MEDICALLY VULNERABLE STUDENTS
We believe that every child that attends Overbrook School is of infinite worth and value. Understandably, a key concern
is whether certain populations of students, teachers, and other employees may be at increased risk of infection and
severe disease by attending school in person.
Unfortunately, there is no validated data on how much risk these individuals incur by attending school in person, and
individuals will need to make the decision to attend in close consultation with their healthcare provider.
OVERBROOK SCHOOL IS COMMITTED TO:
Working with individual students on a case-by-case basis to offer remote learning as an option for high-risk students.
Providing equitable opportunities for educating those affected by COVID-19, remote learning will be primarily if not
exclusively by Overbrook’s Remote Synchronous Learning Option. See below for more details.
OVERBROOK’S REMOTE SYNCHRONOUS LEARNING (RSL) OPTION
If a student needs to be out of school for COVID-19 purposes, that student will receive remote synchronous learning of
classes as much as possible. While remote learning cannot supply all of the opportunities of the in-person Overbrook
learning experience, we are committed to working with the parents on a continuing education plan should the need
arise.
The uncertainty of our present situation due to the ongoing pandemic forces us to be prepared to continue our mission
using online learning if our local government officials require students to stay at home.
TO EASE TRANSITIONS WHENEVER POSSIBLE, WE SHARE THE FOLLOWING CHANGES TO OVERBROOK ONLINE:
Updates to Blackbaud, our distance-learning platform,
to increase ease-of-use and capacity
Reducing academic transitions to allow for an easier
online experience while still teaching content
Streaming capabilities within classrooms available
Training teachers to use effective remote learning tools
Training students to use Blackbaud, the parent/student portal
Provide families and students with online guidelines
to implement online learning should the need arise during
the school year
We stay committed to improving faculty and student
proficiency in using the Blackbaud student/parent portal
as well as integrating other applications as appropriate to
enhance the delivery of content for increased student engagement
and diverse assessment opportunities.
