FinanceSt. Paul’s is blessed with substantial financialresources and many generous parishioners butfaces many challenges going forward.The church’s primary endowment is currentlyvalued at $4.3 million. St. Paul’s also has aseparate endowment dedicated to musicprograms and currently valued at $627,000.It was evident from the parish survey resultsthat many parishioners were generallyunaware of our financial challenges and lackedan understanding about how St. Paul’s financesare generated and managed. As a result, aseries of Zoom financial education sessionswas held for the parish. Nearly twothirdsof the total amount pledged in 2020was pledged by 20% of all pledging units.In the future St. Paul’s will need to increasemembership, pledges, and other sources ofincome to maintain current ministries andprograms.Our dream is to align the budget with ourhighest ethical and spiritual values.40
Our new rector will play an active part inthe budgeting process. He or she will beinstrumental in working with our lay leadersto set the parish’s priorities. We seek someonewho will help us identify new ways to use ourfinancial resources to live out our Christianmission here in Philadelphia and in the worldwhile ensuring sustainability for the future.41
