If you’re going to win a race, you need more than
talent. The ability to know when to swerve and
when to brake is only as good as the machine that
brings you to the finish line. Precise engineering
and economical design are critical components of a
winning race car, and the key ingredients of a winning
timepiece. TAG Heuer and Porsche have a long
history together, their first collaboration dating back
to 1963 when Jack Heuer made the Heuer Carrera
chronograph in honor of the successful Porsche 911
Carrera developed by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche.
TAG Heuer and Porsche collaborations run
deeper than cosmetic branding on a watch or a
sponsor name across the race car livery. They cocreated
a TAG-Porsche engine that brought three
consecutive F1 world titles to McLaren from 1984
to 1986. In 2019, they partnered on a new Formula
E team to contribute to the world of single-seater
electric car races. There are numerous other
motorsport collaborations with Porsche and TAG
Heuer as prominent contributors and collaborators.
The two companies work together off the
racetrack as well. They are both deeply involved
in supporting golf and tennis by sponsoring
competitions and developing applications. Porsche
is hosting a Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart for some
of the most talented women in the game, and TAG
Heuer is the official timekeeper for the event.
ANEWLEGACY
On the watch front, TAG Heuer and Porsche have
teamed up again to present the TAG Heuer Carrera
Porsche Chronograph. The timepiece has its roots in the
Carrera Sport Chronograph, known for the tachymeter
scale engraved on the bezel. The watch is rich with
Porsche iconography, from the colorway of red, black
and gray, to the speedometer-like dial and subdials.
The watch is unexpectedly serene for the displayed
complications. The dial is a dark gray and is subtly
textured to resemble the asphalt of a racing track. The
three-hand timekeeping features rhodium-plated
hands, highly legible numerals, black gold-plated
applied indexes and a date window at six o’clock. White
Super-LumiNova coats the hour hand, minute hand
and the indexes for low-light conditions.
The three subdials mimic the look of Porsche
gauges: black with contrasting white markers and redtipped
rhodium-plated hands. The hints of red liven
up the mostly neutral palette, and draw the eye to the
Porsche logo on the polished black of the ceramic fixed
tachymeter-scale bezel.
The sapphire crystal is domed and double-coated
with anti-reflective treatment to continue the theme of
clear and clean design. Chronograph pushers in steel
and gray flank the steel crown, which sports an eyecatching
line in red.

The case is 44mm polished steel that is finely
brushed, and the screw-down design delivers 100
meters of water resistance. The Caliber Heuer 02
automatic movement with its 80-hour power reserve is
visible behind the caseback crystal, like a peek under the
hood. There is a choice of a black calf leather strap with
hand-stitching that recalls the Porsche seat design, or a
sleek H-shaped bracelet in steel.
TAG Heuer delivers a balanced aesthetic to this
chronograph, rising to the challenge of delivering
crucial information to a driver at a glance as he or she
speeds around the track. From the handsome luxury
of the watch to the bespoke packaging, TAG Heuer
and Porsche have demonstrated again the power of
strong collaboration.
