Dennis RoyerLEBANON SHRINE CLUBAs I sit writing this, the snow is melting and spring is headed this way. This last year has been extremelydifficult but now is the time to move ahead. It has given me time to think about what we can do as Masonsand Shriners to improve our fraternity. We always talk about membership. I think we need to look atourselves and ask the question, “Why would someone want to join?” Of course, the Shriner's Hospitals,but why else?At Rajah, we can point to our finest hour in the public eye, which in my opinion is the Sportsman'sRaffle. It is a fun event and the public sees the Nobles working together and a good time is had by all. Theresult being a smooth, well-run event. People want to become a part of that effort. I can personally pointto Nobles we have gained through the Sportsman’s Raffle.On the other hand, there are events that have become stale and boring, and not much fun for anyone. Yes,I am going to say it, the Rajah Shrine Circus. And yes, the Pretzel Bowl, too. Don’t believe me? Look at the attendance and, thus,revenue going down fast. WE MUST come up with new and better ideas. The same old-same old has left us with Nobles who putforth no or minimal effort. If we are going to continue the same events we need to think differently. Plan, get things donated. Getsponsorships. Let’s maximize our attendance profits. If whatever is only making a small amount of profit, change it or dump it. Weneed to get the excitement and enthusiasm back through change. A few new ideas can make the difference. I am both hopeful andfearful of the future.This article is supposed to be about Lebanon Co. Shrine Club. Not much to report. Between Covid and bad weather, it has beentough to have meetings. All meetings are 6:30 p.m., 4th Monday, Heisey’s Diner, RT 72 North, Lebanon. Ladies invited. On a goodnote, we have been having all you can eat potpie on a regular basis. Dress is casual and everyone is welcome.It is great to be Shriner. Now let’s get back to work and have fun.Roger C. ReisLEHIGHSHRINE CLUBFellow Nobles,Hope you are all well and stayingsafe from COVID.We are having a brief weather respiteand enjoying some relatively mildertemperatures.The Lehigh Shrine Club has onlybeen able to have one Board of Directorsmeeting so far this year. No Club meetings. Hopefully we canhave another Board meeting this month (March) and then a Clubmeeting in April. We had to postpone our April 17 Ladies Nite.It will now be held in conjunction with our Christmas Party onDecember 17 at the Shepherd Hills Golf Club.Here’s an early “Save the Date” for LSC Golf on Wednesday,October 13, at Iron Lakes. Further information will beforthcoming. It is being renamed The Noble Ronald L. NeimeyerMemorial Golf Tournament. Come and play and support thememory of a great Shriner!Remember to support and attend your Clubs and Units.Without active member participation, we WILL cease to exist!As always, It’s GREAT to be a Shriner!Walter Lammenough).CARAVANERSAll right! We have had enoughisolation and distancing for alifetime. It’s time to get out andmingle.Caravaners everywhere arechomping at the bit for the arrival ofSpring. But, I guess, so is everyone.We are still frozen in. I mean thatliterally! My camper is still stuckbehind 2 feet of frozen snow.Spring is coming (but not soonThe Caravaners club will have our first venture at theOasis on the Rajah campus from April 22 to April 25. Wewill be opening the campground for the season, turning onthe water and electricity and prepping our newly acquiredtool shed. The shed is complements of Noble ReverendDavid Newhart, who recently moved to Elizabethtown, andno longer needed a shed. THANKS, Noble David!There are camping spaces available for anyone whowould like to join us. The offer is open for the entire season.Motorhomes, trailers and tents are all welcome. Our schedulethis year includes trips to Lancaster in August and WatkinsGlen, NY, in September. These two venues have alreadybeen booked, but there may be a vacancy or two. Give itsome consideration.20
Bob Merkt,PresidentAhhh, spring – a time for new beginnings, plans and projects. The next couple of months will be filledwith meetings, dinners and events. But before we get into that, I would like to thank all Nobles and theirLadies, including our Potentate Kraig Leiby and his Lady Janet, who attended our Memorial Breakfastat Blue Mountain Restaurant on February 20th. There were thirty-six in attendance who enjoyed a goodhearty breakfast and fellowship with one another. Our Memorial Service commemorated ten Nobles fromour club who had passed on in the last year.Please consider joining us at any of the following: April 27th at 6 p.m. Interclub Night at JA Buffet inHamburg (casual dress) RSVP to Glenn Sattizahn by April 25th; on May 25th, 6 p.m. for Past PresidentsNight at Friedensburg Country Restaurant (sport coat & tie); June 29th at 6 PM for Ladies Night Picnicat the Rajah Complexpicnic grove. Don’tforget to bring yourFez to all events.Getting back to spring projects, myfavorite that I anxiously look forward toevery spring is working in my vegetablegardens. I start planning by looking throughcatalogs for new seed varieties and newideas. Then I start to prepare the soil forplanting, which can be labor intensive but soworthwhile when those seeds start growinginto productive plants.My suggestion is that we treat our ShrineClubs in the same way. Seek out newprospective members. Look for new ideas.Prepare and make the Shrine fertile groundfor planting those new “seeds.” And mostimportantly, nurture them along the wayinto becoming productive members.ORIENTAL BANDThe pickings are really slim for this issue. The Band was only able to meet once since installation.Hopefully, with the newly distributed vaccines, things will return to close to normal. Keep your fingerscrossed!At our solo meeting we were fortunate enough to have the Illustrious Sir Kraig Leiby and our recorderLes Werley in attendance. The Illustrious Sir brought us up to speed with the goings on at Rajah Shrine.One good thing is that the MASA Convention is going to happen in Virginia Beach this year. Forms areat the complex. We were reminded to get our reservations in early as we don’t know if there will be anyrestrictions. One thing for sure - we will have hospitality!Other dates to remember are April 21stfor stated meeting of Rajah Shrine and theJohn Grumbein Pote’s Ball on May 1st. Another first willbe a “Sock Hop” on May 15th. The NobleRiders and Car Club are putting this together,so ladies, put on your poodle skirt and saddle shoes and guys, makesure you have your hair slicked back and a pack of Camels rolled up inyour t-shirt. This sounds like it will be a fun time to doo-wop the nightaway. Notices will be sent out for all of these events.As I said in the beginning, there wasn’t much to say for this article.The one thing we know for sure is that the children in our hospitalsneed our support.
