ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Much of the early history of the game was lost when the English Table Tennis
Association’s Office and all its records were destroyed by bombing in September
1940. Since then great efforts have been made to retrieve the missing information
from personal records and reports in contemporary newspapers and magazines,
particularly by people such as Gerald Gurney, author of “Table Tennis - The Early
Years” and Alan Duke and Steve Grant, whose research has been published from
time to time in “The Table Tennis Collector”. The account makes use of these
sources, which are gratefully acknowledged.
