The Gift of Education
Alice Easley
Memorial
Scholarship
Alice Easley impacted countless lives as
a math professor during her 30-year
career at UAA. Although she passed
away in 1999, Alice is still having an impact
on the lives of students today through a
scholarship created in her honor by her five
children and close friends.
“As a single parent with five children herself,
she deeply understood the importance
of education in rising above difficult
circumstances,” said son Max Easley, UAF ‘91.
Setting up a scholarship in Alice’s memory
was the natural thing for the family to
do, and it honored their mother’s passion
for education. To Alice, education was a
transformative process that affected whole
families, not just individuals.
“We wanted to highlight our mother’s
important work with non-traditional students
at UAA, especially those with dependent
children,” said daughter Alexis Easley, UAF
’85 and ‘87. “She was well-loved by all of the
students she encountered but especially
those who needed special encouragement in
order to succeed.”
Alexis said many students blossomed under
Alice’s care, and now, with this scholarship,
her legacy as a gifted teacher continues.
“She would be very proud. And so are we,”
Alexis said. “Our mother was one of those
amazing individuals who not only knew how
to educate students but how to inspire them
as well.”
