Blood Drive
The Indiana Blood Center will be on site on August 19 from 8:30 AM till
1:30 PM in the Gym accepting whole blood and Double red cell

The Choir Is Ready to Start Singing Again!
After a summer break, the adult choir will resume rehearsals on Wednesday,
August 29. All parishioners are welcome to join the choir; no audition is required. The
choir sings at the 9:00 a.m. Sunday mass, and rehearses every Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.
in the church. Come to meet new people, learn new skills, be part of the leadership of

Family Mass and Social for Separated and
Divorced Catholics
Reverend Dustin Boehm, Associate Pastor of St. Monica, will offer a
Mass of Special Intention for individuals and families whose lives have
been impacted by separation or divorce on Friday, August 31 at St.
Monica at 8:00 PM. Divorce Ministry Leadership will host a social
immediately following the Mass in the St. Augustine Room. For additional information

The Great Adventure Bible Study
Come hear about The Great Adventure Bible Study on Monday, August 27 at 7:00 PM in
the St. Augustine Room. This fabulous DVD led Bible Study taught by Scripture scholar
Jeff Cavins will awaken the Bible for you with authentic Catholic teaching on the 14
narrative books of the Bible from Genesis to Matthew. It connects all the dots so our
Salvation history makes sense. This introductory meeting will allow the group to hear
some of the material; discuss preferred day and time to meet; and explain the style/
format. This study takes 24 weeks to complete, spaced around any holidays. We would
like to begin early in September. Sessions will be weekly. The cost is about $45/set. It
is our goal to start one evening group, and one daytime group based on the preferences of
the participants. This study is a wonderful way to celebrate The Year of Faith announced

The Kenya Carnival 2012 is just around
the corner! Saint Monica LifeTeen will be
sponsoring Adult High Striker game this

An Encounter with Óscar
Romero: Inspiration and
Challenge for the 21st
Century
On Saturday, September 15 from
9:45 AM to 4 PM St. Monica will host a
workshop based on the 2012 documentary
film “Monseñor, The Last Journey of
Óscar Romero.” The film, a timely
portrait of a prophetic voice for justice,
includes rare recordings and film from
Romero's own collection and interviews
from those whose lives he changed. In
addition to a screening of the film the day
will include presentations by Notre Dame
experts on the struggle for justice in South
and Central America and the opportunity
for conversation with them. This
program is ideal for adults of all ages as
well as college/high school students.
Registration fee includes lunch. Adult
registration is $25; discount fee of $20
each for two or more adults registering
together. Fee for students is $10 courtesy
of a matching grant from St. Monica
Knights of Columbus. Registration
deadline is September 5, 2012. Register

Annual Walk, Run, Roll-Friday September 28
Last year our students raised over $20,000! Funds were used for
professional development of staff and classroom enhancements.
Our only Fall fundraiser will continue to support staff and
students . We need corporate sponsors! We hope that you will
consider supporting our school. We are asking for a minimum $300
donation as a corporate sponsor. In return, your company's name/
logo will be added to the back of the walkathon t-shirt. This t-shirt will be worn monthly
by staff and students on "Teamwork Tuesdays" and in the community on field trips. If
you would like to ensure that your company's name/logo are added to the t-shirt, info

What Are You Waiting For?
Have you not signed up for the Bowling League yet? Time is running out! A social, non
-competitive league, in its 19th consecutive year, is looking to fill a few spots open for
this upcoming season. We bowl every other Sunday evening at 7 pm, starting
September 9, at Woodland Bowl. Start time is 6:30 p.m. Both adult couples and singles
are welcome, 2 men and 2 women to a team. Great way to meet parishioners if you are
new to the parish or have decided it's time to get involved. Sign-up will be in the narthex

commitment. There is a spot in the league with your name on it, so you better claim it this
week! It’s the 2 hour break every two weeks that you have been looking for. Fun is the

RCIA / OCIC News
Calling all baptized! Every baptized person has a role in making new Catholics. Look
around you; in the persons you know or encounter, who might appreciate your invitation
to faith? How can you make God known, loved and served in ways that are inviting and
encouraging for others who lack faith? RCIA weekly sessions begin August 30: OCIC
sessions begin September 20. We encourage you to invite potential inquirers – better yet,
to accompany them – to RCIA or OCIC. We also need faithful Catholics to share their
faith as sponsors in the RCIA process – or to serve as Shepherds, Catechists, Ministers of
Hospitality, Easter Vigil & Prayer Partner Coordinators; we currently need persons eager
to serve in all of these roles. Because we charge no fees for RCIA, it helps to have
donations of supplies – we especially could use pens and new 1” white binders. Please

RCIA Ministries: There are many dimensions to the RCIA process – and we need a
whole Team of persons willing to support those who come to us seeking faith; our Team
is constantly renewed by new faces! These are the roles we most need filled this year…
Sponsor; Catechist, for primary school children; Catechist, for high school youth; Easter
Vigil Coordinator; Prayer Partner Coordinator; Babysitter; Ministers of Hospitality, to
help with greeting, room set-up, and help for catechists in the early part of the evening. If
you can help with any of these – or recommend someone else – please contact Anne

Evenings for Parents: Two very special evenings are planned for parents of young
children: Saturday, September 8 & November 10, from 5:30 pm-8:00 pm in St. Augustine
Room. These two training evenings are designed to help parents who wish to establish a
way of prayer with their children in their homes – based on the insights and materials of
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. Trainer Dan Teller will join us from Cincinnati to
make these presentations about establishing a prayer corner and praying/sharing faith at
the dinner table. Follow-up evenings for parents who wish to make materials together
will also be available. Babysitting will be provided both evenings – so enjoy a night out
as you consider ways to grow faith in your home!

You are invited to participate in an intensive
education program at St. Monica for people who
want to learn how to interact with the world in light
of their Catholic faith. Contact Al Mytty at

Why Participate? To gain a better understanding of the Christian call to compassion and
to integrate personal spirituality and compassion to meet the needs of a broken world.
Meetings are one night each week (day of the week is TBD) between October 2012–May
2013. Space is limited to the first 15 people. Other groups may meet during the day and
on different evenings if there is sufficient interest.

Sister Parish Reflection:
Megan Vladoiu
I can't even begin to express or explain
our trip to Honduras. I expected to feel
like I was helping people, but I was
amazed by how much everyone there
helped me. The love and joy that they had
was incredible. At the meetings before the
trip, when return travelers said people felt
like family, I thought they were crazy. I
thought there was no way that you could
spend a week with people and have them
feel like family. Well, I guess I'm crazy,
too! I can't imagine never going back, nor
do I want to. I don't think words can do
justice to the experience; you have to be
there yourself.
St. Monica Multi Class Reunion
A multi class grade school reunion is planned for Saturday, September 8 at 6:30 pm at

Social Justice University
What does the safety net look like? On
Wednesday, August 22 at 7:00 pm in the
St. Augustine Room, the Social
Justice Ministry will be sponsoring a
guest speaker from the St Vincent De
Paul Society to educate us about their
programs available to serve the poor and
vulnerable of Indianapolis. There are
quite a few services they offer that many
of us probably don't know about (free
legal services for instance). You and/or
friends or family or neighbors or
acquaintances may have needs that
could be met by St Vincent De
Paul. Please join us, whether from the
English or Hispanic communities (we
will have translators there). Peace!

Helping The Lord’s Pantry
The Lord's Pantry depends on the nonperishable
foods we bring in each week
and put in the blue food bin in the
Narthex. The Pantry services around
100 clients each week, every Tuesday
morning from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at
the Witherspoon Presbyterian Church,
5136 N. Michigan Road.

Reflexión en la Parroquia Hermana: Megan Vladoiu
Ni siquiera puedo comenzar a expresar o explicar nuestro viaje a Honduras. Yo esperaba
sentirme que ayudaba a las personas, pero me sorprendí de lo mucho que todos me
ayudaron a mi. El amor y el gozo que tenían eran increíble. En la reunión antes del viaje,
cuando las personas que ya habían ido a Honduras nos compartían que la gente la sentían
como familia, yo pensaba que estaban locos. Yo pensaba que no había manera de pasar
una semana con la gente y sentirlos como familia. Bueno, creo que yo también estoy loca.
No me puedo imaginar el no volver, ni quiero. No creo que las palabras sean justas para
expresar la experiencia; tienes que estar ahí.

¡Llamado a todos los bautizados! Cada persona bautizada tiene el deber de hacer nuevos
Católicos. Mire alrededor suyo; en las personas que conoce o encuentre, ¿hay alguien

San Agustín. Estas dos noches de entrenamiento están diseñadas para ayudar a los padres
que le gustaría establecer una manera de orar con sus hijos en sus casas – basado en el
material e ideas de El Catecismo del Buen Pastor. El Entrenador Dan Teller nos
acompañara desde Cincinnati para hacer estas presentaciones de como establecer un
rincón de oración y orando/compartiendo juntos en la mesa. También se proveerán
noches para los padres que gusten reunirse para hacer los materiales. Se proveerá cuidado
de niños en las dos noches – así que disfrute de una noche afuera mientras considera

Automatic Withdrawal
Parishioners can now tithe using automatic withdrawal. Find
the form on our website www.stmonicaindy.org under the
“about us” tab and click on “Auto-withdrawal Giving”. Fill it
out and return it to the Parish Office with a voided check. Call
the Business Manager at 253-2193, ext. 2 with questions.
Parish Pastoral Council (PPC)
The Parish Pastoral Council is a consultative body of
parishioners who assist the Pastor in guiding the parish. Any
person eighteen years of age or older and who is a registered
parishioner, or is the spouse of a registered member, is eligible
to serve on the Parish Pastoral Council. Parish elections are held
each year in April for all at-large positions. The PPC meets the
second Wednesday of the month. All parishioners are welcome
to attend! The next meeting is September 12 from 7:00 PM
to 9:00 PM in the School Library. Agendas and meeting
minutes can be found on our parish website at
