Good Relations Week 2020

Good Relations Week is a fantastic platform to showcase the good work that organisations are doing in our local area in the field of community relations and cultural awareness. This week will celebrate all aspects of our culture and heritage, promoting cultural diversity and tackling sectarianism and racism. It is about inspiring news projects, promoting understanding, respect and engagement between all sections of our community Good Relations Week will run from Monday 14th September until Monday 21st September embracing digital technology and curating a week of innovative, immersive, live, interactive and collaborative events – mostly online The theme this year will be ‘Celebrating Our Journey. Embracing Our Future’. Londonderry Bands Forum will<br />

release a series of podcasts<br />

throughout the week looking at<br />

the work of the group over the<br />

last few years. It will feature our<br />

education and outreach work, our<br />

work during lockdown, our cross<br />

community work, interviews with<br />

Band members and much more.<br />

WNP will organise 3 workshops<br />

for young people aged 13 + to<br />

work with poets to discuss their<br />

ideas and hope for the future of<br />

Derry, the changes they want to<br />

see and how to increase the use<br />

of shared spaces within the City.<br />

This will culminate in a series of<br />

short powerful messages that will<br />

be sketched onto badges to be<br />

distributed throughout the City on<br />

Culture Night.<br />

Verbal’s Reading Rooms<br />

programme uses the power of<br />

storytelling to help people create<br />

new connections, express their<br />

feelings and learn more about<br />

the feelings of the people around<br />

them. Participants will take part in<br />

an online session using Zoom or by<br />

phone using a Freephone number.<br />

This project is called ‘Shared Heritage<br />

On Your Doorstep’. It will enable<br />

people of all ages to gain access<br />

to Creggan Country Park from the<br />

comfort of their own homes. Creggan<br />

Country Park will be delivered in<br />

a series of 4 virtual workshops<br />

looking at different aspects of the<br />

Park, showcasing its rich history and<br />

promoting an increased sense of<br />

community belonging. These virtual<br />

workshops will be promoted on<br />

Creggan Country Park’s social media<br />

pages.<br />

CALMS events for <strong>Good</strong> <strong>Relations</strong><br />

<strong>Week</strong> will consist of a live music<br />

performance on the Thursday night<br />

and a live Choir performance on the<br />

Friday night. Each event will be live<br />

streamed on our social media in order<br />

to reach our online audience. These<br />

performances will be the finale of 4<br />

workshops with young people looking<br />

at good relations, mental health and<br />

emotional well-being.<br />

Culmore Community Partnership will<br />

be hosting a vibrant event celebrating<br />

cultural diversity in our area. Join us<br />

celebration of dance, music, discussion,<br />

Peace Walls will host a short<br />

online film based on pre-recorded<br />

interviews with BAME residents<br />

in the City. BBI and the Peace<br />

Walls project have a wide variety<br />

of BAME groups and networks<br />

(Chinese, Indian, Filipino, Syrian,<br />

Bangladeshi, Japanese, African<br />

and Polish) and have been a key<br />

organisation in BAME engagement<br />

in the last few years through Mela<br />

events and cultural workshops.<br />

This pre-recorded film will be<br />

shown online for <strong>Good</strong> <strong>Relations</strong><br />

<strong>Week</strong> and shared via the website<br />

and social media platforms.<br />

‘Celebrating Communities’ – our<br />

short video will highlight the<br />

shared experiences of residents<br />

from both the CNR and PUL<br />

communities growing up within the<br />

Triax area. This will give an insight<br />

into how attitudes have changed<br />

over time with residents from both<br />

sides of the Peace Wall coming<br />

together to embrace each other’s<br />

cultures. The film will be shown<br />

online for <strong>Good</strong> <strong>Relations</strong> <strong>Week</strong><br />

and shared via the website and<br />

social media platforms.<br />

These are pre-recorded interviews<br />

with people from the Indian<br />

community and their experiences<br />

of relocating to Derry ~<br />

5 professional workshops to show<br />

case the work that young people<br />

have done during their classes in<br />

lock-down. We hope that these<br />

workshops will inspire our dancers<br />

and others to continue towards<br />
