As Grant County’s largest employer, General
Motors’ Marion Metal Center plays a key role
in the region’s economic health. Its mission
statement is “People Working Together To
Secure Our Future.” The plant has helped provide
a solid future to thousands of families since
being built in 1955 as an automotive stamping
facility by Fisher Body.
Today, more than 1000 employees work at
the plant, bringing a wealth of knowledge and
revenue to the Marion community. Marion
Metal Center runs three shifts producing
metal stampings and blanks for a number of
GM manufacturing facilities throughout North
America. In addition, our plant participates in
local economic development, educational and
charitable initiatives.
The plant sits on 187 acres with 2.758 million
square feet under roof. Hourly employees are
represented by Local 977 UAW. In 2018, Marion
Metal Center paid $102 million in wages and
$22 million in payroll taxes, providing a huge

Wiley Metal is a third generation metal
fabrication company that calls Indiana home.
Our Midwestern ethics and attitude play a big
part of who we are and why we are committed
to staying in Grant County!
Wiley Metal was started in 1982 by Verne
Wiley, who had years of experience in the steel
fabrication business. He was shortly joined
by son’s Ed and Rob, who now serve as the
company’s president and vice president. They
have since been joined by Ed’s sons Mike
and Ben.
We have grown through the years by
providing over 100,000+ quality fabricated
metal products that carry a family name
to it. Meaning if we put our name on it, we
believe in it! This type of quality has resulted
in a growing list of valued customers. Today,
they have a total of 57 different customers.
In 2008, the company took a big step in
pursuing a diversification growth strategy
within the metal fabricating marketplace. The
company expanded with the addition of Avionic
Structures Inc. (ASI). They have also had the
opportunity to help start companies in town
such as Zivelo.
The company has not only been fortunate to
have a terrific and loyal customer base, but
they have also been honored through the
years with numerous awards. They were
recognized by Wabash National Corporation
with their Platinum Award. The award was
given for Wiley Metal’s excellence in supply
chain performance delivery, quality, cost and
innovation. The organization continues to win
awards annually.
Wiley Metal is an OEM supplier, member of
the local Manufactures Association, member
of the Chamber of Commerce, member of the
Fabricators Manufactures Association, member
of Nuts Bolts & Thingamajigs, and a strong
supporter of Manufacturing Day, an annual
event that celebrates manufacturing in the
United States at the Marion Public Library.
They take pride in creating a variety of different
manufacturing jobs that require many different
skill levels in their county with employing
170 people currently in their three different
locations, while also providing internships for
our local high school seniors and students at
local universities.
