Education Innovation

Dear Parents, Students, and Community Members,

Welcome to Indiana Math and Science Academy North. At the end of my

third year at IMSA North, I am happy to report that we had a great 2018-

2019 school year with a great staff. Our STEM-focused curriculum has

provided our students with various real-world engagement opportunities

to prepare them for tomorrow. There will be even more in the upcoming

school year with the addition of PLTW Cybersecurity into our offerings.

I am really excited about our collaboratively developed vision of excellent

instruction and vision of culture and learning. I am looking forward to that vision inspiring us to

grow as a community.

Thank you for being in tune to my weekly Principal announcements every Sunday at 6pm. If

you are not receiving a phone call or an email from the school every Sunday at 6pm, it is time to

update your contact information with the school.

Thank you for trusting us. Please call or text me at (317) 455-5583 if you have any questions.

In 2018-2019 school year, our Elementary VEX

IQ robotics team made to the World Finals.

Our Middle school VEX IQ team qualified

for the state finals. Our High School FTC

Robotics team competed well and received

motivate award for excellent interview skills.

ROBOTICS

We started our journey competing with local

competition in Indianapolis. Our Elementary Robotics

Team first advanced to the State Championship

and successfully achieved a chance to to go to the

World Championship. The students Brian, Peter,

and Kourtney were so happy to be on the team.

The journey ended in Louisville, Kentucky, at VEX

IQ World Championship, April 28-30. We enjoyed

the game and activities immensely and met new

people all around the world (800 teams from 60

nations). Our rank was incredibly good but not

enough to win a trophy. Overall, it was a wealth of

experience for the team and their coach Mr. Turan.

On March 31st, 2019, my second Robotics team

Knight Bots attended RoboCON at Chicago

Math and Science Academy. We received

three trophies: 1st place in Sumobot, 2nd

place in Weight Hauling, and 3rd place in Line

Following. Congratulations to team students

Luis and Ayobami and their coach Mr. Turan.

Our middle school robotics team participated in

the Vex IQ tournament on Feb 19th. Our team

got the 1st place and won Teamwork Challenge

Award and the Robot Skills Award. We qualified

for the State Finals. Congratulations to our team

STARBASE

Every year, all of our 5th-grade students spend

5 full days at DoD STARBASE to learn the

science curriculum through hands-on activities.

STARBASE Indiana is a premier educational

program, sponsored by the Department of

Defense. At STARBASE Indiana students

participate in challenging “hands-on, minds-on”

activities in science, technology, engineering,

and math (STEM). Students interact with

STEM professionals to explore careers and

observe STEM applications in the real world.

Selected students at IMSA were invited to

participate in the Leadership Communication

Institute in partnership with Butler University. The

purpose of the institute is for the future leaders of

tomorrow to learn about effective communication

and its real world applications. Upper-level Butler

University students provided activities and

practical experience as a part of their Leadership

and Communication course. IMSA students

learned about the following topics: the nature

of communication; diversity of perspectives;

responding to change, conflict, and negotiation.
