CHANTERS

As we started the New Year, we were once again saddened by the loss of two of our long-time members

when word reached us that John Smith had passed away in early January, and a few weeks later the news

that our Director Emeritus Hal Kremser had also passed in February. Once again our hearts were filled

with sorrow and grief. With the loss of two members last year and two early this year, needless to say, we

are heartbroken and yet we are filled with the joy of having known all of these Nobles for their hard work

and contributions to Rajah Shrine and to the Chanters in particular. Well done, good and faithful servants.

Looking down the road, our President Dwayne Miller and our Unit Director Dave DeTurk are busy

trying to garner bookings for the Chanters, as the Covid restrictions ease up a bit and we can look to move

outdoors, if necessary, with concert presentations for any group, association or meeting that would like some

good entertainment and a fun time. Music Director Bruce Rohrbach is looking at adding some new music to

our repertoire, and we have been rehearsing some of our more recent musical selections in order to get ready to perform whenever

and wherever we are needed.

We did, however, start off the year in fine fashion with a mini concert of sorts, at the request of Illustrious Sir Kraig Leiby and

Lady Janet, at the Rajah Mass Installation in January. All the Chanters in attendance agreed that it was a nice feeling to get out and

perform in front of an audience and we are looking forward of doing more in 2021.

Your Chanters have been holding in-person rehearsals and meetings on a regular basis. We were informed by Bruce that we are

going to participate with other members of the Shrine Chanters International Association in a group sing-along similar to the one

produced prior to the Holidays. He anticipates at least 25 SCIA Chanters to “Zoom” in virtually to sing with their fellow Nobles for

a presentation that will be recorded and available for public viewing. The details are still being worked out, but don’t worry, you

will be informed when the presentation is ready.

Looking ahead, plans are now underway for several Chanters to attend the Imperial Session in Houston, TX, in July, when

Bruce Rohrbach will be installed President of SCIA and in September when Dave DeTurk will be installed President of the MASA-

Chanters. More details will be forth coming in future editions of the Rajah News.

Do you love music? Do you love to sing? Then, we have a place for you. Don’t hesitate any longer, PLEASE get in touch with

one of us and we’ll give you details on how you can become a member of the Rajah Chanters.
