an already exhilarating ride. I also learnt
that naked bikes can be the perfect companion
out on the open road, and that
they really are a perfect blend of sport
and touring in many ways. I learnt that
the ZH2 needs your full attention and
respect to be fully appreciated and enjoyed,
and that supercharged power is
ridiculously fast! I learnt that there is another
side to motorcycling other than
just flat out sportbike thrashing, and that
it’s ok to get a little dirty now and then.
But most of all, I learnt what riding motorcycles
in this beautiful country is all
about; it’s about freedom, it’s about expression,
it’s about forgetting all your
worries and your gripes, and just focus
on living. It’s about spending time
with great friends, in great environments,
on great motorcycles more
often and not letting this crazy world
we live in corrupt you and bring you
down. It’s about getting out there and
living, exploring, enjoying life as much
as possible. I did just that on this trip
and I will never forget this experience
for as long as I’m around. One thing is
for sure, I will be back in George sooner
rather than later, and hopefully on
some amazing machines, with amazing
people once again. The only thing
missing on this trip was my family,
who will definitely be coming along
next time around.

the 1100 Special equipped with top box
and all, along with big smiles and no
aches or pains from the long ride.
We arrived in Knysna and after a nice
lunch hopped back on the bikes and
headed back on the blissful tar roads
back to George. The Garden Route as it’s
called really is a beautiful place to ride a
motorcycle! A few stops along the way to
take in some sights before getting back
to Fancourt all in one piece, another great
day in Africa!
We made it back just in time as the
heavens opened up literally as we rode
the bikes into the garage. I saw it as the
perfect way to end off another delightful
day riding some great motorcycles with
some great people.
Overall, I learnt many things on this
trip. I learnt that Ducati sportbikes can
translate well to road riding, and that sea
level air really does help get the best out
