Script: The Exterminators by Theo B
Setting: Partly destroyed town; evening
Scene 1: Monsters overrunning the pier of the town. A couple of brave villagers try to prevent the horde
from reaching the town’s walls but fail. Many other villagers without weapons run to the town’s stronghold
via a bridge. The Fortress begins to fill with fleeing villagers, they are not able to take anymore. Focus on a
small group of villagers fleeing into the neighbouring forest after being denied access to the Fortress. The
frontline begins to fall apart, many are lost to the oncoming swarm. Skip to ten minutes later. The frontline
is gone, the swarm is advancing towards the fortress, the villagers are making a last stand. The screen goes
black, when it shows the fortress again, it has been overrun; there is no one left.
Cuts to a week later…Scene 2 begins.
Scene 2: The Captain, Pigman, bows below his king. The king informs him of a great tragedy in which a
whole town fell, and hundreds died. The king orders the Captain to take his crew to clear out the monster
infested city so they can retrieve the riches of the people who died there. He informs Pigman that there
was a lot of treasure in that town, and he could earn a lot of money from clearing it out. Pigman starts to
the door but the king interrupts him. “Take my sword. Make this sword the one that defeats the witch who
led this gruesome attack on those people. Oh, and be careful of the dragon.”
“Drago-
“Yes, yes now off you go…” The king shuts the door on Pigman, who proceeds to gather his crew and head
to the armoury.
Scene 3: Shows the Exterminators suiting up, grabbing various pieces of armour and weapons. Shows all 16
of the Exterminators walking towards the docks. They board their ship and sail towards the infested town.
Shows the Captain at the helm looking down at his crew. Shows the Archer, standing in the crow’s nest
with a bow. Shows some of the other crew, wearing armour and speaking to one another. The ship sails
over the horizon.
Scene 4 begins…
Scene 4: The Captain leads his crew into the town. It is empty as far as they can see. He sorts them not
groups and tells them each to search a part of the ruins. He takes his second in command, Magmo, to the
treasury to find what the king desired. To get to the treasury, they must climb to the top floor and cross a
bridge to the other tower. This tower has no access from the bottom, hence the second tower and the
bridge. The two men are shocked to find a room piled high with gold, diamonds and other items. Magmo
picks up an enchanted helmet and puts it on. The Captain takes an enchanted pickaxe and swings it
through the air. Magmo then looks towards the corner of the room. There are three chests. He opens one
to find diamonds and minerals. Pigman opens another to find it full of emeralds. Pigman then opens the
next chest find it completely empty. No, not completely empty. There was an apple in the corner. Why
would there be an apple in this chest? he thought. He looked closer and picked it up. This was no ordinary
apple. It was a golden apple! These things cost an arm and a leg, and now he was in possession of one!
Magmo looked over and Pigman hid the apple from his view. No one could know about this. He and
Magmo then leave, the apple hidden behind Pigman’s back as he climbs over the bridge to the other tower
and begins his descent to the ground floor.
Scene 5: Halfway down the tower, Pigman hears the scream of one of his men. He looks out of the tower
to see the Archer fire an arrow out of his view. This must have failed, as within ten seconds, the Archer had
fired three more. At this point, more of his crew were joining the archer, some of them firing their own
bows, some of them pulling out swords. Something colourful flew into view and shattered on his crew.
Before his eyes, Pigman watched three of his best men fall to the floor…and begin to melt. Another
projectile flew into view, hitting the Archer, who then burst into flames. The other two men finally realised
what was going on and fled to the boat.
Scene 6: Pigman and Magmo ran down the stairs to the ground floor where the tragedy had taken place
and discovered what it was that had killed the men. Standing there, with two zombies behind her, was the
witch. She was wearing a purple robe with gold-lining and the stereotypical black hat. The zombies behind
her wore raggedy blue tops and purple trousers. Their skin was green, their eyes lifeless. One of the
zombies was holding a banner marked with skull and crossbones. It flapped violently in the wind above his
head and was evidently irritating him. Pigman pulled out his sword and began to walk towards the witch.
She gulped down a bottle of liquid and vanished into thin air, leaving only the zombies to worry about.
Pigman and Magmo had slashed them to the ground before they could react, the banner lying in a pile of
blood.
Scene 7: Pigman concluded that this place was more dangerous than even the king had realised. Then
again, the king had not seen what Pigman had just witnessed. Three of the men he had known for most of
his time as an exterminator, gone within seconds. The Archer’s burnt corpse lay at his feet. He would get
this witch, no matter what it cost him. The two men from the boat joined them, and together, they set out
to regroup. Walking through the town, Pigman realised something. There were no bodies. Not a single one,
save for the poor Archer. The king had said that a whole town had fallen. Hundreds had died, but who had
cleaned up afterwards? Where were the villagers, and better more…where were the monsters that had
caused said destruction? The king had described it as an army, a horde, a swarm, but there was no army
apart from the measly zombies that they had disposed of so easily. There was something more to this, and
Pigman would find out what that something was. There was clearly battle damage: smashed windows,
swords and axes laying on the ground, there were even pieces of armour in some places! This was odd to
Pigman, as armour was scattered everywhere. How did it all come off? Were the villagers foolish enough to
take it off mid-battle? Surely not.
Scene 8: They ended up finding 3 more men, leaving the majority still missing somewhere. Everyone he
had sent to the east of the town had not been heard from. Three groups had been sent in that direction,
meaning five of the men were still missing, and four – Pigman still could not believe this – were dead. In
what seemed the most dangerous part of the city, the East, was a large fortress, surrounded by an old
stone wall and two large watch towers. On the towers hung banners, although the Captain could not make
out the pattern on them, if there was a pattern at all. It was beginning to get dark, and the remaining crew
were feeling uneasy. From the abandoned houses came creaks and bangs that made the men ever jumpier.
They were getting to the point where the town ended, and the forest started. In the gloom of the trees
came even worse noises. Grumbles and groans and growls came from the shadows, and no one wanted to
be the first to enter the forest. Pigman was about to volunteer when a twig snapped in the gloom. They
heard a bush rumble and then the sound of footsteps. Footsteps moving slowly but surely towards where
they were standing. Pigman heard one of the younger men whimper. No one spoke a word. He could now
hear two sets of footsteps. The ones that were coming from the forest, but also the ones of some of his
crew moving back. A bunch of cowards, Pigman thought, but then he realised he was also taking a couple
of steps back. He gave a sharp look to his crew, who hesitated but stopped. Magmo pulled out his sword
and stepped towards the wood. Still no one said anything, no one volunteered, and only Magmo moved.
His figure became less visible as he kept walking, further into the darkness…
Scene 9: Everyone stared on as Magmo moved further in, now barely visible. The footsteps inside the
forest faltered and stopped. Only Magmo’s gentle steps were audible. He was now no longer visible, and
only the sound of his footsteps gave any indication that he was actually there.
Step…step…step…step……………...step……………nothing. the footsteps faltered. Then a strange noise came
from the shadows. It was like a cackle but jollier. Pigman realised it was Magmo, and he was laughing. Two
figures wandered into the clearing, Magmo and another creature. It was a sheep! It was just a sheep. The
sight of the sheep caused everyone to start laughing. Oh, it was just a sheep! A silly sheep that caused so
much tension. Behind Magmo came four more sheep that wandered off back the way Pigman’s crew had
come. It must have been the town’s livestock. Odd that they were out of the pen though. The crew found it
much easier to stroll into the forest than they had before. The tension was gone and one or two of the men
were having a conversation about who was braver, but neither of the men cared as they were just happy
that nothing bad had happened. They kept getting deeper into the forest, and it was getting increasingly
difficult to see where they were going. From far away, the forest had seemed so small, but now they were
in it, it felt as if it would never end! They carried on walking, the path changing from a solid rock path into
muddy, swampy puddles. Everyone was talking now, either complaining and whining about the mud or
arguing about who did what better. Pigman was quite the opposite. Where are the monsters? The king
must have exaggerated when he told of such a tragedy. But he had been given the king’s sword, so he had
to go on. In this land, to be given the king’s sword was an honour. It was only ever given to the most
capable warriors, and was often used to declare war on other kingdoms. This time, though, was a lot
different. The king had not even held a ceremony, he had just given it to him and sent him away. The other
thing was the dragon. The king had mentioned to be careful of a dragon, but there was no dragon. In fact,
there weren’t any monsters at all save those zombies and the ‘vanishing’ witch. Pigman would have
continued this train of thought had something not snagged his attention. He held his hand up, signalling
the rest of the group to stop. Just ahead of them, was something. Someone, something, some creature. He
could not tell. It was lying against a tree, barely visible. He took a step closer and squinted at it. It wasn’t
moving. Perhaps it was sleeping. Another sheep? He prayed it was just another sheep, but he already knew
it wasn’t. He took one step closer, and that was when he saw it. It was no creature. No, it was one of crew,
one of his men, and he was dead. Stuck in his shoulder was an arrow. It was then that he noticed that the
body was not alone. It was among many bodies, scattered around the area. He saw two more of his men
here, and knew that the other two must have suffered the same fate. The villagers must have fled into
here in hopes of making it to the fortress. He already knew what had shot them, but what he saw next only
confirmed it. Above him, a streak of white jumped from one tree to another, causing leaved to rain upon
him. Skeletons.
