meet the team...deepraj singh.Improvisation & Composition,Ensemble DanceDeepraj Singh first started dancing in afterschool capoeira sessions at the age of 8. From there his interestin movement and musicality began to grow. He joined Bristol based youth dance company Kinesis andcontinued his movement exploration at Cotham School where dance was taught as part of the curriculum.He continued his training via the CAT (Centre of Advanced Training) programme run in Swindon, and dida year on the urban strand and two years on the contemporary strand before successfully auditioning forLondon Contemporary Dance School. Deepraj was awarded the Duke of York scholarship whilst trainingat London Contemporary Dance School and graduated with a first in July 2015. After graduating he isworking as a freelance dancer and has toured professional pieces internationally such as the Akademi’s‘The Troth’. Deepraj draws upon his urban dance techniques when creating pieces, which are rhythmicallyexplorative and emotionally driven. He is an explorative urban improviser with a keen sense of rhythm andbeatboxing/vocal percussion skills.Issie has trained in a variety of street dance styles such as Locking, Hip Hop Socials, House, Funk, Poppingand Dancehall. Issie has spent a lot of time travelling the world to enhance her skills, foundations andknowledge in these styles and the Afro-Brazilian art form ‘Capoeira’ which she has also trained in for 11years. Issie spent focused training time in LA, Las Vegas, Ethiopia and Brazil. She also participated in avariety intense CPD courses with Tony GoGo, Scoo B Doo, Poppin Pete, Ken Swift and Mr Wiggles. Issieperformed at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics in London. This experience broadened herhorizons and created further networks and dance opportunities throughout the UK. Helen trained as an apprentice in a professional company led by Phoenix Dance founders. They taughther the importance of technique, creative and performance skills but also skills to be an artist, leadership,teamwork, teaching etc. Helen went on to dance with companies like RJC Dance company, Les CommandosPercu and Neshima Dance as well as project work with other companies. She is extremely passionate abouthelping to develop emerging artists. Helen is now the Youth Dance Hub champion with Bristol DanceFutures where she is part of a team that moves dance for children and young people forwards in the city.helen wilson.Contemporary & Carnival (Soca)Bryn trained at London Contemporary Dance School, winning the Charlotte Kirkpatrick scholarshipfor exceptional potential. He then joined VERVE, the postgraduate performance company that touredinternationally. He has completed an MA in dance performance, entitled: “The Complicit Virtuoso-Analysing the relationship between virtuosity and neoliberal ideology, and the implications of this forthe contemporary dance artist” through the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in partnershipwith the University of Kent. Bryn has performed with Julia Thorneycroft dance, Humannah productions,aboutNOWish, Bitter Suite, Luca Silvistrini’s Protein, Lisa May Thomas and Myrtle Theatre Company andhas choreographed for Tessa Bide, Myrtle Theatre Company, and Vic Llewellyn & Kid Carpet.bryn thomas.ContemporaryJulia is one of Bristol’s leading dance practitioners, known chiefly as Artistic Director of both her owncompany Julia Thorneycroft Dance and Kinesis Youth Dance Company. She trained at the Laban Centreand Middlesex University and received an MA in Creative Producing from UWE.As a choreographer her work includes Ladies of the Landfill (2017), a commission for Spindrift; Immersion,a VR project with Zubr and Watershed, shown at Watershed and Edge Arts, Bath; Hive (2015) performed aspart of Bristol Green Capital, Endeavour; Northcott, Exeter/emerge festival, London/Devizes Internationalstreet art festival/Falmouth University/Trinity Bristol; Frustra (2014), Resolutions!
