Jackson Streetis dedicated to ending youth homelessness locallyand as part of an important national movement.We are leading local efforts to ensure that youthhomelessness is prevented whenever possible,and that unaccompanied youth who do experiencehomelessness are on a quick path to safe, stable,and permanent housing.Our continuum of Outreach, Shelter,and Next Steps leads all youth tosafety, stability, and well-being.We know that certain groups of young people aremore likely to experience homelessness and believewe need targeted strategies to speed progresstoward ending youth homelessness in our region.*OutreachAges10 –24• Street & SchoolOutreach• Drop-In Centers• Basic Needs• Support Groups• Mentoring• Mental Health• Case Management• Disproportionality of homelessnessamong Black youth mirrors racial disparitiesdocumented in school suspensions,incarceration, and foster care placement.• Hispanic youth are at higher risk ofexperiencing homelessness than non-Hispanicyouth and are especially hidden.• Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT)youth are 120% more likely to experiencehomelessness compared to youth who identifiedas heterosexual and cisgender. Heightened riskof homelessness among LGBT youth often stemsfrom a lack of acceptance both in and outside oftheir homes.5
