Thanks to your efforts, the service was featured in the following:

• Community Impact Newspaper of Keller, Tex.

Companies sharing their satisfaction

with #TRULYSanitized on Social Media.

IG @blackbeandeli

With the current climate not changing anytime soon, companies are quickly

understanding services like #TRULYSanitized will be around for a long

time. Because of this, in addition to the great customer service our team

members provide, customers often share their feelings about our service on

social media. When this happens organically, it can make all the difference

in how a service is perceived. From late-April to the end of May, ive different

companies, including restaurants, schools, and sports facilities, shared with

their followers that they now had peace of mind before re-opening because

they used our service and liked it. We took all ive of those "testimonials"

and shared them across our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn

platforms. From there, our team members who engage in Social Media

began re-sharing these posts and helped continue the conversation with

potential customers. As we head into summer, we will continue to share

these unsolicited endorsements and believe the service will be popular for

the rest of 2020 and beyond. A special thanks to the service ofices that

serviced these ive businesses (Black Bean Deli, Orlando and Winter Park;

Slim's Place, Anna Maria Island; Kids for Kids Academy, Miami; 1928 Cuban

Bistro, Jacksonville; D-Bat Baseball, Keller) for everything you did to make

them want to do a post about Truly Nolen without any prompting.

Stress and Weight Gain During Quarantine

If you’ve found yourself packing on the pounds during quarantine, there may be a

reason behind it. When stress levels are high, your body produces cortisol which

increases appetite hormones and leads to cravings of high-fat and sugary foods. Stress

can also affect your quality of sleep leading to even an even greater disruption of

appetite regulating hormones.

Recognizing that you are eating unhealthy foods in response to stress is the irst step

toward ixing the underlying problem. When you ind yourself reaching for sweets or

comfort foods, consider if you are truly hungry and try replacing food with a healthy

habit like a quick walk, yoga or a glass of water.

Stock your pantry with healthy snacks and leave the sweets off of your next grocery trip.

Need some ideas? Try one of these 150-calorie options.

• 1/2 cup Greek yogurt + 1 tablespoon of dried cranberries

• 1/2 banana + 1 tablespoon of peanut butter

• 1/2 cup cottage cheese + 1/2 cup fruit

• 10 baby carrots + 2 tablespoons of hummus

• 2 hard boiled eggs

Hydration

Join the Water Wise Hydration Challenge

Wellness

As the temperatures start to rise, so does your need to drink plenty of water. Aiming for at

least eight, 8 ounce glasses daily is a good place to start, but a more accurate way to

determine your personal needs is to divide your weight in half to ind the number of

recommended ounces of water you need each day. If you exercise, work in the heat or are

pregnant, your water needs will be higher. Most of the water we consume comes from

liquids we drink, but nearly 20% is found in the foods we eat. Most fruits and vegetables

have high water content, so remember to include up to 5-9 servings of produce daily to

stay healthy and hydrated. Caffeinated beverages like soda and coffee can act as a diuretic,

increasing your risk for dehydration. Consider drinking one cup of water after every

caffeinated beverage consumed. Remember to sip water throughout the day rather than

waiting until you feel thirsty. Try adding a sprig of fresh mint leaves, or slices of fruit to

give your water added lavor.

Be one of the first 100 members to join the Water Wise Hydration Challenge, July 13— August 24

and receive a Truly Nolen water bottle. Track your water intake and stay hydrated throughout the

summer. Visit the Challenges page at MyHealthPark.com/TN to get started.

Ask The Expert Scott Svenheim, ACE

The Heat is On…

Sounds like a song lyric, right?

Undoubtedly, the heat of Summer is upon us, and hopefully along with that, an end to COVID-19 socially

distant separations, so we can all enjoy backyard gatherings, and poolside barbecues again. Not to

mention the summertime critters that have camped out behind the scenes and are eagerly awaiting any

opportunity to spoil our customer's festivities.

The last thing we want is for them to have to deal with a yard overrun by ants, lies, or mosquitoes, and

let's not forget some stinging insects like bees or wasps. According to the National Pest Management

Association, stinging insects send more than a half-million people to the emergency room each year.

While ants, yellow jackets and lies are quickly drawn to most barbecue fare, we all know that mosquitos

are attracted to our customers and us as the main course. Ants and lies are not picky eaters and will try

to snatch up any food. Bees are generally more curious about the sweet stuff, while wasps and yellow

jackets love the smell and taste of meat and anything sugary.

Of course, the contamination factor also plays a role here – ants easily contaminate food, along with

houselies, which are known to carry hundreds of disease-ridden germs. Because insect populations are

at their peak during this time of year, keep in mind that insects are especially active in the second half of

summer when colonies are most likely building up their winter supply of food.

Let's help educate our customers on the practices we know best, like:

- Thoroughly checking the yard for stagnant pools of water, removing any standing

water, which could provide breeding areas for mosquitoes.

- Checking all screen doors and window screens for rips or tears and repair

any holes.

- As the family ilters in and out of the house, make sure everyone is

fully closing the doors behind them.

- Avoid using scented candles or wearing fragrances that easily

attract bees and wasps.

- Keeping food sealed in tight-itting containers, or outside,

in sealed coolers as much as possible.

Ask the Expert

- Monitor for crumbs, spills, and trash on tables -

Clean-up areas afterward.

- Keeping trash containers tightly sealed and away

from the activity areas.

Remembering Joe East 34 years with Truly Nolen

Our company is saddened by the news that Joe East, who started with Truly

Nolen in March 1983, passed away in early-June due to Cancer.

East, who was based out of Branch 092 Sarasota for a majority of his career, was

an exemplary employee for 34 years (he left in 1995 but loved the company so

much he returned in 1998).

Although he spent several years as the Florida Garage Manager, his true expertise

was in technical support and lawn care. Since 2018, he was the company’s

Eastern Technical Support contact.

Several Executive Team members recently shared some of their fondest

memories of Joe.

“Over the last few years, Joe and I worked together on termite damage lawsuits: I

was the corporate representative and Joe was the technical expert and as the

corporate representative, Joe would go to the location, document damage (in

writing and pictures), interview customers, and write a report. Joe and I would

discuss each case before a deposition or mediation. He was always well prepared,

and in turn, so was I. His notes and photos were extensive and told a story about the damage. If Joe felt that we did not do our

job properly, he would recommend taking care of the customer. When he believed we did our part and circumstances beyond our

control were involved, he defended the company with every iber of his being. Joe was an expert in documenting cause and effect

with termite, lawn and rodents. On a personal note, Joe loved to play golf. He and I have played several times over the years and

they were always competitive and fun matches. He will be missed.”

– Chris Maher | VP, Commercial Operations

“I knew Joe close to 20 years. He was one of the irst people to show me how to handle a damage claim. He always wanted to do

what was right for the customer and weighed it against what made sense for Truly Nolen. He always wanted to serve the

customer but never allow the company to be taken advantage of. Joe held a number of positions throughout his 34 years:

whatever we asked him to do, he would igure out how to become an expert in that ield from termites and vehicles to rodent and

lawn. Once he became an expert, he always saw his role to help and teach others to make them and the company better. Joe was

an excellent educator and steward for the company and will be missed!”

– Justin Bellet | Chief Operating Officer

“I was irst acquainted with Joe in the early 1980’s. I was technical director and Joe was a source of information on lawn problems

as well as termite in Florida. Through the years, I used Joe more and more in customer damage issues and in litigation. He

became my “boots in the ground” in Florida for the past 20 years. Joe was always eager to learn and I had great respect for the

expertise he acquired. His inspections in very dificult customer issues were detailed and well-presented. I could not have resolved

many cases in Florida regarding termite damage or lawn damage without these detailed reports. Joe and I became close friends

and I spent some good times with him and his wife Yani on visits to Florida. He also came to Arizona on occasion and we spent

time in the mountains of Southern Arizona. I will miss Joe more than words can express. The greatest compliment Joe paid me

was that he considered me to be his second father. Joe was an incredible asset to Truly Nolen, our customers, and employees.”

Joe East

– Bob Hartley | Board Member

16

Thank you, Joe, for everything you did to help represent Truly Nolen to the best

of your ability each and every day. We will miss you dearly, but you will always

be remembered fondly.
