Religious Practices Message
Melissa Immel & Mark Wolkow
How many of us thought that last year's virtual Seder would be virtual
again this year? Probably not many of us... but that's the way things are
shaping up, at least for the vast majority. So once again, we will celebrate
virtually this year. Please note that our "community seder at home" will
be observed on the first night of Pesach rather than the second night, as
the first night falls on a Saturday evening this year... March 27th.
Additionally, we will celebrate Shabbat with virtual services at 7 pm
each Friday night in March, featuring music by Mike Mullis on the 5th
and 26th, Linda Needel on the 12th, and David Jaffe on the 19th.
We will continue to monitor the State and Federal guidelines in our
planning for re-opening; however, we have no firm dates for re-entering
the building for religious services. In the meantime, we encourage you to
bookmark the Temple Home Page and/or the Temple Calendar to keep
up with the latest events and Zoom links.
Shalom, and we hope to see you on Friday nights for Shabbat Live on
Zoom!
B’Shalom,
Mark Wolkow & Melissa Immel

Kehillah MAGNET Message
Joel Yoffee
Hello Temple Adas Shalom Community,
We hope everyone is continuing to stay safe at home! Due to current COVID viral
levels, safe virtual learning will continue into 2021 and for the foreseeable future.
Our virtual learning programs for all grade levels would not be a success without all
of you! Please continue to keep up the great work!
Kehillah MAGNET needs a new Religious school Principal for the next school
year, 2021/2022. Interested persons should contact me, Joel Yoffee,
at joelyoffee@gmail.com for additional information.
Job Qualifications Include:
- Commitment to lifelong Jewish education for adults and youth.
- Dynamic leadership skills to inspire participation from a diverse constituency of congregants and
families with a variety of goals and priorities.
- Strong teaching skills.
- Knowledge of Hebrew language, Jewish life and culture, and Reform Judaism.
- Ability to hire, inspire, support and evaluate teachers.
- Strong communication skills and sensitivity to organizational context, to work effectively with
the Rabbi, Temple Administration, and lay leadership.
- Administrative experience desirable.
- Salary is negotiable
Kehillah MAGNET still has student availability at all grade levels! If you have a
child or know of a family with children interested in learning more about their
Jewish heritage, Kehillah MAGNET might be the learning environment for them.
We would love the opportunity to discuss our Jewish educational programs with
all those interested. Please contact our Principal, Jenn Bober, at
principal@templeadasshalom.org, for additional information.
As always, parents answering your questions and concerns about Temple Adas
Shalom's Kehillah MAGNET Religious School Program is very important to us, and
we would love the opportunity to talk directly with you. You always have a voice!
Many Thanks,
Joel Yoffee

Nashon
By Janet Ruth Falon
Sisterhood & Gift Shop News
Pat Wolkow
Someone has to be the first one to test the waters:
Even if you can’t swim, or can’t imagine floating, to dip a big toe in the ocean;
Even if the opposite shore is invisible, far beyond imagination, to extend yourself;
Even if the sea is icy, with floes, the muck, to take the first step;
Even without a life preserver, or inflatable raft, or water wings, to risk total immersion;
Even if everyone else says no, and holds back in terror;
to plunge in, trusting you’ll survive the depths.
Chag Sameach from TAS Sisterhood! You know the NASHON like members of our
Congregation. You know they’re among you, that a few more exist. Maybe it is you!!
This month, we pull together a slate of women who will not “take the first step” but will
join the Sisterhood leadership team to help us continue to honor our Mission. Notify
Elise Woods of the “Nashons” you feel can help us imagine, extend, plunge, and survive!
Our General Membership met in February and helped the Board Liaisons plan out
activities and events for our sisterhood. Look here in the monthly newsletter, the TAS
Calendar, and weekly bulletins for updates. Keep yourself informed!
COMING UP:
April – Outdoor Event near the end of the month – Elections too!
May 8th - Sisterhood Virtual Shabbat Morning Service & Installation
June – Year-End Event
Our Passover inventory has been put up on the TAS Sisterhood Gift Shop Facebook
page. To view the photos, go to our Facebook at
https://www.facebook.com/TASSisterhoodGiftShop
Click PHOTOS, then > ALBUMS. We divided photos of our inventory into these album
categories. Once you click on an individual image in that album, you will see the Stock
Number, item name, and price.
If you need or want something we don’t have posted, and you notify us early... we can
likely get it for you at a reasonable price. Contact Pat or Denise through the FB page,
the Temple FB page, FB messenger, by email at giftshop@templeadasshalom.org, text
message, or by phone to either place an order or meet us at the shop!
Sisterhood sends condolences to our Sisterhood members and their familys’ in
mourning:
Hindy Kempler, Sarah O’Donnell, Pam Gwaltney, and Marcia Buchness

Adult Education News
Stephen Marksamer
Last month I submitted a non-standard article, relying on interpretation and a
bit of thought to get the points across. I’ll be more direct this month.
There are 2 current classes finishing up their series over the next couple of
weeks: Hebrew in a Jiffy & Wicked Women of the Bible. Having attended both
I can honestly say they are enjoyable experiences where I know I have learned a
lot and I believe each person attending is glad they did. If you missed out this
time around, let me know you would like to get your chance at the zoom
window! Please send an email to aduted@templeadasshalom.org.
As Pete Townsend noted: “Hullo, Tommy, there’s more at the door”.
Coming in March, Adult Education is starting a monthly “Lunch & Learn”
series. All sessions will begin on zoom at 12 noon (find the zoom link on our
website and calendar). Usually between an hour to 90 minutes, they will cover
a gambit of topics, different each month. Starting us off, on Tuesday, March 2,
Rabbi John Franken will discuss current events grabbed from the headlines of
our newspapers, with an increased understanding aided by Jewish
interpretation and impact.
Our “April Book Discussion” will be held on zoom on April 17. Get ready by
reading our selection this quarter: The Last Interview by Eshkol Nevo. This
compelling novel is a layered portrayal of friendship, family, and identity.
Reserve now at our Harford Public Library through their online website. Please
use the “contact us” area there to make a material request so we get enough
copies for everyone.
The Adult Ed committee is also discussing an adult B'nai Mitzvah class taught
by Rabbi Franken. Please send emails to aduted@templeadasshalom.org if you are
interested! And a Trope class for those who want greater davening ability in our
Torah recitation and prayers.
And not finally because there will be so much more, But I am now collecting
ideas for a film series reviewing and discussing Jewish life and times. If you
want to add a film title to this series, please send an email to
aduted@templeadasshalom.org.
Thank you all for your great comments and support. Keep them coming!
Where you ask? please send an email to aduted@templeadasshalom.org.
Sincerely,
Stephen Marksamer
