Helen trained as an apprentice in a professional company led by Phoenix Dance founders. They taught
her the importance of technique, creative and performance skills but also skills to be an artist, leadership,
teamwork, teaching etc. Helen went on to dance with companies like RJC Dance company, Les Commandos
Percu and Neshima Dance as well as project work with other companies. She is extremely passionate about
helping to develop emerging artists. Helen is now the Youth Dance Hub champion with Bristol Dance
Futures where she is part of a team that moves dance for children and young people forwards in the city.

Bryn trained at London Contemporary Dance School, winning the Charlotte Kirkpatrick scholarship
for exceptional potential. He then joined VERVE, the postgraduate performance company that toured
internationally. He has completed an MA in dance performance, entitled: “The Complicit Virtuoso-
Analysing the relationship between virtuosity and neoliberal ideology, and the implications of this for
the contemporary dance artist” through the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in partnership
with the University of Kent. Bryn has performed with Julia Thorneycroft dance, Humannah productions,
aboutNOWish, Bitter Suite, Luca Silvistrini’s Protein, Lisa May Thomas and Myrtle Theatre Company and
has choreographed for Tessa Bide, Myrtle Theatre Company, and Vic Llewellyn & Kid Carpet.

Contemporary
Julia is one of Bristol’s leading dance practitioners, known chiefly as Artistic Director of both her own
company Julia Thorneycroft Dance and Kinesis Youth Dance Company. She trained at the Laban Centre
and Middlesex University and received an MA in Creative Producing from UWE.
As a choreographer her work includes Ladies of the Landfill (2017), a commission for Spindrift; Immersion,
a VR project with Zubr and Watershed, shown at Watershed and Edge Arts, Bath; Hive (2015) performed as
part of Bristol Green Capital, Endeavour; Northcott, Exeter/emerge festival, London/Devizes International
street art festival/Falmouth University/Trinity Bristol; Frustra (2014), Resolutions! ThePlace/ Bites:remix,
Albany, Deptford/Dartington/Practice, ICIA/Northcott, Exeter/Bristol Harbourside: New Work, Surface and
Identity all for the Harbourside Festival, Bristol.
