Artists Receive<br />

National<br />

Awards<br />

Each year <strong>Saint</strong> <strong>Xavier</strong>’s talented artists<br />

submit their work for judging in Regional<br />

Scholastic Competition. Over a dozen<br />

students tallied awards in the areas of<br />

writing, painting, sculpture, drawing,<br />

ceramics and glass, photography, digital<br />

art, and film and animation. Three of the<br />

students, Justin Allard, Chip Raque, and<br />

Ian Timothy won a total of five Gold Keys,<br />

the highest distinction. All Gold Key winners<br />

automatically had their winning work<br />

entered into national competition. <strong>Saint</strong><br />

<strong>Xavier</strong> is pleased to announce that Justin<br />

Allard and Ian Timothy were award winners<br />

in the National Scholastic Competition. Ian,<br />

a sophomore, won a Gold Key for Film and<br />

Animation, while Justin, a senior, won a<br />

Silver Key for his creative writing portfolio.<br />

Congratulations to these students.<br />

Regional Gold Key winners were: Ian Timothy, Chip Raque, and Justin Allard. Ian and Justin won awards<br />

at the national competition, as well.<br />

Named <strong>School</strong><br />

Administrator<br />

Earlier this year, <strong>Saint</strong> <strong>Xavier</strong> announced<br />

that Tony Scheler was appointed to the<br />

position of Assistant Principal for Student<br />

Life, Grades 9 and 10. This appointment<br />

as Dean of Students is effective with the<br />

<strong>2011</strong>-2012 academic year. Dr. Perry Sangalli<br />

described Scheler as “very much in touch<br />

with student needs, very approachable<br />

and communicates well with students,<br />

parents and colleagues.” He is a 1983<br />

St. X graduate and has been a faculty<br />

member in our science department since<br />

1988. He holds a master’s degree from the<br />

University of Louisville and has completed<br />

additional graduate studies to earn Rank I<br />

and Professional Certifications or licenses<br />

to teach secondary biology and chemistry.<br />

Scheler has served as assistant wrestling<br />

coach and as a coach/moderator for the<br />

academic teams. Currently, he assists<br />

with both the intramural program and the<br />

Student Activities Council.<br />
