dating back as early as 1909. Camp is 

often thought of as trees, trails, pools, 

and programs; but it’s more than that. 

It’s an intangible spirit and attitude

The YMCA of Greater Rochester is

your child daily! Camp is one of the unique experiences in a child’s life which 

provides them the opportunity to make memories and build friendships that 

will last a lifetime! 

At Camp Eastside we are dedicated to creating an atmosphere where children 

can thrive. Sure we have wonderful facilities; such as our outdoor & indoor 

rock walls, our fantastic archery range and our top of the line indoor aquatics 

center, but it is our Counselors that make us special! Our highly trained staff 

team spends countless hours preparing and planning for camp; not because 

they have to but because it is their passion, it’s what they love to do. Our 

campers use words such as fun, goofy, great, and caring to describe them 

and that barely scratches the surface of what they bring to a child’s summer 

experience.

summer experience! We know that no two children’s needs are alike; at Camp 

Eastside we offer a variety of different Camps to meet all of your camping 

needs. Your child can enjoy Traditional Day Camp, All Star Sports Camp, 

Specialty Sports Camps, Preschool Camp, and Aquatic Adventure Club. Our 

goal is to help each camper make friends, try new things, and enjoy their

Every day is an adventure for your camper and our staff is 

prepared to lead the way! We pride ourselves on the fact that 

our counselors are exceptional role models; each day they model 

the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility to 

our campers, parents and each other. Our staff is passionate 

about camp; they love camp and enjoy making each campers 

experience full of exciting and fun memories! 

Our staff goes through an interactive training program 

that focuses on safety procedures, communication, camper 

management, games & activities as well as other tricks of the 

trade that all come together to give your camper the best camp 

counselor! Rest assured each member of our camp staff team 

has completed a criminal background check as well as three 

additional reference checks.

Meet the Camp Director 

Jennifer Houle 

This is my 5th summer at 

Camp Eastside and I am really 

looking forward to the fun it 

will bring! When I am not out 

at camp I assist in teaching our 

Youth Sports programs as well 

as co-lead our Teen Leaders 

group. 

As the summer approaches 

it is amazing to look back on the past few years and see how 

much we have grown; with the expansion of our camp property 

and growth of our camp programs, yet our enthusiasm and 

the traditions of camp have remained the same. I love to see 

our campers come back each summer with the excitement of 

enjoying some of their favorite activities and traditions; such 

as Jar Wars, Archery, Samsquatch, and Gaga! 

I have the pleasure of spending my days at camp ensuring 

each of your campers is safe, having fun and new experiences, 

and making friends. With the fantastic team of counselors 

we have I feel confident your camper will enjoy their summer 

experience and love camp as much as I do!

I currently teach Social 

Studies at Palmyra Macedon 

High School and I am pursuing 

my Masters Degree in Inclusive 

Education for Grades 7-12. 

While most educators look 

forward to the summer to 

relax; I look forward to it as the start of the Camp season. I 

believe Camp should be a truly inclusive atmosphere where 

children of all interests and abilities feel they are a part of 

and help to create a welcoming community. 

I also feel passionately about working with teens and 

helping them develop into leaders not just at Camp Eastside 

but in every aspect of their life. With the LIT/CIT program I try 

to utilize a constructivist approach to developing leadership 

skills and important qualities found among our finest 

counselors. This means teen’s work together to discover and 

build on concepts like taking initiative, inclusion and decision 

making. 

I look forward to another great summer at Camp 

Eastside!

SCHOOL AGE 

TRADITIONAL CAMP 

Entering grades 1-7 

Sessions 1-10: June 25-August 31

Our day camp provides campers a traditional camp experience. 

They will get to enjoy all that Camp Eastside has to offer while 

we focus on making friends, teamwork and of course fun! Our 

structured camp day ensures that campers will get a chance 

to try new things as well as enjoy all of their camp favorites 

too. Our small camper to counselor ratios allows our staff to 

know each of their campers and plan age appropriate, fun, 

exciting and challenging activities each day. Your camper will 

certainly be busy enjoying all that we do at Camp Eastside!

AGE GROuPS 

SALAMANDERS: Entering grades 1, 2 

The Salamanders always have a busy day ahead of them! Your 

child will be active; playing field games, shooting at the archery 

range and scaling our outdoor rock wall. Salamanders will 

play group games that make them laugh and shout. Campers 

will also create arts and crafts which they can showcase at 

home on the refrigerator door. But most importantly your 

child will be meeting new friends which will last until they are 

Dragons and beyond. 

LIzARDS: Entering grades 3, 4 

Your Lizard will have a day camp experience rooted in 

tradition; including climbing our outdoor rock wall, shooting 

bulls eyes at the archery range, and swimming. The Lizards 

will also experience some different activities that focus on 

team building and developing the YMCA core values of caring, 

honesty, respect, and responsibility. Lizards will also be able 

to participate in our Camp Eastside overnights. By the end 

of the week your camper will have many fun memories and 

new friends!

DRAGONS: Entering grades 5, 6, 7 

Campers in our Dragons group will enjoy all that Camp Eastside 

has to offer while also expressing their independence. Tweens 

will swim; participate in arts and crafts, outdoor activities as 

well as team building and cooperative games. After lunch, 

the Dragons group has an elective time period. Each camper 

can choose which option they would like to participate in for 

the afternoon. Each day brings new possibilities including; 

climbing wall, archery, sports, crafts, and drama. Through 

this well balanced day we create a summer your camper will 

never forget! 

LEADERS IN TRAINING (LIT) PROGRAM: 

Entering grades 8, 9 

The LIT Program is designed for mature, enthusiastic teens 

looking to become role models to younger campers. LITs 

will work closely with a coordinator while learning first aid, 

child development and leadership-by-example. LITs play 

an important role as they help to create an inclusive and 

memorable camp experience for our campers. 

The LIT program is 5 weeks long. You can register for weeks 

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and/or weeks 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. You MUST attend 

at least four of the five weeks. The LIT program runs from 

9:00-4:30. The extended day is used for journal reflections 

and is a necessary part of the program.

COuNSELORS IN TRAINING (CIT) PROGRAM: 

Entering grades 10, 11 

The CIT Program is designed for teens who want to take 

advantage of a unique opportunity for true leadership. CITs 

will work closely with a coordinator and gradually learn 

responsibilities similar to those of our counselors. This 

would include planning daily activities, collaborating with 

coworkers, developing behavioral management tools, public 

speaking, and first aid training. At the conclusion of the 

program, CITs will have the opportunity to refine these skills 

as they co-lead a group of campers with the assistance of 

their counselor or coordinator. 

The CIT program is a ten week long program. You MUST attend 

at least eight of the ten weeks. The CIT program runs from 

9:00-4:30 each day. The extended day is used for journal 

reflections and is a necessary part of the program.

All teens interested in the LIT or CIT program must 

complete and submit an application form; all applications 

must be received by March 30. Once reviewed qualifying 

teens will be contacted about an interview with the LIT/CIT 

coordinator to determine if the program is the right fit. At the 

conclusion of the interview process all Teens will be notified 

by June 1 to let them know if they are accepted into the LIT/ 

CIT program. Applications can be found at the Welcome Desk 

or on our website.

ALL STAR SPORTS CAMP: Entering grades 1-7 

Our sports camp will give your child an opportunity to 

experience four different sports in four days and choose 

their favorite sport each Friday. Each day gives your camper 

a chance to learn the basic skills and fundamentals of the 

sport as well as experience game play. (Sports are subject 

to change.) 

Please note that on Thursday, July 26 we will be taking a 

field trip to The Red Wings Baseball Game. On Friday, August 

17, all YMCA Sports Camps are coming to the Eastside Family 

Y for our First Annual Sports Camp Olympics. Campers will 

choose two out of the four sport options that week to 

compete against campers from other YMCAs. 

Camp will run Monday through Friday from 9:00am-4:00pm. 

Extended care is available at no extra charge in the mornings 

from 7:00-9:00am and in the afternoon from 4:00-6:00pm.

This is a one week camp focusing on Basketball; whether 

you are a beginner or an expert this camp is designed to 

bring out the best in your camper. The morning session from 

9:00-11:30am will focus in on skills and game play with our 

top notch Eastside staff. The afternoon session from 2:00- 

4:00pm will be run by the Rochester Razorsharks. From 

skills and drills to strategy, teamwork, sportsmanship, and 

game play this camp covers it all. Camp runs Monday-Friday 

9:00am-4:00pm. Extended care is available in the morning 

from 7:00-9:00am and in the afternoon from 4:00-6:00pm. 

(You must register your camper in advance for extended 

care.)

The Eastside YMCA will be offering a one week half day 

session of a Specialty Camp for rock climbing and archery. 

Whether you are a beginner or an expert this half day camp 

will focus on the basic skills and fundamentals of climbing 

and archery. Camp will run Monday through Friday from 9am 

until 12pm. Upon conclusion of camp your camper can be 

picked up at 12:00 at the North camp building; or brought to 

Sports or Day camp by staff for the remainder of the camp 

day. Extended care is available in the morning from 7:00- 

9:00am and in the afternoon from 4:00-6:00pm; you must 

register your child in advance for extended care. (Please 

note campers enrolled in this half day camp will not attend

and tumbling. This camp will be taught by an experienced 

cheerleader/tumbling coach. Camp will run Monday through 

Friday from 9am until 12pm. Upon conclusion of camp your 

camper can be picked up at 12:00; or brought to Sports or 

Day camp for the remainder of the camp day. Extended care 

is available in the morning from 7:00-9:00am and in the

AquATIC ADVENTuRE CLuB: Entering Grades 1-7 

Are you looking for something to do this summer? Jump in 

and get wet! This week long camp is set up with water on 

the brain. Children ages 6-12 will participate in swim and 

gym activities; including a 30 minute swim lesson each 

day. Aquatic Adventure Club will run Monday –Friday from 

9:00am-4:00pm. Extended Care is available from 7:00- 

9:00am and 4:30-6:00pm. (You must register your child in 

advance for extended care.) Drop off and pick up is in the 

main building.

PRESCHOOL CAMP 

Ages 3-5 Years Old 

Camp Eastside’s preschool program affords children the 

opportunity to experience camp in an organized, introductory 

setting. Children will have the opportunity to experience a 

day at camp in the comfort of a classroom setting. Campers 

can participate in our full or half day program to help ease 

the transition into a school aged setting. 

Preschool Camp offers opportunities for early social contacts 

in a supportive environment. Our daily schedule provides age 

appropriate activities in a well-balanced program. 

Half Day Program: 9am-1pm

Full Day Program: 9am-4pm 


• We maintain a 6:1 camper to staff ratio. 

• Campers will swim each day and enjoy a variety of additional 

water based activities. 

• Campers will participate in weekly themed special events.

manners and enjoy playing outdoors. 

• Our preschool camp staff is lead by a group of our 

preschool and kindergarten teachers. All staff has training 

and experience specific to preschool age children. 

• Campers must be toilet trained to attend camp programs. 

• Preschool camp will be run out of the preschool classrooms. 

Therefore, drop off and pick up will take place inside the 

Eastside YMCA. This is different from school-age camp.

AFTER CAMP SWIM LESSONS 


Sessions: 1-9

Lessons run Monday-Thursday. Register for one week 

sessions. Staff will escort children to and from the pool. 

Pickup after 5:00pm at the North Camp Building. 

Youth Beginner 

Polliwog Level: Specifically designed for children who are just 

learning how to swim. Instructors will use floatation devices, 

up to 4 tiers, to assist the swimmer with water safety and 

orientation while focusing on the front and back crawl. 

Youth Intermediate 

Guppy Level: Specifically designed for children who may still 

need assistance in the pool. Swimmers will learn how to swim 

15 yards with minimal assistance, master rhythmic breathing 

and be introduced to rotary breathing techniques. 

Youth Advanced 

Minnow Level: Specifically designed for children who can swim

CAMP OVERNIGHTS 

Day campers in our Lizards and Dragons groups can enjoy 

a night at camp! Campers will enjoy dinner, fun evening 

activities, a late night snack and breakfast in the morning. 

You must sign your child up in advance and there is a $10 fee 

per child, per overnight. Any Day camper registered for week 

1 through 10 can sign up! The overnight begins at 6:00pm 

Friday and all campers must be picked up between 8:00 and 

8:30am on Saturday. Come and enjoy a fun night at camp!!

Summer camp is like regular life,

Overnight camping provides great opportunities for campers aged 7-16 to develop as individuals 

while making friends that last a lifetime. There is no better summer experience then enjoying horseback 

riding, sailing, waterskiing, high ropes, archery, sports and creative arts than at camp. Flexible one 

week through four week sessions let you pick and choose the weeks that work best for you.

me immediately. I further understand I am responsible for the cost of all medical care. The health form is correct as far as I know, and the person described has permission to engage in all camp activities except as

sunburn sensitivity , diet requirement, long term medications, disability or limiting conditions or emotional, developmental, or behavioral challenges. I agree to notify YMCA Staff immediately, in writing, of any changes
