Access to Information
NKU
Our library on Değirmenaltı Campus is situated
on a 743 m 2 area and holds 30.000 books in print and
55.000 books in electronic form, in addition to 300
printed and 35.000 electronic journals. There is access
to 41 full-text and bibliographical material databases
provided by ULAKBİM. Owing to memberships for
search engines, all databases can be browsed. We have
wireless internet network and a computer area in the
library to ease access to these databases. In addition,
users can reserve books online, extend the check in
dates, and request books via our website.

Our library is a member of national and international
organizations, such as ANKOS (Anadolu University
Libraries Consortium), ULAKBİM EKUAL (Electronic
Resources National Academic Licence), BLU
(Balkan Libraries Union), TO-KAT (National Collective
Catalogue), and TÜBESS (Turkish Document
Provision System).
Our students are served on the highest level with regard
to information technologies background. Students
can access online information about their course registration,
curriculum, and examination results. Also, our
academic staff can present their course notes online.
Research Opportunities
Concerning scientific research and projects, all faculties,
vocational schools, and institutes at Namık Kemal
University are coordinated by BAP (Scientific Research
Project Office).
The University administration holds scientific advancement
in high esteem and attempts to provide all
the necessary support for scientific research.
Graduate studies and research projects are supported
by scientific research project units in our university.
In addition, a related commission is in charge of cooperation
between University and the Ministry of Industry
and Trade, as well as of Industry Theses Program
with industrial establishments. The financial process
for projects supported by TÜBİTAK is overseen by the
aforementioned commission.
Foreign Language Teaching
NKU
Since 2009, in addition to the foreign language departments,
our University provides the teaching of
foreign languages in preparatory classes on international
standards. The School of Foreign Languages
is in charge of the preparatory education and aims at
providing students with the proficiency in compliance
with Common European Framework of Reference for
Languages standards.
Integration into Business World
We cooperate with the industrialists, universities,
and research institutions at the newly established
Teknopark, and by this we support the country’s industry
to become competitive and based on export.
Teknopark is situated on Tekirdağ Central Campus as
TGB-1 and at Çorlu Faculty of Engineering as TGB-2.
TEKMER (Technological Advancement Centre)
came into effect to support cooperation between businesses
and entrepreneurs, research and development,
projects on innovation and industrial application jointly
by KOSGEB – Namık Kemal University Rector’s
Office, Thrace Progress Agency, Tekirdağ Chamber of
Industry and Commerce, Çorlu Chamber of Industry
and Commerce, and Çerkezköy Chamber of Industry
and Commerce.
International Cooperation
Namık Kemal University has signed cooperation
protocols with 19 higher education institutions in 11
countries, including Italy, Austria, Macedonia, USA,
Greece, Bulgaria, France, Romania, Russia, Germany,
and the Netherlands.
Our University holds since 2007 a prestigious position
in the international forum for higher education
institutions through its full membership in European
Universities Association (EUA). The University was
also awarded the label of Diploma Supplement in 2011.

Erasmus Programme
Namık Kemal University became a member of the
large family of the Lifelong Learning ERASMUS Programme
in the 2007-2008 academic year. Since then,
163 students and 68 academic and administrative staff
have benefited from ERASMUS Exchange Programme
in matters of studying, teaching and training at various
European higher education institutions. Also, many European
students and academicians have visited our university
to share their knowledge and experience.
In addition, as part of Erasmus Programme, our university
has 71 bilateral agreements with 57 universities
from 14 countries, including Bulgaria, Czech Republic,
France, Germany, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Spain,
Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia,
and Greece.

Farabi Exchange Programme
Exchange programmes among Turkish universities
are also in effect at our University, which enable students
to continue their education and academic staff to
embark on teaching activities in other higher education
institutions in our country. Applications are accepted
during the announcement period, and the call for applications
as determined by the protocols is announced
on the Farabi Exchange Programme website once every
semester. Until now, our university has signed bilateral
agreements in this respect with 17 universities.
Social Life
NKU
You can find a campus network designed to establish
social life that contributes to academic and cultural activities
in our university. Only in 2011, the university
organized more than 250 cultural, artistic and sports
events. Our university undertakes also the organization
of conferences, discussions, exhibitions, theatre, music,
dance, etc. on national and international platforms.

Catering on Campus
Lunch and dinner, prepared and planned by specialist
dieticians and food engineers, are served in a healthy,
orderly manner under hygienic conditions at the canteen
on campus with the purpose of meeting the nutrition
needs of our students and employees.
The food which is prepared at the central canteen
on Değirmenaltı campus is served to Tekirdağ Faculties
and Vocational Schools.
Health Services
The University Research and Clinical Hospital
serves the public and the students with its experienced
team of doctors and advanced technological equipment
in order to uplift the social life quality and contribute to
the advancement of medicine.
Exchange students are advised to buy a health insurance
package which covers their health expenses that
may incur during their study in Turkey.
Accommodation Opportunities
NKU
In addition to many private dormitories in Tekirdağ,
the dormitories belonging to Credit and Dormitories
Agency provide for most of the accommodational needs
of the students. We have a certain capacity reserved for
international students at the public dormitory. Prices of
these accomodations are relatively lower than those in
many European countries.
Sports Centre
Our experienced trainers offer fitness and Pilates activities,
and Latin and traditional dancing classes at our
indoor sports centre to enrich the lives of Namık Kemal
University students and staff, to improve their physical
condition, and to contribute to their general welfare.
The sports and recreational facilities which are offered
to our students and staff correspond to a hygienic and
healthy environment. In the 2011-2012 academic year
our sports centre has enriched its offerings with a new
swimming pool, sauna, squash, Finnish bath, and running
tracks.

Student Club Activities
NKU
Our university places great importance on the physical
and psychological development of our students, as
well as on those cultural and sports activities which help
improve their condition. In this respect, our university
organizes free of charge cultural and sports classes.
The aim of the Health, Culture, and Sports
Department at Namık Kemal University is to sustain
the physical and mental health of the students, help
them spend their free time in accordance with their
hobbies, introduce them to new activities, give them the
opportunity to improve their talents and character in a
healthy manner through a number of facilities, and finally,
in addition to recreation and entertainment, assist
them in acquiring the habit of working together with
discipline and responsibility.
Under the supervision of our trainers with expertise
in their respective areas, students are encouraged
to attend the classes which are determined according
to their requests and are provided free of charge in our
cultural and sports educational centres.

International Students
Namık Kemal University is one of the most dynamic
among the newly accredited universities in Turkey, providing
higher education of high quality standards of a
relatively low cost. In this respect, one of our primary
tasks is to operate on an international level.
We welcome international students to join our comprehensive
curriculum which includes more than 165
undergraduate, master, doctoral, post-doctoral and lifelong
education programmes of study. Especially attractive
is the offer of the Institute of Natural and Applied
Sciences for graduate studies, which includes such master
and doctoral programmes as Biology, Environmental
Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Electronics and
Communication, Agricultural Economics, Mechanical
Engineering, Textile Engineering, Plant Protection,
Soil Science, and others. The Institute of Social Sciences
provides master studies in Health Management
as a joint programme of the Faculty of Medicine and
the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.
Also, the Institute of Health Sciences offers a number
of master programmes, namely Anatomy, Medical Biochemistry,
History and Ethics of Medicine, and Cardiovascular
Physiology.
Currently, 158 international students from 14 different
countries study at our University, including Afghanistan,
Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Germany, Morocco,
Iraq, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Lebanon,
Mongolia, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Russia, Turkmenistan
and Greece.
In addition, located in Tekirdağ, an important city
in Easter Thrace in the European part of Turkey, and
just 150 km from Istanbul, Namık Kemal University of-
NKU
fers to students great opportunities for extracurricular
activities.
For master and doctoral studies, the international
students are invited to apply by accessing the University
web site www.nku.edu.tr, the corresponding to particular
Institute web site, or contact by phone or e-mail the
administration of the Institutes.
For undergraduate and associate studies, the international
students are invited to apply for studies at NKU
by accessing the University web site www.nku.edu.tr to
find detailed information on the latest valid application
procedure and then by filling in the particular form
which is provided by NKU Office of Student Affairs
for relevant academic year. Original application forms
must be submitted to the aforementioned Office by
hand or by postal mail.
Cost of Living
Estimated living expenses for all international students
are around 250-350 Euros per month, including
accomodation and other personal expenses.
Visa
Students from certain countries must obtain a valid
student visa from the nearest Turkish Consulate in their
country. They should make sure that there is enough
time for the Embassy/Consulate staff to issue visas.
The passport expiry date should be later than the
departure date until which a person intends to stay in
Turkey.
This visa is required for registration at the University
and must be obtained before entering Turkey.
