TO THE HOOP! 

The frantic 7 week sprint of winter sports 

regular season has wrapped up, and it will 

definitely be a memorable one. During 

the regular season alone, our staff covered 

over 100 basketball games, in addition 

to bowling, gymnastics, wrestling, swim, 

cheer, and dance. We saw officials, media, 

athletic directors, and coaches working 

6 nights a week helping to make it all 

happen. We are incredibly grateful to the 

adults that helped this season happen, and 

to the student athletes that gave their all 

at competitions, while negotiating their 

studies between home and school. While 

there were many highs this season, we 

also witnessed the heartbreak of seasons 

ending early due to COVID precautions. 

We know it wasn’t perfect, but thankful for 

what it was. A major thank you goes out to 

all of our advertisers that allow us to bring 

you this publication each month. PLEASE 

thank them and support their business. 

They need your support and we continue 

to need theirs to keep covering our area

IN JANUARY, ZOEY PERSAILS WAS UNSURE IF SHE 

WOULD EVEN BE ALLOWED TO HAVE A JUNIOR 

SEASON DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS. THANKFULLY, 

ZOEY HAS BEEN ABLE TO PLAY AND IS HAVING AN 

OUTSTANDING SEASON FOR THE FRANKENMUTH 

EAGLES. 

As a sophomore, Zoey garnered BCAM, Detroit Free Press 

and AP all state honors, which lead to high expectations 

for the 2020-2021 season. Zoey has surely met those 

expectations as she has been a starter in every game this 

season. 

Zoey is averaging 12.2 points 

per game, 6 rebounds, 2.1 

assists, and 2 steals per game. 

On offense she has been 

extremely efficient for the 

Eagles shooting 48 percent 

from the floor, 40 percent 

from three point range, and 

81 percent from the foul line. 

Zoey’s excellent play and 

leadership has helped lead the 

Eagles to a 15-1 overall record 

and a perfect 14-0 Tri-Valley 

Conference record. 

When asked about Zoey, Coach 

Joseph Jacobs had this to say, 

“Zoey has a great basketball mind, she is so smart on the 

floor. She has a quick trigger that helps her get shots off 

and is typically a focal point for most teams we play! She 

wasn’t as much on everyone's radar last year but this year 

she is on everyone's scouting report.” 

Zoey has a few college basketball offers and will decide 

sometime in the next year where she will go. For now 

Zoey will enjoy the rest of her season with the Eagles, and 

then play for the Michigan Mystics this summer.

FOUR YEAR VARSITY PLAYER HUNTER SOPER IS 

HAVING A SENIOR SEASON THAT IS TRULY ONE FOR 

THE HISTORY BOOKS AT CROSWELL-LEXINGTON HIGH 

SCHOOL. 

Soper has broken several records this year. He is now the 

all time leading scorer, the all time leader in blocks and 

rebounds. Ironically Soper’s father Steve held the record for 

rebounds prior to Hunter breaking the record. 

Soper has been a joy for fans to watch as he has a 

fantastic all around game and has the ability to soar to the 

rim for dunks. 

During the regular season, Soper 

averaged 17 points, 9.7 rebounds, 

2.2 assists, and 2.1 steals. 

Hunter has led the PIoneers to 

two Blue Water Area Conference 

Championships as well as two 

district championships. Hunter 

has helped lead the Pioneers to 

a 17-1 record with their lone loss 

coming from a 2-0 precautionary 

COVID related forfeit to Imlay 

City. 

When asked about Hunter, Coach 

Lance Campbell said, “Hunter is 

a great young man and a once in 

a lifetime player. It will be hard 

to replace him. Whoever gets him at the next level will be 

extremely lucky.” 

Hunter holds multiple offers to play college basketball. 

Soper is undecided where he will play, but plans to pursue 

a degree in Civil Engineering.
