UNDER THE ABAYA:
STREET STYLE FROM SAUDI ARABIA
The 2nd edition of the Saudi street style book .
Coinciding with the second anniversary of the landmark decision to allow women to drive in
Saudi Arabia, - Saudi entrepreneur and industry leader, Marriam Mossalli, released the
second edition of her book: Under The Abaya: Streetstyle From Saudi Arabia, a window
into the unique regional fashion scene and more importantly, the women who wear it. A
nonprofit initiative, all the sales of the book go toward higher education scholarships for
underprivileged Saudi women. Saudi’s first female Ambassador to the United States, HRH
Princess Reema Bint Bandar Al Saud, authored the foreword of the book as she continues
to be an inspiration and driving force behind the women empowerment movement within
the KingdomW“I thought what better day to launch our book, than the anniversary of this
historic move toward gender equality,” stated Mossalli. “Under the Abaya is a celebration
of women empowerment in its purest form: as it allows the women of Saudi the opportunity
to narrate their own stories through authentic representations of themselves.”
“Under the Abaya encapsulates a desire to tell stories, and access or create opportunities.
The project’s principles are an example of women supporting women,” writes HRH Princess
Reema Bint Bandar Al Saud.
While the first edition was an introduction to the progressive Saudi woman, the second
edition delves deeper, exposing their challenges and aspirations. With the progressive
future that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia envisions for women, from lifting their ban in
driving to providing more opportunities in the workforce, the book tells the journey of the
women of the Kingdom at the forefront of this change.
Lux, one of Unilever’s largest beauty and personal care brands whose values and mission
is aligned with that of “Under The Abaya”, is the proud exclusive sponsor of the book.
“LUX is honored to partner with “Under the Abaya” to shine a spotlight on inspiring Saudi
women who have bravely stepped into the spotlight to show the world that they are
much more than their looks,” said Severine Vauleon, Global Brand VP, LUX - Unilever.
