Letter from the Editor

Hello Truly Nolen Family,

Hope you are well! We are excited to share the

September 2020 issue of the TNT. This issue is all

about taking health and wellness in your own

hands. We continue to live and adapt to the “new

normal” and we know the road to wellness is long,

when you have your health, the rest of your life

falls into place.

What are they

saying about us? 16

Do you want to run a 5K? Do you want to cut back

on soft drinks and incorporate more vegetables

into your diet? Do you want to do more activities

that make you happy? These are all practices we

continually emphasize in the pages of this

magazine. So even if you don’t have all those

healthful things planned, don’t berate yourself,

this is a chance to make a difference for yourself.

Remember, be gentle with yourself, and stay

positive and focused.

Thank you,

From the Nolen Family

more time with family have been the silver linings we have found to hold onto during

this time. Truly taught us to always focus on the positive and be grateful for good

health. This past year has been a stark reminder of this lesson, which rings more true

than ever. We are truly grateful for health and loved ones above all. Coming together

during this time, whether over video calls with family or regular old landline chats,

reminds us of the value of togetherness. It has been encouraging to see the fortitude

in teamwork, how together we are stronger and more able to create new

opportunities.

By adding sanitation services with a residual component, we have also come

together to innovate bringing not only a valuable service to the community, but also

fostering a sense of care for one another. This we can all be proud of as we enter the

fall season where we continue to keep health and safety as a top priority for

everyone.

Also, as we enter the new season and the change in weather, now is a great time to

think about how to make the most of what remains of what has been an especially

challenging year for everyone. Maybe you have a bucket list you’d like to work on.

Maybe you have developed a new interest or new connections that you forged during

the peaks of the pandemic, or maybe you want to continue the great work you’ve

started helping our communities and loved ones feel safer. Whatever your ambitions,

the Nolen family share in your sense of pride in having been able to bring crucial

services to our customers and communities in what has been an exceptional year.

Now more than ever we are Truly thankful and grateful for the good health and

renewed sense of positive change going forward that we as a company are able to

provide.ful and grateful for the good health and renewed sense of positive change

Celebrating our Employees!

Everyone had great things to say and so many reasons

to celebrate all of our Truly team members.

Thank you all for doing what you do every day!

I would like to celebrate D. Every morning she walks into

the branch with a smile on her face. She goes above and

beyond for all of our partners and our customers as well.

Not only is she a great team player, she loves empanadas!

- Rafael Masferrer

She is one of the 1st several

CSRs brought on to start the

Admin Center. This past March,

she volunteered to take on the

daunting task of processing the

Fumigation Invoices for the

whole state of Florida. This also

out. At the height of this season,

I beleive there were over 200

Fumigations performed in one

month. This took a huge task off

my plate. She did this all, while

entering 2 good size branches,

train a new Data entry CSR and

an MIT. Talk about the Yellow

Standard. No matter what is needed to be done, she is up for the

Challange She has been instrumental in building what the Admin

Center is today.

Dawn has been with us since 2017. When we lost 3 Data entry CSRs in

most of those branches with her bubbly "can do" attitude we all love so

much. She then took on training 1 of the new DataEntry CSRS's. She is

an inspiration to the team always exsemplifying what CAN be done,

not what CAN’T be done. I always know everything will good during

everyone relax and realize everything is ok. Her creative ideas

especially during these challanging times on how to keep us all going

are priceless. The Yellow Standard above and beyond.

Quality Business Award - Best Pest Control Company in St Catharines

A big congratulations to Tom Davies and Steve Tschanz in Frn 505,

Niagara ON. They were awarded the Quality Business Award for

The Best Pest Control Company in St. Catharines. Often times, we

get lost in the day and the month and we don’t have time to lift our

head and recognize all the good we are doing. In Tom and Steve’s

case, they are some of our longest standing locations and are

“truly” a fantastic ambassador to the brand. Congratulations on all

Franchise Act of Kindess

We held our team appreciation event this past weekend at Mike

Kernaghan's cottage. Where we got the guys out of the city for a few days

for a team building, refresher event. We heard from Mike that the next

door neighbour, who is an elderly man, was recently diagnosed with stage

4 colon cancer was having issues with rodents, and mice on his property.

completed an external treatment and set up rodent stations for this man

free of charge. I was really proud of them for doing this, and taking time

out of their holiday weekend to do a site inspection/visit and work for this

couple. They were so appreciative of the time and how nice the team was

that they allowed the guys to utilize their beach for the evening. Just

showed me that we have the right people working for us and that the act

of kindness/give back to the community has really started to wear off on

the guys. Great work!

Winston-Salem Holds Grand Opening . . . via Zoom?

Our Winston-Salem franchise made history on August 18th by becoming the

and ribbon cutting. Franchise owner Jim Bess intended to host a big

community-focused grand opening celebration in April, but the pandamic

pushed back his plan to August. When it looked like August wouldn't be a go

either, he decided to charge forward virtually. Coordinating with Toby in PR

and his local Chamber of Commerce, he was able to hold his grand opening

ceremony and ribbon cutting via Zoom. The event was a huge success and

attended by over 30 people, many who raved about their positive experiences

Ask The Expert Scott Svenheim, ACE

Temperatures drop, pests move inside

– Fight back against bugs searching for warmth!

It may still be hot outside right now, but soon enough, the

nights will be starting to cool, and that is when the bugs

and rodents start looking for a nice warm place to spend

their cold winter nights. The best philosophy – be

proactive and not reactive, protecting homes from pests.

We all know that insects typically thrive in warm to hot

weather. They are cold-blooded creatures, and any

metabolism. So, insects will seek the heated indoor space

or crawl up the sides of buildings to higher ground to get

some sun. And right behind them, rodents like rats and

mice, also seek warmer winter homes this season.

During the colder months, the most common indoor

pests can be cockroaches, ants, crickets, spiders, and

house mice. Not only do these pests present infestation

problems, but, more importantly, they pose a risk to our

customer’s health. These nuisance pests tend to enter a

home through any crack, crevice, or small opening and

can live in ridiculously small spaces such as attics and

storage areas.

For those of us in most of our areas where it is temperate

during the winters, many outdoor cockroaches like the

American, Brown, and Oriental cockroaches thrive

outdoors. We know that roaches are strong, adaptable,

and persistent and quickly multiply in areas with

moisture, food, and dark hiding places, all spell trouble

for our customers and their homes.

Ask the Expert

10

Ask the Expert

Fall is the best time to start making your house, and our

customers’ homes, appear to pests as a fortress, not a

welcoming motel. While the landscape and temperatures

outdoors begin to change, each fall pest can be handled

with the following prevention tips for your customers:

Keep up those regular pest control visits to keep the

barriers refreshed. Remind your customers about the

importance of continuing service through the winter

months to prepare for a smooth spring.

In the yard, reduce clutter to give fewer hiding places.

Keeping landscaping such as mulch, brush, and plants

away from the side of the house will help eliminate hiding

places.

Seal cracks and small holes as soon as possible. Plan

ahead for falling temperatures.

and repair if necessary.

Repair leaky faucets and avoid any water accumulations.

Regular vacuuming and cleaning lessen the likelihood of

pest outbreaks.

Keep trash contained to decrease the smell and

attraction.

Keep food sealed tight.

Outdoor lighting should be kept to a minimum or

changed to yellow bug lights to avoid attracting pests

toward the house, if possible.

Don’t let our customers’ homes become the chosen

one or the block where insects and rodents will

spend the fall and winter months.
