COAST GUARD MERITORIOUS PUBLIC SERVICE<br />
PRESENTED TO MR. BARRETT THOMAS BEARD<br />
On Coast Guard Day, August 4, 2020, Coast Guard<br />
Commandant ADM Karl L. Schultz, presented the<br />
Meritorious Public Service Award to Mr. Barrett Thomas<br />
Beard for exceptional, enduring contributions to the<br />
legacy of the Coast Guard and Coast Guard Aviation.<br />
<strong>The</strong> citation notes that Beard was “an advocate and<br />
early architect for a Coast Guard History Foundation to<br />
assimilate, organize, and preserve service records and<br />
documents.” <strong>The</strong> award also noted his collaboration<br />
with numerous historians and organizations such as<br />
the U.S. Lighthouse Society, the U.S. Lifesaving Service<br />
Heritage Association and the Coast Guard Aviation<br />
Association. <strong>The</strong> citation praised the historian for<br />
making known the accomplishments of Frank Erickson<br />
and other aviation pioneers through his writing.<br />
