the Scriptures, and He will give strength to persevere<br />

in the spiritual battle. Even our desire to<br />

honor Christ is the work of the Holy Spirit in our<br />

lives. Through His wisdom and power, and our<br />

moment by moment choice to follow Him, the<br />

Holy Spirit produces changes in our lives <strong>for</strong> the<br />

glory of Christ.<br />

Third, to become proficient at affirming these<br />

truths, we need to become students of God's Word<br />

and allow its truth to lodge deep within our hearts<br />

and minds. We should make it a regular practice to<br />

meditate upon the Word of God so that He can use<br />

it to change our beliefs, thoughts, emotions, and<br />

actions. David explained the power of applying<br />

the Scriptures:<br />

"Thy Word I have hidden in my heart<br />

that I may not sin against thee....<br />

"If Thy law had not been my delight,<br />

<strong>The</strong>n I would have perished in my affliction.<br />

I will never <strong>for</strong>get Thy precepts,<br />

<strong>for</strong> by them Thou hast revived me....<br />

"Thy word is a lamp to my feet, and a<br />

light to my path....<br />

<strong>The</strong>re<strong>for</strong>e I love Thy commandments<br />

above gold, yes, above fine gold" (Psalm<br />

119: 11,92-93,105,127).<br />

Fourth, affirm the truth that specifically corresponds<br />

to a particular false belief. Once we have<br />

identified a specific false belief as the cause of<br />

our improper emotional or behavioral reaction, we<br />

should claim God's corresponding truth in the situation.<br />

Finally, take time to reflect on the marvelous<br />

Biblical truth outlined in this book. It is not the<br />

unthinking, mechanical utterance of these truths<br />

which produces freedom, but the conscious realization<br />

of the truth which changes our minds and<br />
