CELLULAR BLINDSCell-ebrating blindsLouvolite has anumber of cellularfabric options forcustomers tochoose fromFor the majority of the blind industry, theacceptance of honeycombe, or cellular fabricsover and above the more widely usedpleated fabric has been a lower process thanperhaps expected. This may have partly been dueto the much wider variety of pleated fabric optionsavailable to the blind maker or with some of theperceived additional challenges faced whenmanufacturing blinds to satisfy full conservatoryinstallations including roof systems. Either way,there is no doubting that the industry is nowrecognising the features that cellular products bringto the consumer and the wider choices availablereflect this.The Louvolite cellular fabric options include atranslucent fabric, Halo, and a blackout, Luna. Thesetwo fabrics come in either 25mm or 38mm cellsand are offered at an enormous 3m width forthose increasingly wide windows and doors.One of the most obvious benefits of a pleatedfabric is the fact that the inner cords actually passthrough the centre of the “cell” and as they are noton the surface of the fabric, they are not visible.This also has a significant secondary benefit from achild safety perspective as the cords are notaccessible.The Louvolite Cellular programme also offersthe ability for consumers to combine the elementsof both blackout and light filtering fabrics in what issometimes known as a “day night blind”. Thisoption combines both fabrics with a floatingintermediate rail. Each of the fabric types are fittedto either fixed rail and the consumer can select thefull window area to be covered by either thetranslucent fabric or the opaque fabric. As theintermediate rail is raised or lowered it collectsone of the fabric types and deploys the other,simple yet very effective.A much lauded benefit of the cellular blind isthat they help in reducing heat loss during thewinter months. As the “cell” design captures apocket of air this design also helps reduce theamount of warm air escaping though a windowduring the winter months . Whilst this is true of allfabric types the double layer of fabric along withthe cellular design does have additional benefitsover a traditional pleated shade. In addition thesame pocket of air reduces solar heat gain in thesummer months.It is sometimes best to save the best until lastand perhaps the best thing about Louvolite cellularfabrics is how well they pair with the LouvolitePerfect Fit progamme. The Perfect Fit product isrecognised as the neatest and simplest installationmethod available when used with modern doubleglazinginstallations. Work conducted to establishheat loss reduction when using window shadesalso established that the Perfect Fit framing systemreduced heat loss still further when compared toproducts used without Perfect Fit.When you combine the two elements ofLouvolite cellular fabric with Perfect Fit you reallydo achieve a 1 +1 = 3 situation with each productseamlessly combining to create a unique andbeautiful window decoration that is both functionaland at the cutting edge of design.52 Blinds & Shutters • ISSUE FOUR 2020
