YOUTH FOR EUROPE PROGRAMME BENEFICIARY DEUTSCHES JUGENDROTKREUZ - LANDESVERBAND NORDRHEIN _ 74 _ GERMANY Description The regional office of the German Red Cross Youth is organising a summer activity in Bad Münstereifel (D) in cooperation with its partner organisations. The project gathers 45 youngsters from 6 countries for a fortnight: 10 from Germany and 7 from each other country (GR, E, SK, LT, RUS). The project is entitled „Status Quo - Fashion, Music, Sports and more ?!'' and is prepared by an international team of 7 youth leaders with different experiences in international and intercultural youth work. The participants from the different countries are chosen according to the following criteria: first intercultural exchange - the disadvantaged have priority. During the stay the youngsters will have many different opportunities to express themselves and to learn from each other in creative ways. The experience gained during the project will encourage the participants to do further European work. The exchange concerning youth realities and a reflection of the mechanisms of ''commercial'' youth manipulation are the thematic guidelines of the project which will lead the group step by step into the process of intercultural learning. The culture of the hosting country will be focused upon. The programme prepared by the team offers a variety of activities such as creative workshops, discussion groups, visits within the region and interesting people joining the exchange. Description ''Young People on their way to a united, democratic Europe'' is the theme of this multilateral youth exchange activity, that gathers 26 young people from five countries (D, I, PL, LV, LT) to Vilnius (LT). The activity is the second leg of the five planned exchanges between the partners. The aim of the exchange cooperation is to transmit to the young people a picture of Europe which does not end at the borders of the Union. The particular aim of this activity is to get acquainted with the situation of the young Lithuanian people and to understand that the Baltic States are not a fringe region of Europe but that they are geographically located in Central Europe. The participants will have an opportunity to meet with local youth, decision-makers and media. The applicant is an association working in particular with the Eastern German Länder and the countries from Central Europe with the aim of promoting a united Europe. Description The applicant is a local organiation created to support culturally, ecologically and socially interesting initiatives. This programme first plans to bring a group of young people (8E, 8D, 8BG, 8LT) to Lychen (D) where they will get acquainted with each other and where they will prepare themselves for a stay in Berlin (D). The main objective is to foster cross-cultural understanding through music. The organisers hope to show the youngsters that there are not only differences between them but that they can understand each other through music. All participants have some experience with musical performances. During the programme a concert will be rehearsed and presented to the public at the end. Also, a video will be made. The organisers hope to create a strong enough contact between the participants that they will, on their own initiative, continue to meet after the programme is over. JUGEND KULTUR WERKSTATT Description The applicant is an independent German association that works with multicultural youth groups in Frankfurt ( D ) and which organises exchanges and programmes for the constructive use of young peoples' leisure time. Also, they run a sculpture workshop for delinquent youths. The program is a youth exchange that brings socio-economically disadvantaged youths ( 8D, 8LT, 8EE, 8I ) together in Frankfurt am Main ( D ) where they will take part in an artistically inspired programme that aims to create cross-border contacts, enhance artistic expression and create the desire to learn foreign languages. Description The organiser is a German non-governmental organisation with international scope. They are active in youth exchanges between Germany and Turkey; they organise public discussion events with themes focusing on society and politics; and they organise expert programmes and publish a youth magazine. The programme initially brings participants ( 5D, 5GR, 5TR, 5BH, 5BG ) to Königswinter (D) for three days where discussions will be held on ''The Balkan countries and their integration in Europe'' and on the ethnic minorities in the Balkan region. Then, participants will go to Bonn (D) where visits of national government institutions and discussions with politicians are scheduled. Finally, the project will move on to Brussels (B) where many international associations will be visited and more discussions with authorities are planned. The activity will take place in Gahlen (D) and is organised by a local church-based organisation. The project follows on from earlier bilateral cooperation which the partners are keen to widen to include the Baltic States.
