Celebration is the underlying heartbeat of the <strong>Mary</strong> <strong>Kay</strong> world, <strong>and</strong> nowhere more than Seminar<br />

do we feel its pulse. Each annual occasion brings an outpouring of appreciation unlike anything<br />

anywhere in the world, where amazing accomplishments <strong>and</strong> incomparable sisterhood give birth<br />

to new dreams of undreamed-of-excellence. This year at the Dallas Shine-On! Seminar, <strong>Mary</strong><br />

<strong>Kay</strong> Malaysia was represented by a group of dynamic Independent Sales Directors to attend<br />

this spectacular event early in July. These achievers participated through learning, sharing <strong>and</strong><br />

recognition; moments that capture the vision of one woman - <strong>Mary</strong> <strong>Kay</strong> Ash. They caught that<br />

spark <strong>and</strong> would ignite into a winning spirit for all to follow.<br />

Searching for great ideas on how to sell <strong>and</strong> wrap up earnings for yourself <strong>and</strong> your Unit?<br />

Here are some techniques that have proved positive for some US Independent Sales Directors:<br />

SD Lori Seary glues flyers announcing a sale at her<br />

home onto small paper bags <strong>and</strong> mails them to her<br />

customers—25 at a time. The flyer advertises a oneday-only<br />

event at which any <strong>Mary</strong> <strong>Kay</strong> ® products<br />

customers can “cram, jam, push or squeeze” into that<br />

bag will be a certain percent off. The flyer explains<br />

that the sale is limited to in-stock items only <strong>and</strong><br />

that no special orders are accepted. She follows<br />

up with everyone before the event, filling orders<br />

by phone for those who can’t attend. Lori says,<br />

“I hold several of these events in my home<br />

at different times so that I can include all my<br />

customers.”<br />

SD LORI SEARY<br />

SD Sherry Hanes urges her Unit members to begin each<br />

month by setting a plan in order to achieve their goals. To<br />

help with this, she asks everyone, “Are you wearing your<br />

<strong>Mary</strong> <strong>Kay</strong> logo pin each time you leave home? You never<br />

know when someone will ask about your business as a result of<br />

seeing your <strong>Mary</strong> <strong>Kay</strong> logo pin.”<br />

ESSD Barbara Ashworth poses this<br />

question to her Unit members, “Going<br />

to visit family during the holidays or on<br />

vacation?” She recommends that they<br />

take along a bag complete with a tray<br />

<strong>and</strong> mirror, <strong>and</strong> some demonstration<br />

brushes. Barbara says, “Always be<br />

ready! You never know when selling<br />

or booking prospects may come into<br />

your life, even when you’re away<br />

from home.”<br />

SSD Teresa Gregory offers an “I Appreciate You” gift bag. She<br />

fills a cellophane bag with various product samples, a copy of<br />

The Look along with a business card <strong>and</strong> ties it with a fluffy,<br />

netted bow. She also attaches a note that says, “Thanks from<br />

me to you.” Teresa prepares 20 to 30 of these bags <strong>and</strong><br />

takes them everywhere. When she h<strong>and</strong>s one to someone,<br />

she says, “I appreciate your service <strong>and</strong> I have something<br />

for you.” She says it’s really a nice way to make someone’s<br />

day <strong>and</strong> perhaps a sale!<br />

SSD TERESA GREGORY<br />

Another idea for <strong>Mary</strong> <strong>Kay</strong> business cards comes from<br />

SSD Debbye Cannon. She says, “Keep your <strong>Mary</strong> <strong>Kay</strong><br />

business cards everywhere! Put them in small plastic<br />

bags <strong>and</strong> be sure those bagged cards are in every<br />

car, h<strong>and</strong>bag <strong>and</strong> all tote bags.” She likes to add<br />

little bits of magnets to the backs of the cards <strong>and</strong><br />

offers one to every sharp prospect who comes<br />

within three feet of her.<br />

Without a doubt the most rewarding aspect of my life is to watch a woman come to the <strong>Mary</strong> <strong>Kay</strong><br />

opportunity like a tight little rosebud, sometimes too inhibited to even tell me who she is, but after six<br />

months of education, praise, encouragement <strong>and</strong> recognition, she blossoms into a poised, beautiful<br />

woman, all because someone helped her reach down within herself <strong>and</strong> bring forth her God-given<br />

“<br />

I began to underst<strong>and</strong> the meaning of having a dream when I joined <strong>Mary</strong> <strong>Kay</strong>.<br />

What really triggered me to have the courage to dream <strong>and</strong> make it happened was<br />

after having attended Leadership Conference 2009 which had launched the tagline<br />

“Think Big, Work Smart, Shine On”. Thanks to the lessons imparted at<br />

Leadership Conference, I began to realize that everything is possible in <strong>Mary</strong> <strong>Kay</strong>.<br />

Every Beauty Consultant in <strong>Mary</strong> <strong>Kay</strong> is taught to have a big dream <strong>and</strong> to make that<br />

dream come true, we must have a plan. We must work the plan by breaking it into<br />

short term <strong>and</strong> long term goals.<br />

Working closely with my sister Beauty Consultants has enabled me to share the<br />

wonderful opportunity <strong>and</strong> enrich more women. We kept on sharing the wonderful<br />

quality products <strong>and</strong> the business opportunity which has led towards the expansion<br />

of our customer base. To build momentum, we organized regular skin care classes<br />

together <strong>and</strong> that led our Unit towards wanting to become a Pink Car Unit. What<br />

began as an individual dream grew into a common dream for everyone as we worked<br />

h<strong>and</strong>-in-h<strong>and</strong> together. To continue becoming more aware <strong>and</strong> keeping the goal alive,<br />

I had it announced regularly in our Newsletter.<br />

Thanks to my journey in <strong>Mary</strong> <strong>Kay</strong>, I learned to lead a group of talented <strong>and</strong> passionate<br />

women who are leading their respective teams. By now, some have successfully<br />

emerged into their own Units. Their passion <strong>and</strong> enthusiasm have motivated me to<br />

enrich more women achieve their dreams. Thank you to the Sparkling Swan Unit<br />

for your commitment <strong>and</strong> support. To Sales Director Norfiza Mahput, Sales Director<br />

with Beauty Consultant goal. By doing this, she will have<br />

a clearer direction towards her goal <strong>and</strong> will feel that her<br />

efforts will support more than just herself.<br />

Cast the vision for the Unit members. See the future<br />

together <strong>and</strong> let them see what they can become as a<br />
