Garden Scheme
The National Garden Scheme, initially set up in 1927 to
raise money for district nursing, offers visitors access to
over 3,500 private gardens in the UK. The scheme scaled
down somewhat in 2020, but is back with a bang this year.
Funds are raised via donations in gardens and from sales
of plants and refreshments, notable beneficiaries of the
fund raising are MacMillan, Marie Curie and Hospice UK.
Two gardens to visit locally are based at Derian House
Children’s Hospice on Sunday 9th May and Sunday 8th
August, and also Wigan and Leigh Hospice on Sunday
25th July. Other gardens to visit include private gardens
in Mawdesley, Rufford and Burscough. For further details
on the National Garden Scheme visit www.ngs.org.uk
