The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the Columbia<br />
Basin-Boundary Region in 2020, yet limited data to quantify<br />
this impact is available at this time. Some preliminary 2020<br />
data, where available, is included in the Snapshot Report to<br />
start showing the pandemic’s impact. When the 2020 annual<br />
data becomes available, a deeper understanding of the pandemic’s<br />
impact will be known. In the meantime, the 2020<br />
Snapshot Report delivers a summary of conditions leading up<br />
to the pandemic. This provides a useful baseline to compare<br />
future data. As an example, in 2019, there were 594 business<br />
incorporations and three business bankruptcies within the<br />
Kootenay Development Region. Comparing this data to the<br />
2020 data, when it is available next year, will show how the<br />
pandemic impacted the business climate within the Region.<br />
