LETTER FROM THE FIRST VP/AWARDS CHAIR
Welcome to the 2020 Rocky Mountain Southwest Virtual
Emmy Gala.
WHAT HAS 2020 BEEN LIKE SO FAR? To quote a song from
the movie “Doctor Dolittle”…I’ve never seen anything like it in my
life! Welcome to the 2020 Rocky Mountain Southwest Virtual
Emmy Gala.
The reaction to the COVID pandemic affected our Awards process
in several ways. The region’s broadcasters were working from
home or not working at all. They were covering COVID-related
news in addition to everything else that’s happened this year.
They couldn’t access their past stories that they wanted to
submit. In short…dogs and cats living together…mass hysteria!
To accommodate our members’ disrupted schedules, the Awards
Committee recommended to the Board of Governors to extend
the entry deadline two separate times. The deadline was pushed
back more than two months. In addition, we waived all late fees
on your entries.
It shows the measure of this region’s broadcasters that with
everything going on, you were still able to submit 863 entries.
In addition, there were fewer issues with the entries (judges’
challenges and the like). You all did great work!
Also, as of September 1st, 233 of you judged entries from other
regions this year. Thank you for your invaluable assistance to
the awards process. I’m sure you found the experience rewarding and
educational. For the rest of you, we can always use more judges.
I’d like to thank the hard-working Awards Committee: Vice Chair, Donna
Rossi, National Awards Chair Bob Adlhoch, Jennifer Jones, Micah Johnson,
Danielle Lerner, Mike Headrick and Carol Lynde. A special thanks to ex officio
member Genaro Delgadillo, who provided essential assistance during the
confirmation process.
Of course, the Awards Committee (and most other committees) could not
function without our tireless Executive Director, Lara Gates. I can’t think of
any more great things to say about her.
The Awards Committee is available to all broadcasters in this region. We will
respond to all inquiries and questions and will guide everyone who needs
assistance through the process.
Enjoy the virtual Gala. Although we all won’t be together in the same room
to honor the nominees and celebrate the recipients, your accomplishments
mean the same: Excellence.
