President’s Message
Michael Gordon
Shalom,
October has been a busy month at Temple Adas Shalom. It was a joyful
experience to see so many participants in our High Holy Days services.
Kudos to the magnificent preparation and execution of our Religious
Practices team and their many helpers. The Chinese Auction is nearing
it’s drawing. Thanks to the many who have participated. Religious
school is off to a Zoom based start, and we will continue to look for ways
to relieve our students of Zoom fatigue. Stay tuned for announcements
from Adult Education. Our Safe Building Opening team continues to
monitor the pandemic looking at the latest medical and scientific
information.
Unfortunately, it is still too early to project when our Temple will open
its doors. We urge everyone to continue to follow the guidelines
recommended by the CDC and the state of Maryland for the health of
yourselves, your family, and your friends. Finally, be sure to vote.
L’shalom,
Mike Gordon
Board President

Religious Practices Message
Melissa Immel & Mark Wolkow
Greetings from the Religious Practices Committee
We hope this message finds you well and these uncertain times haven't
been too stressful for you and your family. During the pandemic, Temple
Adas Shalom offers a variety of religious services and social gatherings via
ZOOM. Please consider logging in to a Friday or Saturday service and
experience the warmth and joy of our online community.
Shabbat Evening Services offer a great way to start your weekend, with
most services beginning at 7 pm. We're also testing a new start time of 6
pm once a month in November and December. Shabbat Mornings consist
of either a 'Taking Hold of Torah' discussion or 'Mindfulness and
Meditation'; both begin at 9:30 am. Check out our calendar for the latest
information, and start times.
On behalf of the Religious Practices Committee, we wish you and your
loved one's good health, happiness, and safety.
L'shanah Tovah,
Melissa Immel and Mark Wolkow

Kehillah MAGNET Message
Joel Yoffee
Hello Temple Adas Shalom Community,
We hope everyone is continuing to stay safe at home!
We hear at Kehillah MAGNET realize virtual learning during these COVID times
can sometimes be a real challenge. As the race to find a cure for COVID progresses,
please be assured we will continue to evaluate and plan a safe reopening for all
parents, students, and teachers. Also, we want to thank all the teachers, parents,
and students for your continued learning engagement. Our virtual learning
programs for all grade levels would not be a success without all of you! Please keep
up the great work!
Kehillah MAGNET still has student availability at all grade levels! If you have a
child or know of a family with children interested in learning more about their
Jewish heritage, Kehillah MAGNET might be the learning environment for them.
We would love the opportunity to discuss our Jewish educational programs with
all those interested. Please contact our Principal, Jenn Bober, at
principal@templeadasshalom.org, for additional information.
As always, parents answering your questions and concerns about Temple Adas
Shalom's Kehillah MAGNET Religious School Program is very important to us, and
we would love the opportunity to talk directly with you. You always have a voice!
Many Thanks,
Joel Yoffee
Kehillah MAGNET Religious School Committee Chair

We made significant progress at our first virtual membership meeting on October
3rd. I know Zooming is not our favorite way to meet, but we had many laughs and
planned out four events, using breakout rooms by interest. Dates have been
changing, so PLEASE keep your eyes on the calendar and electronic updates.
Thanks to the team who planned our out or day!
We just experienced our first In-Person event with our families and pets, safely
distanced and outside, at Mariner Point Park. All had great fun. Thanks, Paula
Mullis and Jessica Hurst.
Coming Up: Saturday, November 14th @ 7:00 pm is our “Paid-Up Member Virtual
Bingo” event. Those who have paid dues or plan to pay at the event are welcomed
to join! See the enclosed flyer for details.
Sunday, December 13th, is our Sisterhood Hanukkah Party. We will be virtual to
stay on the safe side, but what surprising fun this year will bring. Please Fill out our
Survey on the link above to join so that you can celebrate with us!

Who Is: Denise Gordon?
Art and I joined Temple Adas Shalom in July 1981. Soon after that, I joined the TAS
Sisterhood and have enjoyed every minute of it. As an officer, it has been my
pleasure to serve for almost all those years in such capacities as Corresponding
Secretary, Vice President, President, and Treasurer. My philosophy is, “you get out
of it what you put into it.”

Adult Education Message
Stephen Marksamer
As promised, two new offerings from your congregation adult education
department. Here they are:
HEBREW IN A JIFFY!
Are you tired of following along in transliteration? Are you wondering why an "i"
sounds like an "e" and an "e" like an "i"? You can't figure out all those strange
symbols, many of which look the same. All the dots and dashes above and below
the letters driving you crazy? Then sign up for Linda and Mark's Hebrew in a
Jiffy course. We'll have you reading words in no time and following along with
reading, singing, and even chanting from the Torah. We'll do it all in 8 weeks, and
we'll have lots of fun in the process.
Prerequisite: Reading English.
Leaders Linda Needel & Mark Wolkow Date & Time: TBD
BOOK DISCUSSION
The education committee is pleased to announce our new initiative, a quarterly
book discussion. The Committee will choose the books from a wide range of genres
and worthy of a robust conversation. We will announce the book well in advance
to give you time to read and reflect. Our first selection, "The Book of Lost Names" by
Kristen Harmel, is historical fiction inspired by real events. Rabbi Franken will lead
the discussion.
Leaders: Terri Broemm & Rabbi Franken
Date: TBD Time: Shabbat morning in January 2021
If you would like to register for either, please send an email
to adulted@templeadasshalom.org with the offering you would like to participate
in and your preferred contact information.
Remember, these are both free to all members of our congregation! We look
forward to you joining us.
There are other educational, stimulating offerings as well. Check out our web page
for the latest https://harfordjewishcenter.org/jewisheducation/adult-education.
If you are interested in participating and developing new classes or have ideas
moving towards greater congregational involvement, please don't hesitate to
contact your Adult Ed committee at adulted@templeadasshalom.org.
I am looking forward to hearing from you. Stay healthy and stay safe.
Sincerely,
Stephen Marksamer
