Susan Schell is the Director of Senior Leadership and Organizational<br />
Development Programs of the College of Business at Colorado State<br />
University. After a long career as a business executive, she is now<br />
positioned to help the business world with training and development<br />
programs that improve company performance, assist with retention of<br />
employees and maintain a pool of trained personnel. Susan spent five<br />
years as an instructor in the College of Business and eight years as<br />
director of the Career Management Center. Prior to joining the College,<br />
she spent 7 years as an investment banker at Citadel Advisory Group,<br />
a boutique investment bank in Fort Collins, Colorado, and 18 years as a<br />
principal and executive at Advanced Energy Industries, Inc.<br />

Frank Smith received his BSE from the Air Force Academy, MBA from Chapman<br />
University and Ph.D. from Texas Tech University. His research includes Exchange<br />
Traded Funds, Market Valuation, Market Efficiency and Options Financial Modeling.<br />
Frank has published sixteen articles in seven years as a professor. They include<br />
topics ranging from financial distress and bankruptcy to the efficiency of exchange<br />
traded funds versus mutual funds. He has won three separate awards both for<br />
teaching and research.<br />
Having started and owned his own business, Frank brings real-world experience<br />
into the classroom. He has also performed consulting work for both regional banks<br />
and nationally recognized nonprofit organizations. He is proud of his two CFA<br />
Global Investment Challenge MidSouth Regional winning teams as well as the firstplace<br />
award for the hybrid division for the student managed fund he developed<br />
and ran at his previous school. He is a husband and father of two, and enjoys road<br />
biking, golf and spending time with his family.<br />

Through interactive discussions, small group simulations,<br />
360-degree feedback, and one-on-one coaching, this course<br />
will give you a deeper understanding of high-impact leadership<br />
and help you apply that understanding to take your leadership to<br />
the next level. After completing the course, you will have a solid<br />
foundation in the science-tested principles of leadership and<br />
understand your own leadership style and preferences. You will<br />
bring these principles and your personal practices together for<br />
form a Personal Leadership Analysis Plan. The course includes<br />
some pre-work.<br />

Troy Mumford enjoys doing research that explores leadership at different<br />
organizational levels (e.g., supervisory, managerial, and executive), in teams,<br />
and in shaping organizational culture. In addition, he investigates the types<br />
and determinants of leadership team roles as well as the connection between<br />
leadership actions and systems in driving organizational quality culture. He has<br />
published his research in multiple premier journals. Troy is also passionate about<br />
teaching, and has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Organizational<br />
Behavior, Human Resource Management, Compensation and Benefits, and<br />
Management, receiving and being nominated for several teaching awards. He<br />
has also been involved in variety of independent consulting and applied research<br />
projects for organizations in the biomedical, manufacturing, financial, legal, and<br />
airline industries as well as the United States government.<br />
Troy received his Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource<br />
Management from the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue<br />
University.<br />

thinking, a method for creative problem solving and continuous<br />
innovation. Design thinking is a collaborative process that<br />
emphasizes diverse thinking and creative problem solving<br />
to create value. Participants in this sprint will build creative<br />
competence, appreciate and experience the value of failure, risk,<br />
and experimentation, and gain confidence in adapting design<br />
thinking processes and tools to fit their industry.<br />

Scott Shrake serves as the Director for the Institute for Entrepreneurship in<br />
the College of Business at Colorado State University. As the Director of the<br />
Institute, he promotes entrepreneurship, innovation, product development, and<br />
commercialization for students, faculty, and community members. Previously,<br />
Scott served as an engineering faculty member and the Executive Director of<br />
Entrepreneurial Advancement at Arizona State University.<br />
Shrake was the co-founder and COO of Vicinity Health Inc., a digital health startup<br />
that was selected as a finalist for the TiE 50 Awards Program and recognized<br />
as one of the 100 hottest global tech startups in 2014. He has also served as a<br />
mentor and advisor to multiple startups in education technology, health care, and<br />
sustainability.<br />
Scott received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of<br />
Pittsburgh’s Sustainability and Green Design Group.<br />

Mary Peery is the President of Mary Peery & Associates. She has 23 years<br />
of experience as a business manager with Hewlett Packard including<br />
global business management, executive leadership, strategy development,<br />
operations, transformation leadership, and organizational change management.<br />
From the time Mary joined HP in 1984 until she become Senior Vice President<br />
of Digital Imaging and Publishing in 2000, she held positions in R&D and<br />
Manufacturing in developing and bringing to market many leading-edge<br />
technology products and solutions for consumer and commercial customers.<br />
In 1993, Mary assumed a rotational role as the Northern Colorado regional<br />
diversity manager. For 18 months, Mary worked with the business leaders in this<br />
region to help them understand the importance of diversity to their businesses<br />
and to implement diversity strategies within their organizations.<br />
Mary holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Colorado State<br />

This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of primary<br />
and secondary data analysis with the aim of applying analytic<br />
techniques used by marketers to transform data into decisionmaking<br />
information. The course will instruct you in the concepts,<br />
methods, and applications of these research practices. A variety<br />
of research approaches will be examined, including methods for<br />
collecting primary research as well as analytical methods applied<br />
to both primary and secondary data. The use of secondary data<br />
from numerous data sources to inform marketing decisions has<br />
become more widely accepted in business practice.<br />

Professor Gina Slejko holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University<br />
of Colorado Boulder (2002) and a Ph.D. in marketing from the Leeds School<br />
of Business at the University of Colorado Boulder (2009). Gina’s expertise is in<br />
consumer behavior and her research efforts focus on topics of consumer wellness,<br />
and sensory marketing. Her research appears in the Journal of Consumer<br />
Research, the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of Consumer Psychology, Health<br />
Psychology, Food Quality and Preference, Appetite and has appeared in media<br />
outlets including The Wall Street Journal, BBC News, The Telegraph, Boston<br />
Globe, and NPR.com.<br />
In her consulting, Gina focuses on the use of straight-forward analytical methods<br />
to help companies leverage the data they have to make better business decisions.<br />
She currently teaches these analytical methods in Marketing Research and<br />
Marketing Analytics in the undergraduate program at the College of Business as<br />
well as in the Data Analytics Specialization of the MBA.<br />

by the Great Places to Work Institute.<br />
Diane has led teams at Fortune 100 & 500 companies in developing innovative<br />
strategies that engage leaders, teams and organizations to align around what is<br />

This course blends managerial and theoretical perspectives<br />

course is business-to-business (B2B) selling, although many<br />
of the course concepts are relevant for direct-to-consumer<br />
situations. The course examines the entire sales process, with<br />
particular emphasis on relationship selling, planning and delivery<br />
of sales presentations, and trust-building techniques.<br />
John Weiss has had a relationship with the College of Business at Colorado<br />
State University for nearly 40 years. He received his bachelor’s degree in finance<br />
from CSU in 1979 and then a master’s degree in Marketing in 1988. In over 30<br />
years of employment at the College, he has served in both faculty and senior<br />
administrative roles.<br />
John began a private sector career in 1979 with Georgia-Pacific Corporation’s<br />
Distribution Division, where he initially held several product-management positions<br />
before moving into outside sales and sales management roles. After completing<br />
his graduate degree at CSU, he moved into an academic career, joining the CSU<br />
College of Business, Department of Marketing as a faculty member.<br />
For over 20 years he has also maintained business relationships with a wide<br />
variety of large and small private sector firms providing consulting in both<br />
marketing research and sales force management.<br />

Travis Maynard teaches team effectiveness and leadership classes at both the<br />
undergraduate and graduate levels at CSU, where he has been nominated for<br />
a variety of teaching awards. In addition to teaching, Travis has also conducted<br />
extensive research in the areas of team effectiveness and leadership.<br />
He is currently conducting research projects with the U.S. Army and NASA looking<br />
at team resilience and adaptation. He has received several research awards for his<br />
publications in premier journals.<br />
Travis holds a BBA in Accounting from the College of William and Mary, an<br />
MBA from the University of Denver Daniels College of Business, and a Ph.D. in<br />
Organizational Behavior from the University of Connecticut.<br />

impact your organization. This includes the ability to prioritize<br />
impacts so that you can leverage innovations to create a<br />

Phil McKinney is President and CEO of CableLabs, the nonprofit research and<br />
development and innovation lab funded by the global cable industry. During his<br />
career, McKinney has held leadership positions in major companies, including<br />
serving as CTO for Hewlett-Packard. While at HP, McKinney created the Innovation<br />
Program Office (IPO). The IPO identified, incubated, and launched adjacent and<br />
fundamentally new technologies, products, and services that became the growth<br />
engines for HP.<br />
An author, speaker, and innovation guru, McKinney shares his rule-breaking<br />
approach to innovation and creativity in his book Beyond the Obvious. He has<br />
been recognized by Fast Company, BusinessWeek, MSNBC, Vanity Fair and other<br />
media outlets for his industry contributions. In 2016, his podcast, Killer Innovations,<br />
became a nationally syndicated talk radio show, carried by more than 65 radio<br />
stations.<br />

Very few businesses have the capability to do everything<br />
themselves, and almost all businesses rely on suppliers,<br />
contractors, service providers and other external partners to<br />
deliver products and services to their customers. Businesses<br />
that optimize their supply chains and effectively manage their<br />
suppliers as an extension of their internal operations gain<br />
a competitive advantage that enables them to serve their<br />
customers and maintain profitability.<br />
Tim Rodgers has been employed at the CSU College of Business since<br />
2014, teaching graduate-level courses in project management, agile project<br />
management, supply chain management, quantitative business analysis, and<br />
strategic decision making.<br />
Tim’s career includes 25 years at Hewlett-Packard and Lockheed Missiles &<br />
Space in a variety of roles, including management of manufacturing engineering,<br />
international supply chain management, and quality engineering teams. He was<br />
Director of Manufacturing and Quality at Foxconn eMS in Shenzhen, China, from<br />
2009-2011. Tim also held positions at Eastman Kodak Co. and Advanced Energy<br />
Industries, Inc.<br />
Tim has a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California (Santa Cruz), and<br />
an MBA from the University of Oregon. He is a Project Management Professional<br />
(PMP) and a Six Sigma Black Belt. He hosts the podcast Dare to Know, which<br />
features interviews with quality and reliability thought leaders.<br />

A growing number of businesses are realizing that their ability to<br />
successfully execute projects is closely tied to revenue growth<br />
and profitability. Business leaders are entrusted to manage the<br />
resources and assets of the firm, and their understanding of<br />
project management principles helps them ensure that they<br />
apply those resources in a way that maximizes shareholder<br />
value. This course helps the participant understand the basic<br />
skills associated with traditional and agile forms of project<br />
management, including making tradeoffs between schedule,<br />
cost, performance, risk managment, stakeholder management,<br />
project monitoring, release planning, and iteration management.<br />
LEARNING OUTCOMES<br />

management tools and techniques such as<br />
work breakdown structures, project networks,<br />
Gantt charts, critical path analysis, earned value<br />
management and schedule buffering.<br />

certifications from the Project Management<br />
Institute (PMI), including the Project<br />

Tim Rodgers has been employed at the CSU College of Business since<br />
2014, teaching graduate-level courses in project management, agile project<br />
management, supply chain management, quantitative business analysis, and<br />
strategic decision making.<br />
Tim’s career includes 25 years at Hewlett-Packard and Lockheed Missiles &<br />
Space in a variety of roles, including management of manufacturing engineering,<br />
international supply chain management, and quality engineering teams. He was<br />
Director of Manufacturing and Quality at Foxconn eMS in Shenzhen, China, from<br />
2009-2011. Tim also held positions at Eastman Kodak Co. and Advanced Energy<br />
Industries, Inc.<br />
Tim has a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California (Santa Cruz), and<br />
an MBA from the University of Oregon. He is a Project Management Professional<br />
(PMP) and a Six Sigma Black Belt. He hosts the podcast “Dare to Know,” which<br />
features interviews with quality and reliability thought leaders.<br />

DESCRIPTION<br />
This course will forward your understanding of each step in<br />
the acquisition process, including understanding the need<br />
for acquiring, prospecting, valuing the target, creating and<br />
presenting the offer, doing due diligence and closing the<br />
deal. Participants will gain an understanding of the various<br />
components of mergers and acquisitions in the small and middle<br />
markets, including tools and advisors. You will learn to recognize<br />
red flags, how to move past them, and make better decisions on<br />
when to kill a deal vs. moving forward.<br />
Scott Myatt joined Caber Hill Advisors in 2017 as Managing Director on the<br />
firm’s healthcare team with a primary responsibility to lead M&A activities in the<br />
audiology and hearing aid industry. He has been recognized as one of the most<br />
transformative executives in the audiology and hearing aid industry, completing<br />
over 60 transactions.<br />
Scott spent the previous 11 years working in corporate M&A for numerous hearing<br />
aid manufacturers. Prior to entering the audiology and hearing aid industry, Scott<br />
worked as an acquisition professional in the energy industry and as a valuation<br />
professional for a consulting firm.<br />
Scott holds a B.A. in Japanese from Brigham Young University, an MBA from<br />
Colorado State University, and a Master of International Management from<br />
Thunderbird School of Global Management.<br />

This course will offer a data privacy framework that explains<br />

organizational, regulatory and global perspectives. Participants<br />
will have a comprehensive understanding of the data privacy<br />
landscape and will be able to identify the most serious privacy<br />
elements in the organization and proactively improve practices<br />
for strategic advantage.<br />
Kelly D. Martin is Professor of Marketing and Dean’s Distinguished Research<br />
Fellow at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. She joined CSU in 2007, and<br />
currently teaches Quantitative Business Analysis across the College of Business<br />
MBA Programs.<br />
She is coauthor of the book The Intelligent Marketer’s Guide to Data Privacy. Kelly<br />
is incoming Co-editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing.<br />
Kelly holds a bachelor’s degree from Gonzaga University, an MBA from the Heider<br />
College of Business at Creighton University, and a Ph.D. from the Carson College<br />
of Business at Washington State University, where she was Outstanding Graduate<br />
Student for Research. Prior to academia, she worked as a marketing director in the<br />

DESCRIPTION<br />
Sustainability issues are having increasing effects on corporate<br />
strategy and action. While such issues present substantial risks,<br />
they also create substantive opportunities. The course offers<br />
insight into the central issues of sustainability, the increasing<br />
business case for sustainability, and an overview of the<br />
concepts, tools, and techniques of sustainable enterprise. The<br />
course will begin with an overview of sustainability and move<br />
to addressing the opportunities present in the transition to a<br />
more sustainable economy. The course will also address the<br />
various languages and tools used by sustainability professionals,<br />
overviewing various topics such as environmental marketing,<br />
carbon accounting, life cycle analysis, certification systems,<br />
systems innovation, and greenhouse gas policy approaches.<br />
LEARNING OUTCOMES<br />
1. Recognize the economic sources of social and<br />
environmental problems and the transformation<br />
necessary to eliminate those underlying<br />
conditions.<br />
2. Develop an understanding of the importance<br />
of sustainability issues to corporations and<br />

Dr. Thomas J. Dean is Research Fellow and Professor of Entrepreneurship<br />
and Sustainable Enterprise in the College of Business and School of Global<br />
Environmental Sustainability at Colorado State University. A pioneer in the field<br />
of sustainable and environmental entrepreneurship, he authored the first known<br />
environmental entrepreneurship course in 2001, won accolades for his rigorous<br />
theoretical examination of environmental entrepreneurship in 2007, and published<br />
the first textbook on sustainable venturing in 2013.<br />
He teaches in CSU’s Impact MBA Program and has consulted with numerous<br />
companies and start-ups. He has published over 60 manuscripts and book<br />
chapters. He holds a B.S. in Environmental Management from Penn State<br />
University, an MBA from Oklahoma State University, and a Ph.D. in Strategic<br />
Management from the University of Colorado.<br />

take that next step. All of our courses are offered independently, so you can learn the skills that are most<br />
important to you. There are no prerequisites, and professionals at all levels of industry are welcome to<br />
enroll.<br />
Courses are 16 hours in length and are held on Fridays and Saturdays either on campus in Fort Collins,<br />
Colorado, or online via Mosaic. We offer two courses per month. Upon completion of a course, participants<br />
who attend both days of the course will receive a certificate. There are no formal examinations or grades.<br />
