The old and the new classics
Danish jewelry design has a long and proud tradition of
peerless art craft by hand. For more than a hundred years
Danish designers have created unique Scandinavian quality
and beauty to all over the world.
Several pieces have become modern day classics and will
never become unfashionable. Still the traditional and esteemed
goldsmiths do not dwell on the past. They have embraced
the present and let time and trends influence their
work. But the unique personality and supreme quality of
the brands remain intact.
And this is how you create new classics.
According to Christoffer Ritzau this is also the key to success
for Danish jewelry designers. The customer will be
amazed by new designs but will at the same time know
what to expect:
“They have strong concepts. The jewelry is created from
simple ideas, which makes the customer return for the next
collection.”
Georg Jensen – traditional jewelry with a new touch
One of the grand old men in the jewelry boxing ring is Georg
Jensen.
The story of the luxury brand Georg Jensen started more
than a hundred years ago, and rather quickly the designs
of the young sculptor and silversmith grew into a global attraction.
At his death in 1935, Georg Jensen had stores in
Paris, London, Berlin and New York.
”Silver has this wonderful moonlight glow– a bit of light
from the Danish summer night,” he said about his passion
for working with silver.
His timeless, aesthetic Nordic style and creative visions
have become the inspiration of many designers throughout
the world ever since.
Today Georg Jensen design is still breathtaking silver and
timeless classics like the beloved daisy. But it is also much
more than that. It is the perfect meeting of innovation and
history.
This is the case of the two year old Moonlight Collection,
where iconic motifs from famous Georg Jensen pieces from
the past get a modern twist and become both historical and
contemporary at once.
This reunion of vintage and modern design is also the influence
of the latest collection, The Smitty Cuffs, which consists
of three retro-romantic arm cuffs combining minimalism
and bohemia for the modern woman.
Mini versions of the Lynggaard-classics
Another grand old man in Danish jewelry fashion is Ole
Lynggaard. The trendsetting family business goes back almost
50 years.
In 1979 Ole Lynggaard invented a unique flexible lock system
which at the same time became a part of the jewelry
and not only a practical measure. This invention meant that
the buying customer was now able to create her own personal
piece of jewelry and change the look whenever she
felt like it.
The lock system is still used today and plays a great part in
the concept of jewelry at Ole Lynggaard. The use of charms
and combinations of jewelry that can be put on and removed
with a simple click invites the customer to be creative
and design her own unique piece of Ole Lynggaard
jewelry.
My Little World is a new collection with 25 different charms
which are all mini versions of already existing famous
Lynggaard designs.
The reinvention of the classics claims the traditional and
the contemporary at once.
