An important source of funding and technology transferopportunities for the Institute are cooperative projects,awarded through competitive calls for proposals by nationaland international funding agencies, and contracts withindustry. During 2018, the Institute participated in a totalof 31 funded research projects and contracts, many ofwhich (13, a 41%) involve collaboration with industry andeight of them have direct industrial funding. Of these 31projects, 15 come from international sources (11 fundedby the European Union, one by the ONR-US agency, andfour by foreign companies), 13 have a national source,and funds for three come from regional sources, eitherthrough competitive calls or via contracts with companies.Note that due to non-disclosure agreements not all theindustrial projects them are reported in the rest of thischapter. Figure 1 shows the origin of project funding. Inthe same year, the Institute benefited from 8 fellowships.55annual report20The trend of external funding for the period 2012-2018is shown in Figure 2.
