KATA KATA
CARTOON MAGAZINE
Kata Kata is an authentic African cartoon
magazine with both online and printed versions.
In a humorous way, Kata Kata tries to discuss and
sensitize typical African / global socio - political
issues, mainly through illustrations, animations etc.
Furthermore, through its social network (Kata Kata
Community), it tries to keep those cultural entities
alive by stimulating personal interactions and
exchange of ideas amongst the readers.
At the same time, Kata Kata equally offers a maxim
that life is perhaps not all about seriousness. One
needs some laughs and relaxation to face serious
challenges in life.
The duality of Kata Kata is such that it tries to discuss
serious issues, at the same time, it offers a therapy for
the problems through laughter.
The quarterly printed edition of Kata Kata is widely
available in the Netherlands and some countries
in Europe. Equally, the digital version of Kata Kata
can also be read online or subscribed to via Kata
Kata website or Magzter, the world’s largest digital

Dreaming your own dream
Religion And Semantics
Life is the mother of endless dreams and aspirations. To make your dream come
through, you must first set out goals and have ambitions in life. But you cannot
talk about pursuing your goals or planning the strategies to achieve them without
first knowing exactly what you really want in life. Nor can you achieve much by
trying to live the life of others. Everyone has their own dream in life. You must
dream your own dream, and never allow others to dream for you.
Our time is very limited on earth. Every single ticking of the clock brings one
a step closer to their ultimate end, hence time is a luxury, which calls for wise
decisions and aims in life. Those who make it in life are those who refused to
dream the dream of others, despite frustrations and setbacks.
Every human being is blessed with special talents – no matter your position. You
just need to discover your talent and work towards turning it into a productive
and useful end. You don’t need to be rich or educated to have a talent, the natural
gift. However, it is expected that you use your talent to change your life and those
of others positively. Sadly, the greatest percentage of the problems facing the
world today is because human beings misuse their talents. Some people misuse
their talents because they did not even bother to know what their talent is.
Others try to imitate or emulate others, only to end up in self-pity and - if not -
destruction. Of course, there are others who waste their talents and dream due to
nonchalance or laziness.

You basically cannot achieve much in life without a positive attitude towards life.
Your positive attitude is the ultimate key to new possibilities. A positive attitude
makes you more resilient and it can even prolong your life. Yes, life comes with
ups and downs, but the most important thing in life is to learn from those downs
and make the ups better. Your disappointments or challenges should be your
teacher or classroom where you learn from. Be positive despite all the obstacles.
Naturally, those hurdles on the road could slow you down, but never allow
them to hold you up. With a positive attitude to life, you will surely reach your
destination and achieve your life dreams.
What exactly do we want in life? Live in self-pity? Undertake a task or journey
we truly know we are not capable of completing, simply because that would make
others have a positive impression of us? Do we do things just to please others,
even though we know our actions might be unfruitful? That would mean living
in a borrowed robe; living others’ lives.
Is Useni listening? Can his daughter convince him otherwise? Definitely, she
needs to convince him he is too old to enter the military. Chances are that Useni
would not listen to her; in that case, we need to let him know that the military
has its own structure and code of conduct, which include “obey before complain”
and respect for the rank.
Let us quickly call Useni’s attention before he gets more punishment and
setbacks in life.

Health
Ebola
virus
and its
Challenges in
2019
By Ogo Ubabukoh
A story had it that a man was
seriously ill for weeks and all
treatments seemed not to produce
any effective results. After many trials
and errors, the man and his wife went
for an elaborate test, which eventually
revealed the unexpected bad news.
Afraid to break the shocking news to
the man, the doctor called his wife
aside and broke the news.
“God is wonderful. He has done it
again for me.” The woman shouted,
dancing.
Confused, the doctor had to repeat
the result of the test to her, albeit to
the hearing of her husband, who was
looking anxiously but confused, waiting
to know the outcome of the test.
“Didn’t you hear what the doctor said,
woman?” The visibly sad husband
shouted at his wife angrily
“Thank God it is only Aids, not Ebola.”
She responded happily.
While sympathizing with the man who was
diagnosed with Aids, the reaction of his wife
shows clearly how dangerous and deadly
Ebola is and people’s attitude towards it. Presently,
Aids is no more considered as deadly
as before. With the latest drugs against Aids,
infected persons can live longer and a normal
life. On the other hand, Ebola has taken over
as one of the world’s most dangerous diseases
today. First discovered in 1976, although it
is believed to have been in existence since
10,000 years ago, Ebola is an infectious viral
disease that affects both humans and nonhuman
primates, such as chimpanzees, monkeys,
and gorillas. It has become the most terrifying
epidemic of the last years, responsible for
11,300 and 28,000 infected victims. ) people.
Of the five species of Ebola virus, it is believed
that four types, mostly found around Zaire,
Bundibugyo, Taï and Sudan are not only the
most deadly, but they equally caused the most
outbreaks. Cases of such an outbreak were in
West Africa countries of Sierra Leone, Liberia
and Guinea.
What makes Ebola worrisome as we struggle
with the virus in 2019, is the fact that the
affected regions lack quality health systems
to combat the outbreak. With the affected
areas in economic malaise due to blatant
corruption, mismanagement, coupled with
instability, the prospect of combating an Ebola
outbreak in Africa can be challenging. The
latest outbreak of Ebola in the conflict-torn
North Kivu, in the North-Eastern Democratic
Republic of the Congo, shows how dangerous
and deadly the virus can easily spread – and
how helpless the health workers can be as
well. With more than 574 cases recorded and
347 deaths reported, the future is not promising.
Worse still, the conflict in DRC makes it a
big threat and unsafe for aid workers to tackle
the virus. Not even the presence of the UNO
peacekeepers in North Kivu (DRC) for nearly
two decades, offers much help or hope in the
efforts to tackle the spread of the deadly virus.
Apart from little effort from the government
in DRC to solve the Ebola challenges, some
of the affected areas are simply too dangerous
for even the most die-hard medical workers
to venture into. Some infected people who
have been diagnosed have fled the area due
to war, making them more likely to die of the
virus. Furthermore, other uninfected people
are not only exposed to the virus, but the
whole country and other non-indigenes, who
may have visited the affected area or had contact
with infected people will also most likely
spread the virus to other parts of the world.
What is frightening is that the outbreak of
Ebola in highly populated areas comes with
not only health challenges, it is easy to infect
many and claim many innocent lives. As of
2018, it became apparent that Ebola is rapidly
spreading to both Butembo and Goma both
in the DRC. What is scary is that while Butembo
has a population of a million people;
Goma, on the other hand, is a major transportation
city for other East Africa countries. We
all know the implications.
But what about other parts of the world?
Ebola is transmitted from human to human
through direct contact. The virus can be
transmitted when bodily fluids, like stool, saliva,
sweat, semen of infected patients or bodies
come in contact with mucous membranes of a
non-infected person. Typical initial symptoms
start 2 to 21 days after one is infected. Like
other virus infections, fever, weakness and
joint pain are typical of Ebola. Those signs are
followed by other symptoms like diarrhoea,
vomiting, vital organ failures and sometimes,
both internal and external bleeding. However,
despite this scary scenario and deadly outcome,
Health experts think Ebola infection
rates are considerably lower than for other
diseases because the virus survives a bit more
than 30 seconds outside a bodily fluid. Regardless,
that is not a reason to be jubilant.
But apart from the concern about the spread
of the virus in other cities, some health
workers have questioned the availability of
the much-needed vaccine to combat the outbreak
of the virus. It is believed that Merck,
the producer of the vaccine against the Ebola
virus has just about 300,000 doses available.
This calls the attention of the World Health
Organisation to make sure enough vaccine
doses are available and kept in stock in case of
an unexpected outbreak.
Clearly, we need the collaboration and assistance
of everyone to enable us to fight and
defeat Ebola virus disease in the year 2019.
Otherwise, it might be in the Democratic
Republic of Congo, Liberia, Sierra Leona,
Guinea today, tomorrow it could be next to
your door.

HOW TO GET
THAT PERFECT
PARTY
By Rosemary Mirembe
We all want to look our
very best during parties,
cocktails, barbecues and
other social events. Party dressing
etiquette centers on “what to wear and
where” and these are, practicalities
that can’t be ignored, as well as the
overriding sense of fun.You need to have
the look, after all, how are you supposed
to get your party on if you aren’t dressed
the part?
Opt for day to night
dresses, with the longer days
of parties; you have more time
to enjoy yourself. You can either
have a fun day out and continue
with an evening party, changing
to a new outfit is tiresome,
so having something you can
dress up or down is the perfect
solution. Then later a quick swap
of accessories will turn it to a
great party look.
14 Kata kata cartoon magazine Issue 21 2019 www.katakata.org
Wearing white could save
the day. If you don’t know what
color to pick for the function,
you’ll be saved with white. It may
not technically be a good color,
but it’s popular and you stand
out, so try white pants, tops,
shirts or suit and brighten it up
with more colorful accessories.
Party shoes are one of the
essential elements of your
party outfit. You need a fantastic
pair, but again be able to party all
night in them. Consider that they
shouldn’t be anything too difficult
to walk in; there is a variety in
style from clogs, masculine flats to
gladiator sandals.
No outfit is complete without
accessories, especially
at a party. Instead of big and
bold necklaces, go for a simple
pendant necklace. This will create a
sophisticated look and still get you
plenty of attention. Get the right bag
in color and size for the function and
remember trends keep changing.
Wear the perfect makeup for the
party because it will definitely enhance
that look. Do your foundation, eye
and lip magic that isn’t too much, but
excellent for anyone. With this, you
will without a doubt, stand out of the
crowd.
Remember the smile. Lastly, like
my mummy used to tell me when I
was little, you’re never fully dressed
without a smile. Remember, it’s a fun
moment and you ought to have a good
time, so pleaseput on and keep your
smile bright, you will flourish throw the
occasion. Enjoy and have fun!!

Beauty
By Rosemary Mirembe
eauty therapy is the provision of various specialist treatments
aimed at improving a person’s appearance or well-being, such
as facials, manicures, unwanted hair removal and many others.
It is carried out by a professional beauty therapist or individuals
themselves. Recently facial herbal steam has become very popular.
Considering that in the comfort of your home, you can uninterruptedly
experience facial herbal steam treatment and at a less cost, many have
opted for this kind of treatment. It is simple to do and offers the skin a
glow and refreshing feel. You don’t need a pricey facial steam machine
like those at the spa to attain the many benefits of the treatment. Simply
find a mixing bowl, the right herbs, boiled water and get ready to steam
off.
Facials are one of the most popular spa services (offerings) for good
reason; they aren’t only incredibly relaxing but they offer a number of
beauty benefits, a steady stream of warm soothing steam does a lot more
than instantly relax your body and mind as shown below:
Affordable
Herbal Steam

Beauty therapy is

improving
a person’s
appearance
or well-being,
such as facials,

Blood circulation: Exposure to warm steam does not only
increase perspiration, but it also helps your skin’s blood vessels to dilate
and (thus) improve blood flow.
Skin hydration: The moist heat revives dry, pale, tired-looking skin
largely because of the fresh, warm blood. So your skin will look healthier
and give you a comforting feeling.
Unclogs pores: The warm steam softens the skin’s surface, which
makes it easier for bacteria and dirt to exit pores. Thus, it cleans up your
skin and gives you a healthy look.
Promotes a healthy glow: That boost in circulation
underneath the skin, plus hydration to the surface, will help you look
purely refreshed.
The herbal aromas calm nerves: When you add herbs and
essential oils to your facial steam, it works as aromatherapy to help soothe
your mind and body.
Absolutely, the herbal facial steam is not only a homemade remedy; it is
equally incredibly cost effective as well as no time bound. You are your
own therapist (or a friend helping you, is); you are at the liberty to stop
the treatment when you believe the intended satisfying results have been
attained. A good reason to go for the facial herbal steam, Isn’t it?

They are nothing new or anything you haven’t
seen, but I adore flowers - especially, the
glamour and freshness they bring, which to
me, is reviving. Flowers, like many other decorative
elements, make their greatest impact on mass. Did
you know, that different flowers have meanings
associated with them and specific ones befit
alternate occasions?
Displaying flowers is as much about the choice of
type as about the choice of vessel and positioning
within the house. This can largely define whether
the display will emit an antique or modern
atmosphere.
When it comes to providing your room with a
personal touch, natural and lively ambiance in
the house, then you know it’s time to bring in the
flowers. They have a magnificent role in providing
the charming natural beauty regardless of the breed;
they also add style, a feel of nature to the room.
Therefore, here are a few points to consider in order
to bring out the use of flowers for in-house decor.
Adopt the flowers in the style of your
room
Just like everything else in the living room, the
flower types have a specific style such as elegant,
modern or vintage, so adapt those that match.

Add a colorful bouquet of freshness
The presence of a colorful bouquet has been
always a great idea to bring freshness and
beauty tone in the room. It will open up the
room and provide it with a lovely note.
Add flowers on unusual places
In order to escape the monotony of having flowers on the centre
table, you should pick some other creative spots to expose the
bouquet.

TECHNOLOGY
The Latest 2019 Technological
Inventions By Tedman Oscar
Our world is presently controlled by technology. Many new inventions have taken our lives
positively by surprise and changed the way we interact with one another or live our lives.
Technology makes life easy and bridges the proximity gap. But technology equally comes at
a price. A brief look at the latest technological inventions in 2019

Lenovo Smart Clock with
Google Assistant
Most of us are used to an alarm clock, some with
beautiful music or radio stations to brighten your
day as you are forced to leave your dreamland back
to your normal daily routine. Nor are we new to
those interactive screens from your usual laptop
to your addictive smartphones. But none of these
gadgets can be compared with the latest Lenovo
Smart Clock. Yes, smart clock indeed. Sure, it is
an epitome of simplicity, because it won’t video
conference or stream TV, but it performs other
incredibly functions you’d not expect. Of course,
every alarm clock tells time, but Lenovo Smart Clock
goes beyond that. It charges your phones and makes
sure it does not send you into a panic when it wakes
you up. It does so by gradually brightening a clock
face, giving you enough time to get accustomed to
your new state before the alarm goes off. But that
is not all. Unlike the same type of alarm clock from
Phillips without Google assistant, Lenovo Smart
Clock is connected to Google Assistant, which
enables you to give different tasks and instructions
to the clock. This very portable and stylish Lenovo
Smart Clock has a price tag of $79.99.
Are you a motorcycle fan or addict? Or do you enjoy motorcycling
at the same time, care for the environment? Well, if you fit any of
the above, Harley-Davidson has a new invention for you. The latest
Harley-Davidson’s LiveWire, an all-electric motorcycle, which is
expected to hit the market in August 2019 comes without a clutch
or gear-shifting to accelerate. This first in a new generation of
a motorcycle has elevated Harley-Davidson‘s position amongst
motorcycle manufacturers, as well as demonstrated the company’s
enviable response to the environmental challenges facing the world.
With the starting price of $29,799, Harley-Davidson tries to use the
LiveWire to attract a new group of motorcycle riders, who does not
only appreciate a clean environment but equally a quiet machine for
an urban street.

Music
TRIBUTE TO
DJ AVICII
PRODUCER
MUSICIAN
Written by Tedman Oscar & Arthur Adil
Some music lovers would tell
you that music is insignificant
or incomplete, without
Disk Jockeys (DJs). Throughout
the music advancement, DJs like
David Guetta, DJ Marshmallow,
Calvin Harris and Swedish House
Mafia, have become fundamental
subjects on the rhythmic scene,
raising the bar by playing recorded
popular music.
On the 20 th April
2018, the world
woke up to the
sad news of the
demise of the 28
year old Grammy-nominated
electronic dance
DJ, Avicii.
Tim Bergling, better known by
his stage name Avicii was an international
pop star, performing
his well-known electronic dance
songs around the world for diehard
fans. His illustrate profession
would take him to, sometimes,
hundreds of thousands of music
festivals, where he was the headline
act. His was known for his
popular sounds that sent him to
the top of the charts and earned
him enviable, gigantic airtime.
His most known song, “Wake
Me Up,” was a multi-platinum
triumph and peaked at No. 4 on
Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. On the
dance charts, he had seven Top
10 hits including, including “Hey
Brother” and “Levels”.
Avicii, was not only a two-time
Grammy nominee; he also won
two MTV Europe Music Awards
as well as one Billboard Music
Award. With the overwhelming
talent, he continued to collaborate
with more high-profile acts,
producing Coldplay sensations,
“A Sky Full of Stars”, “Hymn for
the Weekend”, Madonna’s “Devil
Pray” and partly tagged in the
Mike Posner’s megahit “I Took a

Pill in Ibiza,” which featured the
lyrics: “I took a pill in Ibiza, to
show Avicii I was cool.” This was
a hint of the Mike Posner’s true
story at an Avicii concert in Ibiza.
At the age of 18, Avicii had started
his musical tour; and from
that point on, fame had infiltrated
his life with non-stop concerts
around the world. “When I look
back on my life, I think; wow! did I
do that? It was the best time of my
life in a sense. It came with a price
- a lot of stress a lot of anxiety for
me - but it was the best journey of
my life.”
Avicii told The Hollywood Reporter
in 2016. One thing is to
acquire fame, another is to maintain
it. Like many celebrities before
him, Avicii allowed his fame
to control him. Gradually, excessive
drinking became the order
of the day. This bad habit led to
him being diagnosed with acute
pancreatitis. After having his gallbladder
and appendix removed
in 2014, he cancelled a series of
shows in an attempt to recover.
He announced his retirement
from the road two years later in
2016. However, he continued to
produce songs and albums for the
fans. But his numerous and dedicated
fans around the world could
not enjoy the talented of the outstanding
artist for long.
On 20 th of April 2018, the world
was stunned by the demise of
DJ Avicii at the ripe age of 28 in
Muscat, the capital of Oman, a
popular vacation destination on
the Arabian Sea. Sadly, DJ Avicii
died just a few days after he was
nominated for a 2018 Billboard
Music Award for top dance/electronic
album for his EP.
Although, DJ Avicii may have
gone from our eyes, his immortal
symphonies will continue to entertain
our next generation. For
sure, we will continue to admire
him and his music – even in his
absence.
“We are grateful that we got to
know him and admired him as an
artist and the great person he was.”
Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip and
Princess Sofia , who employed
Avicii to play at their wedding,
said about his demise. They definitely,
cannot put the feelings of
Avicii’s millions of fans worldwide
in a better way.

Our 21st century is inseparable from
technological advancement. Although
technology comes with immense
advantages, its challenges cannot be
underestimated, as well. Interpersonal
interaction has been affected greatly
by technological gadgets, which have
effectively addicted many children,
making them, virtually become a zombie
to their electronic devices. That comes
at a price. Naturally, human beings are
instinctively drawn towards their natural
surroundings, however, presently, many
kids spend a greater part of their time
indoors on a couch in front of a screen
or with electronic gadgets in their hands
rather than outdoors. This helpless
succumb to the screen has led to what
some call Nature deficit disorder (NDD).
The latest research in the USA has shown
an alarming result: most children in the
USA spent a mere 4-7 minutes a day
outside and hugely, 7 hours, addicted to
their screen. The result cannot be more
worrisome.
While some parents may attribute
encouraging their children to spend a
good amount of their time indoors to
fear of contracting diseases outside, many
medical and social research works have
repeatedly pointed out the enormous
advantages of exposing children to
outdoor activities. It is not only socially
www.katakata.org
advantageous for children to spend much
of their time outside with other children,
taking a walk in the woods is medically
healthy for them as well. For those parents
who still doubt the advantages of having
their children outside than encouraging
them to become slaves to electronic
gadgets, read further.
Happy children, happy family:
Recent research works constantly show
that children and adults who are exposed
to outside environment are happier,
smarter, more social, healthier and less
anxious than those who bury their heads
in front of the screen most of the time.
Ecologically speaking, human beings are
meant for their natural environment,
hence being close to nature explains,
perhaps the above results.
Responsibility and
leadership. Inculcating the spirit of
responsibility and leadership on children
starts with making them be conscious
of their natural environment. Our lives
depend on the sustenance of our natural
environment; once children are made to
understand that a simple act like giving
water to a plant or taking care of a garden
benefits them and other members of the
eco-system, directly and indirectly, they
would transcend that responsibility to a

human level. That consciousness is the
beginning of responsibility and good
leadership.
Creativity. Allowing kids to interact
meaningfully with their natural
surroundings, brings out the creativity in
them. Not just about thinking freely on
their own, they can involve in different
activities that can encourage them to
appreciate and see their environment
differently and approach the world in
highly inventive perspectives.
Close to nature and selfconfidence.
Giving your child that
freedom to be free with their environment
builds self-confidence in your child.
From playing on the grass, jumping
over the neighbour’s fence, to walking in
the woods, children feel confident that
they are not only part of their natural
environment, they assume confidently that
they can survive there. They learn new
things, how things around them and their
nature co-exist and survive. This gives
children enormous confidence, power
and control over their actions within their
environment.
Natural stimulation. Yes, your child
might become a slave to their screen,
but that stimulation might not be as
powerful as what nature can provide.
The more time kids spend in nature,
seeing, hearing, touching, feeling their
outdoor environment, the more their
senses are activated and enrich the human
experience.
Appreciation of nature. That
closeness to the outside environment helps
a child to understand the nature around
them. More than that, it, equally, enables
a child to think deeper and appreciate the
importance of their nature and the life it
supports.
Good health. Often when one is sick
in Europe, doctors recommend a simple
therapy like taking a walk in nature or
woods, going outside and having some
fresh air etc. All these acts are a natural
cure for human illnesses. The fresh air
is incredibly healthy and indeed, vital
for human survival. Interacting with
your child’s natural environment is more
healthy than adding poisonous chemicals
to their body in the form of medicines.
No to fatigue and stress. Continuous
movement helps against fatigue and stress
by forcing one to ignore distractions,
which can exhaust the brains. Rather
than getting tired and stressed up easily
while in nature, we turn our attention into
an effortless soft fascination that creates
feelings of pleasure, not fatigue.
The answer to obesity. Numerous
research results have pointed out that
physical movement like walking, running,
jumping helps to burn your calories and
stimulate your body metabolism. You are
not just reducing your weight, but you
are equally fighting other diseases; so why
would you prefer your child to get married
to the screen rather than enjoy the nature
and other wonderful things it offers?
Live longer. Has it occurred to you why
those who live close to their nature enjoy
a longer life? Take a look at the Japanese
and other people who pay much attention
to the interaction with the outside
environment live much longer than
others. There is no doubt that the outside
environment helps protect and prolong
one’s life.
Which other reason do you have as
a parent not to stimulate your kid to
enjoy the free nature and be part of the
environment where they live? Yes, it is
important to catch up with technological
development, but doing so should never
make one a slave to the technology itself,
nor mortgage one’s health.

Destinations & Travel
Making The Right
Decisions Before Any Trip
By Tedman Oscar & Rosemary
When the time comes and the long holidays are almost here, you need to start making your
travel plans; the search for where to relax and blow off some steam is on. Most preferred
places of destination have attractive packages to your interest, and we help you know how to
maximise your holiday budget, get the best flight deals and save money.
Whether you are booking
flights and hotels or
simply planning a
road trip home for the
holiday, early planning can save you
lots of hassles and some money as well.
Here are a few things to consider as you
plan your travel.
Book now, always research travel
plans thoroughly before booking
anything. However, at times, this
strategy can be a mistake, but the result
of procrastinating is that prices tend to
go up in the interim while you decide.
Cancellation possibility:
Book cancellable and refundable
reservations as soon as you know where
you intend to go. This will help you a
lot in case you, for whatever reason,
want to change your mind or choice.
Or you are confronted with unforeseen
circumstances.
Choose the right flights
and early enough. It might
not turn out the least expensive rate,
but travellers will find what they are
looking for at a smaller premium than
those who wait until the last minute
to book their flight. Research and
compare alternative airports near your
destination instead of the major ones in
order to find inexpensive flights.
Fly on the actual holiday:
Fares are usually cheaper, especially if
you pick off the least taken destinations.
Ensure to check with your preferred
airline about blackout dates if you plan
to use miles. Using alternative airports
could save you much.
Weekday: Sometimes, travelling on
a weekday rather than a weekend can
be a trick towards saving money. The
price difference can be unexpectedly
much.
Buy travel insurance:
It allows travellers to cancel their trips if
necessary. This could do the trick if you
book a flight or hotel for holidays and
then find them for a lower price later
on, You can cancel your trip and book
them at the new price.
Make a wise choice: When
is the high or low season? Bear this
in mind when you choose your
destination. This will help you find
the best and cheapest deals, having in
mind that prices are higher during high
seasons .
Do cost comparisons, always
use comparison websites to compare
prices across all airlines, and if you
find a good rate do call and find out
if they will be able to match it. flight
search engines like Skyscanner, Gate1,
Budgetair can surprisingly offer great
deals.
Car Rental: Save on rental cars,
the more rental cars a company has
available the lower the rental price will
be, so book cars in advance to get the
best deal possible.
Beware of hidden costs.
Some travelling agents and airlines
hide their total price. Sometimes, you
only see the hidden price at the point of
payment. Make sure you don’t fall into
this trap. Beware of low-cost airlines
when it comes to hidden costs.
Do not forget your
health insurance, which is
very important in case of sickness or
accident abroad. Many travelling agents
offer cheap health insurance coverage,
so buying such insurance together with
your flight ticket can save you a lot
of money and unexpected headache.
Please make sure you contact your
regular health insurance company and
inquire whether yours covers intended
vacation destination. Otherwise,
buy this extra health insurance from
travelling agents before you leave for
your holidays.
With these few tips, I am positive you
will get yourself a good getaway deal
and enjoy your holidays wherever you
decide to go. Bon voyage!

Ask Aunt Silvia
Dear Aunt Silvia,
I am having serious family problems
with my husband over our 16-year old
daughter.
Thank you for your attention.
I am having serious family
problems with my husband
over our 16-year old
daughter. She is very brilliant,
academically and her greatest
wish is to study and become
an engineer, but my husband
thinks she should marry early
and start a family, according to
our tradition. In fact, I heard
from his family source that
he is in a discussion with a
potential groom to marry our
daughter. Since our daughter
got a hint of this development,
she has been very sad and
this has clearly affected her
performance in school. Please,
I need your advice.
Akong
(Bor, South Sudan)
socially, psychological) to her
husband. She will not need to
carry a chain on the neck to
prove her slavery condition.
In many third world countries,
where poverty prevents
families from offering
qualitative education to
their children, every parent
who can afford to send their
children to school should
not only be praised, but they
must be equally proud of such
an achievement. I am more
worried about your daughter
because in the event where
children are denied education,
in most cases, girls suffer most.
These girls have no choice
than to be forced into an
unwanted and loveless child
marriage.
Relationship Quotes
“Whenever you’re
in conflict with
someone, there is
one factor that can
make the difference
between damaging
your relationship and
deepening it. That
factor is attitude.”
― William James
“When dealing with
people, remember
you are not dealing
with creatures of
logic, but creatures of
emotion.”
― Dale Carnegie
“Let us be grateful
to the people who
make us happy; they
are the charming
gardeners who make
our souls blossom.”
– Marcel Proust
Dear Akong,
Thank you so much for your
mail. I can fully understand
your worries because
personally, I know education
is power. It is the best weapon
you can give to a child to fight
for their future. Irrespective
of your religion or culture, by
discouraging your daughter
to go to school, your husband
is sacrificing her happiness,
health, and future. Worse still,
he is indirectly making her
a future slave (economically,
I am more
worried about
your daughter
because in
the event
where children
are denied
education, in
most cases,
girls suffer
most.”
Yes, in most cases, tradition
encourages men to take care
of their new wives, but that
makes the young married
girls even more vulnerable.
Their new husbands often
treat them as their properties
without rights. I am not trying
to scare you, but I can assure
you that after the loveless
marriage, your daughter’s
dream will be shattered and
her life aspirations completely
disoriented.
To many parents, giving away
their daughter in marriage
brings economic benefits
to the family in terms of
dowry, but that equally nails
the life and future of the
girl in question. Most of the
child brides are exposed to
aggressive domestic and sexual
exploitation and violence
in the hands of their new
husbands. The newly married
girls are turned into sex slaves,
who are expected to produce
many children. Sadly, they
might die in the process of
manufacturing children like
incubator machine. For sure,
due to their youthful nature,
your girl could face maternal
mortality and other medical
dangers associated with early
birth.
I suggest you explain all these
to your husband. Let him
know the danger he might
subject his daughter to, by
way of early marriage. I am
happy your daughter knows
what she wants in life and
that she’s determined to make
a career in life. Convince
your husband to give her this
opportunity. Definitely, by so
doing, you both are creating
great education and social
opportunities for her, which
you as parents will surely
benefit from. Good luck!
Yours,
Aunt Silvia
