WALKING IN WALESBetws-y-Coed is as close to chocolate box twee as Snowdonia gets. The self-proclaimedgateway to the region really is a lovely little village, perched on the banks of the AfonConwy and the Afon Llugwy and hemmed in on all sides by the picturesque GwydirForest. It’s a great base for hill walking, even though you can’t actually access any of the majorpeaks straight from its bustling streets. It’s also an excellent centre for easier walks, as this shortramble into the forest proves nicely.1With the telephone box and Londis store to your left andthe church to your right, walk up the steep road away fromthe A5 and continue around to the right to a junctionwith a forest track on the left.
