ORS Italy and Spain –‘Challenges in southern Europe’Success in bidding processesAfter taking part in nine bidding processes inthe regions of Lombardy, Friuli and Sardiniain 2019, we saw off the competition and wereawarded the contracts for a repatriation centrein Macomer, Sardinia and a reception centre inMonastir, Sardinia, both of which will open atthe beginning of 2020.Networking and positioningGood connections with decision makers ingovernment, business and society are helpingus to position ORS as the service provider forasylum-related support and accommodationroles. We are particularly grateful for the networkingassistance offered by the Swiss Hubin Milan and the Swiss embassy in Rome. Insummer 2019, the Swiss embassy invited us tovisit and share our thoughts on internationalrefugee issues.ORS founds new national organisationin SpainIn summer 2019, we expanded our commitmentsin southern Europe. The foundation ofORS Spain signals our intention to support theauthorities on the Iberian peninsula in dealingwith the flow of refugees. We were able to drawon our experiences in Italy when setting upORS in Spain.Public perceptionWith the increasingly public positioning of ORSin Italy, media interest is growing. ORS is regularlymentioned in the media. We are intensifyingour networking efforts and showcasing ourwork in order to build trust in our services becausethis is the measure of our success.23
